The arrow shaft is made of 4-inch steel pipe. The feathers are made of quarter-inch rods. The arrow point itself is made of angle iron and heavy sheet metal. Charles says it takes two people two days to make one. It is 20 feet tall and makes for a pretty neat selfie. The caption at the foot of this arrow reads, "Comanches & other tribes followed Old Trails Ridge that became mail route, railroad, Route 66 & I-40. Arrow sculptor, Charles A. Smith". He's been installing them since 2004 and according to one article quoting the artist, "This project is the largest public art project in the United States. We cover 50,000 square miles in the 52 counties in the top of Texas. I'm really enjoying it. I've met so many great people. It's great to be a part of something that will be here for ages to come." Located on the west side of Amarillo, Pondaseta's black brick building is sharp and modern for an older city like the Yellow City. Inside, there are two large spaces. One is where they brew all of their beers and it also functions as a space for music and guests. The main space is their taproom, where the back wall features a row of taps with all of their in house beers. There was a duo playing music in the other room, and there was a few other groups there. We played a very competitive game of Go Fish and really enjoyed the space there. For my first beer, I ordered the Mind The Gap, which was a bitter in an English pub style. I love a malty beer and it reminded me of some of my favorites. My girlfriend got a Pecan Porter that she really liked. It was dark and roasty. My next beer was their Tea Pilsner, which I never knew was a style of beer. This one was infused with hibiscus tea and I thought it was good. My girlfriend got their cherry lime seltzer.
