For future tenants-- do not rent here!!! Beware that all the good reviews were for amazing spaces and smart shop is changing it all and removing all the perks of what we paid a premium for. Smart stop acquired amazing spaces and ruined it all. They didn't tell any of us current tenants who came in one day and all the sudden the gates wouldn't open and they wouldn't let us into our lockers without a fight. They switched hands in the acquisition overnight and didn't tell any customers that changes were happening and they just locked everything up and told you to go home when you came to get things from your locker the next day! Unbelievable. Took a full week to get the elevators working so I had to go and get all of my daily e-commerce packages up 3 flights of stairs. There should have been a transition plan to have this not affect current paying customers. This could have been avoided but shows exactly how little this company cares about its people and customers. The front office has told us they no longer accept packages on our behalf and put them in your locker- a big perk of the old amazing spaces. Being able to ship things directly to your locker- no more and without any warning!! Now my packages are getting refused and they are calling me to come get them on the weekend. It's been 4 days since they told us of this policy change and things are already in transit we can't stop! We all recognize that companies change hands but to have ZERO transition plan for this is infuriating because this is a premium storage center and we are paying for the amenities that are now gone. The staff has turned over and they were the heart of amazing spaces too. I don't think smart stop realizes or prioritized people at all. They are starting out on the WRONG foot here by treating people so poorly and then also being rude when you talk to them. They certainly don't care about the current customers they have that they have treated so poorly in this acquisition. Current customers need compensation for this level of downgraded service to keep staying here or we are gone. They have offered nothing. They gave me 30 days to accept a new contract with them or vacate. The new public rate is lower than my current rate yet they said they will not match it unless I move units and vacate my current one. After all they've put us through this is mind boggling how poorly they are behaving. Save your sanity and steer clear of Smart Shop. Don't pay a premium to be walked all over here and treated rudely. read more

While the facility is rather new and clean, they lure you in with low rent and then continually raise the rent to unbelievable rates. I started with a rent for two units at around $250/month and after two years, the rate went up to almost $600/month. They also treat everyone like a criminal. If your bill is not paid the day it is due, they will email you and then keep calling you until they get paid. I had my account on a direct debit with my bank and they constantly charged me late fees even though I had paid on time. I would avoid this establishment. They are many other storage facilities in town. read more

I have used storage units a couple times during my time in Houston and Amazing Spaces is by far the nicest of all of them. Compared to Public Storage and Extra Space Storage, Amazing Space's facilities, leasing offices, and waiting areas look like a luxury hotel. Like the others, the units are locked off by a gate. But, unlike Public Storage or Extra Space Storage, the loading area is covered, meaning that loading and unloading in the rain isn't an issue. Elevators are large and quick and units are spacious and clean. The units are also wonderfully climate controlled. The leasing office and waiting areas are immaculate and have free coffee, soda, snacks, candy and television. I ended up going with a 7.5 x 10 unit, which they refer to as a "Large Walk-in Closet." Inside, I was able to fit a three-person couch, a small dinner table, four chairs, a full-size mattress and box spring, a queen size mattress, a mini fridge, and about 25 boxes plus some change. Even still, there is extra room. The unit was more than large enough and the ceiling was very high, which meant that it was easy to stack boxes. The reason I am only giving Amazing Spaces 3 stars is primarily because of the service and pricing that I received. I was originally brought in by a "50% off for 2 months" flyer posted in the Rice University Thresher. When I arrived, there was only one leasing agent and she was helping another customer. She told me that she would be with me shortly or that another employee would be down shortly. Still, I ended up waiting a little over half an hour to be helped. Don't get me wrong, once I was able to meet with a leasing agent, the service was fantastic and he really seemed like he did everything to make sure that I was taken care of and accommodated for. That being said, the wait time was unacceptably long. Once I was helped, the rental leasing process was still quite lengthy compared to my previous experience renting other storage units. I was also unfortunately told that the offer that originally brought me in was no longer in place. Instead of "50% off for two months", I was given "20% off for 3 months". My unit's non-discounted price ended up being $202.00. So, under the "50% off for 2 months" plan, I would have saved $202.00, whereas under the "20% off for 3 months" plan, I only saved $121.20, a difference of over $80. While I am still extremely grateful for the discount, my leasing agent had to take time call in and request it from a manager. He told me that he thought it was only fair that I receive the discount, since I had come in expecting one, so he was willing to advocate for me. At the time, I was pleased that they had respected at least a portion of their original offer, but soon afterwards, my friend alerted me that this is simply a standard deal that they are offering online, which made me feel a little slighted. It's never my intention to belittle or demoralize another human being, that's not our purpose. I do however, believe we can bring a little light and joy to one another when we take the time to focus on the good hearted people we encounter and their incredible deeds. During preparation for my relocation from the Medical Center, in a panic I realized I needed more boxes. I visited a storage facility (which the name I won't disclose) wherein I was not greeted or even acknowledged. After about a 20 minute wait I realized that this business didn't deserve my hard earned money. I politely stood up and walked out, equally without notice. My next stop was Amazing Spaces. And literally my experience was night and day. The moment I parked my vehicle I could clearly notice the young lady behind the counter stand up in of my entrance. I walk inside and she's there, with a huge smile, greeting me like I was royalty. I'm a self sufficient guy but this made me feel great! Once we exchanged an introduction, Eva helped me find exactly what I needed. I only needed 4 small to mid size boxes so I felt bad that she was so engaged and my purchase was minimal. Then I realized, she didn't mind how much money I was spending so why should I? I also pondered about whether or not her behavior was the norm or if I was just the lucky one in this instance. None the less, she continued to impress me with her customer service skills so I was compelled to tell her how "great she was and that she'd made my day"! Here's where it gets good! Not minutes after my comment to Eva, two young ladies enter the store, and even though Eva was assisting me, they too were acknowledged with a warm, friendly reception. They went on to say "you made us feel so welcome - you just made our day"! It was clear to me that Eva has this affect on everyone! Right then and there I told the two young ladies about my experience and they smiled and we all exchanged a rare, heart felt moment. Several days later, I'm still moved by what happened and I wanted to share this with everyone else. The moral of the story? Don't settle. And certainly don't feel obligated to spend your hard earned money with a business that wouldn't otherwise take notice of you, doesn't offer the level of customer service you deserve or aren't honorable in their practices. As consumers we need to remember, businesses need our support as much, if not more so, than we need their product/services. Be happy. Choose happy everyone. Cheers. read more

As others have already said, this place is very nice. This is the nicest storage facility I've ever been to and if you're worried about security this would be a good place to keep your stuff. It's gated and everyone has their own code to get in so they know exactly who's coming and going. Plus you are only allowed on the floor where your unit is. The issue for me was that it was not clear to me from talking to them on the phone that everything I wanted to store would have to go up an elevator to get to the storage unit so if you're storing everything you own for a short time like I was this is a bit of a pain. My experience in picking up the truck was very easy. The lady was very friendly, prompt, and accommodating. There were coffee, some candies in the waiting area. But since it's a very hot Houston summer, she offered me water with ice. One thing though, I noticed that the truck smelled like someone smoked inside. It triggered my asthma. read more

I had such high hopes for Amazing Spaces. It is clean, the staff is awesome, the security great...