After 2 years this experience still haunts me and if this can save even one future mama from what I went through.... Horrible horrible horrible experience with the doula who I paid extra for because of her experience not only as a hypnobirthing doula but also as a midwife and LC, named Sharon. I went to their open house and it was a very warm experience. I thought it was an informative experience as well but now I realize I wasted hours of my time there. Why? Because they just yes yes yes-ed me on everything. This one payment covers the entire time I am in labor? "YES". What if it takes hours or days? "Yes it's still covered" No matter how long?!? "Yes no matter how long" Can they advocate for me if the doctor does something I didn't want? "Yes absolutely" So they will confront the doctor? "Yes" Will the doula take pictures and videos of the birth? "Yes" My doula will come to me to labor at home and then we go together to the hospital? "Yes" Every single question I had I was told yes by both amazing births and the doula I ended up hiring. Of course, that was just so I end up working with them. They will tell you everything you want to hear. In reality that is not the case. My doula came to my home to labor with me in the beginning stages. I ended up in the tub alone and I'm not sure where she was but she was sleeping. At a certain point I tried to get out of the tub myself and after failing over and over I had to keep calling my doula until she woke up and came to help. When it was time to go to the hospital suddenly my doula said she has to go home to take care of a few things but will meet me there. Ok. Wish she would have informed of that earlier because I was told by her AND amazing births that she will come with me to the hospital. So she went home, fed her cats, took a nap etc. Too much time had passed and she never arrived to the hospital - I was already checked in at this point and had gone for a long walk to help progress labor (kept asking my doula what I can do to help progress my labor, should I walk because my friends doula told her to do that, but Sharon kept insisting that there is nothing I can do. Yet the second I got to the hospital the nurse told me to walk walk walk their hallways to progress the labor.) I called my friend to ask what moves I can do on the birthing ball to help and got yelled at that why am I paying for a doula and where is my doula that's her job to help me with this stuff. That's when I realized my doula has been missing for a very long time and I called her. I MID LABOR HAD TO CALL HER. She said she will be right over. Then some time passed. ALOT OF TIME. Still a no show. No phone call or follow up text either. So I had to call her again and she said the police had locked down the street and she can't get out and was still home. A health care professional in an emergency can't get out?! Really?! Only after we inquired for the backup doula was she suddenly able to sneak out. My doula did nothing to help me with my labor pains. She just sat in her chair while I tried to do breathing techniques on my own. She didn't do a single hypnobirthing technique nor did she massage me. It was a horrible experience. I had to deal with each contraction on my own and in the end couldn't handle it anymore and had to get epidural and pitocin. I also looked to her for advice on the epidural and pitocin but she just kept insisting she didn't know. She also said that if a certain Dr was the delivery driver then she had no power and it would be his way. Funny though because during the interview I told her I was looking for someone specifically to work with this doctor and she said she has it handled and in the past had even had to take him out of the room and argue with him. Ah more lies she told. So this women who didn't touch me didn't massage me and completely neglected me during labor when it came time to push guess who was right there holding my leg?!!! I was so taken aback!! No one asked her to do that. In fact we specifically had asked her to take pictures and videos during the birth. And I was stuck pushing the entire time thinking look at her standing there proudly like she earned that spot when she didn't do a single thing. Thank gd my husband realized and asked one of the hospital staff to take videos. Of course we missed out on some of it. And when the baby was born guess what Sharon did then? Snapped a picture of us on HER OWN PHONE WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION!!! Who does such a thing! I had to ask her to delete it. There's more but Yelp only allows a certain length. We were so let down by the entire experience we did not bother with the follow up. Which was a shame as my baby did need the help of an LC and ended up on formula. Choose wisely. Choose someone who you know personally worked with a doula. Don't hire blindly regardless of how great they sound on paper or in the interview. Sometimes you are better off with a good friend or family member. read more

Amazing Births and Beyond is another great business for moms and moms-to-be. I was first referred here when I was looking for a doula. They host monthly "Meet the Doula" events to highlight the benefits of having a doula and offer speed dating with all the doulas that are available. My husband was skeptical of what a doula did but was quickly onboard after hearing from the owner, Dr. Vivian Keesler, and we hired one shortly after. Kelly Ryder was our doula and she was amazing! My birth was 100 times better because of her. Besides doulas, Amazing Births and Beyond also has prenatal yoga classes, chiropractic services, massage, a very unique baby spa, a wide variety of educational classes, and parenting-focused support groups. I haven't had the chance to take advantage of all their services, but did choose to do hypnobirthing classes here. Their hypnobirthing series takes place at three different locations that you can choose from but we did the one at their main location which was on Sundays. It consists of five consecutive classes for 2.5 hours each which is definitely a lot but by the end, we left feeling very well versed in the birth experience and prepared to take it on! Amazing Births & Beyond is a unique biz for the area and I'm thankful to have had it as a part of my pregnancy journey. Would definitely recommend to anyone. read more

As usual, I always feel amazing when I leave Amazing Births and Beyond. I called them at 10am asking to get a massage for some pretty bad back pain (currently in my 2nd trimester) and luckily I was able to get an appt right away. My masseuse was Kyra. Now.. I've had prenatal massages before but this one was by far the best that I've ever had. From the moment that Kyra laid her hands on my back, it was Instant relief. My mid back, low back, SI joints felt so much better after those 60 minutes. I couldn't have been happier! read more

This place is AMAZING (lives up to its name) I'm a pregnant mama and had been experiencing a lot of pain in my hips and back, I've been seeing Dr. Keeler for weekly adjustments the last few months now, and the pain in my hips is gone and the discomfort in my back has made great improvement (I have scoliosis so I'm not sure I'll ever be completely pain free there) but she has 100% improved the pain I came to her for. Do not use this place to book classes!!! They are a mess. They will get your pregnant hormones raging when they ghost you. The first class I booked was prenatal yoga through the Mind & Body app... I drove almost an hour to make it just to see that the place was closed and that the class was moved to zoom. No notification was offered. While I was there I met another pregnant girl who had the same issue. The 2nd issue I had was when I rushed out of work at 38 weeks pregnant to drive an hour out to make it to the breastfeeding class but to find the location was closed and the class canceled. The reason they said was supposedly bc I was the only person that had registered. Being the only person that registered they didn't have the kindness to at least call and let me know they cancelled. They said an email was sent... however.... The day before the only email I found was one confirming the class and not one cancelling it. These are very frustrating situations for a pregnant woman during a pandemic. I went home to my husband and cried both times. He couldn't believe they do this to their pregnant ladies. read more

I've spent a lot of time the past couple of years taking courses within the natural birth, coaching, hypnosis and massage world. Most of these are online, especially right now. By far the absolute best of these has been the HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator training with Vivian Keeler. A number of things made this course stand out above the rest. First off is Vivian. Vivian is a well educated and well spoken teacher who very graciously encourages and supports her students. There is a wealth of experience tempered with a humble and present attitude. The course is inclusive, defaults to participation over lecture, and all of us felt very well included. HypnoBirthing International has developed an extremely good power point style presentation and video library that truly walked us visually through each aspect of the class. The educator notebooks, reading, open book exams, online resources and support truly are a step above almost any online class I have taken prior to this one. So we've covered the fantastic teacher and the layout and presentation of the content, the inclusivity and inclusion of the class, and then there's the actual content. HypnoBirthing by far is the best tool kit I have found to teach couples real defined tools that they can learn, practice and grow to have the absolutely best possible chance at a natural birth, at a supported and loving birth, for a more comfortable laboring experience. Like the name suggests... AMAZING... the place is beautiful, clean, tranquil, peaceful, dr. Keeler is INCREDIBLE. As a first time mom I was TERRIFIED of giving birth, I wanted to have a vaginal birth, but I was all in for the epidural, I was clueless about the possible side effects and to how many options I actually had! Then one friend recommended this place to me and their Hypnobirth classes, Best. Decision. Ever. The price is great for what you get, after just one class I felt super empowered and I received TONS of information about my body and my baby that helped me feel a million times more confident, I went with my husband who was a bit skeptic and when he saw the videos he told me "i want that for you". Four classes later I was sooo confident that I could have my baby that when the time came, I didnt miss a beat, I used all the tips and tools that were provided to me at Amazing Births and was able to fully dilate with very little discomfort. When we got to the hospital I was already 10cm dilated and never had I once screamed or panicked. We welcomed our baby girl with the help of our doula, Iana, with NO pitocin, NO epidural and NO fear. The whole labor and birth took less than 4 hours, which is pretty awesome for a first timer, baby was born in under a minute, it was perfect and I'm sure I couldnt have done it without all the information and tools provided to us by Dr. Keeler. If you are like me and are clueless about birthing, but want to have a peaceful, easy, amazing birth, do yourself a favor and come here. You wont regret it! I'm 38 weeks pregnant and have had weekly massage here for four weeks. I highly recommend the masseuse Sharon. She is not only a gifted massage therapist but a midwife and doula. She has a healing touch and I feel even more prepared for delivery after her massage treatment. The venue is conveniently located in North Dade, and it is a very calming site. The staff are very pleasant. They also offer a range of classes that I haven't utilized yet but plan to after delivery. More than anything, I intend to continue to schedule massages with Sharon. read more

My baby has been born for months now and I've had time to reflect recently on everything. I looked into places like to offer me a natural birth. Well after thousands of dollars thru the classes and a doula I'm disappointed. The natural birth classes were good but not great I got more information reading online. The doula on the other hand Kelly Ryder was very disappointing. I rarely connected with her before the birth and during my labor which was about 3 days total she sat and talked on the couch and seemed irritated I was taking so long and even told me she possibly had to leave if I was going to be much longer because she had a class which after $1,200 is upsetting. After being rushed into a c-section she just stood there relived. Never saw her again. Yes everyone's experience is different but after $2,000 between classes the doulas, massage which was also not good ( better and cheaper at a spa) I didn't get the experience I wanted. read more

Geri Quisenberry, our doula was absolutely amazing. Words cannot begin to describe how wonderful this woman is and how blessed my husband and I felt having her at our birth. Her true calling in life is a doula. She was a wealth of knowledge and support for us in a time we so needed it. When we began looking for a doula we were only 3 weeks shy of my due date and we had our hearts set on Vivian. We knew Vivian because we were currently taking her HypnoBirthing classes. I also had heard great things from my boss who had her as their doula. Vivian unfortunately did not have the availability to take us on. So we began our search. I read the bios online on the Amazing Birth and Beyond website and Nikki, the coordinator, gave me her suggestions. Geri did stand out to me while I read her bio and I did put her on my favorites list but she wasn't my #1. For us we were looking for someone who was like Vivian extremely knowledgeable, very calming, could make us feel at ease and had to know the techniques of HypnoBirthing because that's the method we wanted to implement for our birth. We met three doulas before Geri and they were all excellent. I actually began to have really bad anxiety because I had no clue how we were going to choose between them. My husband wasn't sure who to pick either which is so unlike him because he's usually very decisive. My husband even said let's cancel the last doula meeting because it might make our decision even harder and we had already found 3 we liked. Each doula was different and had their own strengths and made us feel comfortable. When we met Geri though it was just like this aha, light bulb turning on, clouds parting moment. She made us feel so at ease and was so knowledgeable about all our questions and immediately began to give us advice on how to make our pregnancy better. In our meeting with her, time just seemed to fly by. You could tell she was a wealth of knowledge and experience, which was very important to us but at the same time you felt like you were hearing it from a friend. I wanted to tell Geri right then and there "you're it" but I stopped myself because I wasn't sure how my husband was feeling. We began saying our goodbyes and I told Geri I would be in touch. Geri than told us that we needn't worry about hurting her feelings if we didn't pick her or any other doulas feelings because they were all professional and they all understood that some people are just a better matches with others. The most important thing she explained is that we choose the best doula possible for us. That meant so much to me because really I was concerned about this at the time. Then as we began to walk away, my husband said to me "I guess we found our doula". I was so beyond happy he felt the same exact way I did about her, which if you know us, you'd know this doesn't happen often. Now to talk about the birth: Our journey was not an easy one. That affirmation you repeat, as part of Hypnobirthing "I am prepared to meet whatever turn my birthing takes" was the most applicable for my birth by far. My husband and I have said it so many times, we have no idea what we would have done without Geri. C-section was being brought up repeatedly, so many decisions needing to be made quickly due to complications and pressure due to timing. Geri was so invaluable to us as a counselor and advisor. She safely guided us every step of the way on this 29-hour journey. Always offering information, alternatives and caring non-judgmental advise. No doubt in mind I would have ended in a c-section if it weren't for her because we would have surely folded at the pressure. Even after the birth she was there for me, as I felt so utterly vulnerable during those first few days/weeks of motherhood. She was also there for me imparting advice and support as I struggled with my micro supply of breast milk and latching issues and the struggles you go through with the flood of emotions. I have already recommended Geri to another mom and she was very happy with her as well. I will always be Geri's biggest cheerleader to any other moms-to-be in search of a doula. P.S. I forgot to mention my birth was on a holiday, New Years Eve to be exact! lol read more

Well, I have had my baby and unfortunately, Vivian was not able to attend my planned home birth. She was busy at another birth. The back-up Doula that I selected through Amazing Births and Beyond was also not available for the first 30 hours of my labor as she was also at another birth. Though I am sure that this scenario does not happen often, it was upsetting and difficult not having the support I was anticipating for this critical stage of labor. For what it is worth, a third Doula (whom I had not met) was sent for part of this stage, but she and I did not click and it was uncomfortable having her there at times. Mostly she just sat there and stared at me, but acted mildly indignant when asked to help with basic tasks like keeping the birth pool warm or warming food for us, offering water, etc. There was very little effort given to birth guidance or nurturing/ support. In retrospect, I should not have been so patient in allowing her to stay. My husband observed that my labor would actually stall when she was around me. After 30 hours of labor at home, my midwife declared "failure to progress" and I transferred to the hospital where my original back-up-Doula was finally able to meet us. She was wonderful and was a godsend for helping me navigate the unexpected challenges I faced at the hospital. She was nurturing, supportive, funny, professional, patient, knowledgeable and kind. I think the chances are pretty good that if she had been able to attend my birth while I was still at home, I probably would NOT have ended up at the hospital. In the future, I will not accept an unknown Doula to show up to my birth. It would have been better having no doula than one that had a detrimental effect on my labor. Though my Doula experience did not work out as planned, I believe every birthing Mama should have the care of a Doula that they are comfortable with. These extraordinary women are experts on "what a woman needs" during her birth. read more

When I found out I was pregnant again, there was no doubt in my mind I would be using her again. I just had my second little girl a few weeks ago and she was just as wonderful as the first time. I cannot say enough about this amazing group and facility! Dr. Vivian Keeler and her amazing staff are THE experts. They are immensely knowledgeable and their kindness and compassion are unmatched. My husband and I heard of the facility and decided to visit for one of their "Meet the Doulas" event, as we were unsure what a doula's role was (nor did we have very much information about pregnancy and labor as a whole). Before leaving that night we had selected our doula Iana, who has been amazing. We did not expect to be so sure of what we wanted to do right away, but after learning of the benefits and process and meeting everyone, we knew it was the right decision for us. Since then, we have returned to the facility for their classes (hypnobirthing, breastfeeding, bringing baby home, etc.). They have made us feel so comfortable and prepared for this new chapter in our lives, and it doesn't matter what type of birth you choose as "right" for you - they are there to support and guide you every step of the way with no judgment, only love and support. As if all this wasn't enough, this group will bend over backwards to help you in any way they can and with any hurdles that may arise during your pregnancy. We personally experienced this with an issue that arose when I was 38 weeks pregnant - a very stressful time as you can imagine; however, with Dr. Vivian's help, we quickly found a solution and, what would have been days (if not weeks) of stress, was minimized to just a few hours of anxiety. I had a very long labor (from Tues Midnight to Friday 5AM) as a first-time mom. I hired Vivian as my doula. Her guidance was lacking in many ways. Maybe I was expecting more than was possible, I don't know. She joined us Wednesday late and stayed until Thursday very early. She begged off listing the personal things she had to do and told us to call her when we needed her. I had 'surges' every minute from Wed on- so full labor. In retrospect I would have called back and asked for Trudy. As it was, we didn't call her back at all. It was a wasted $900 as far as we're concerned. Of course you never know until you're there, so it's a hard thing to prejudge. I would just really make sure to expect to lead your own delivery and not to rely on anybody else. Also, the follow-up post-natal visit was super ridiculous. Vivian brought me samples of tea and nipple cream and sat on my couch for about 5 minutes. I expressed a lot of concern about my experience as a first time mom and she offered zero guidance. I ended up, several months later, in a severe state of post-partum depression. I don't blame Vivian, but she was the first person I expressed my concerns to and she basically chewed gum and nodded and left. I feel that the least she could have done was offer a reference to a support group. The hypno-birthing might be useful, but Vivian as a doula is not. read more
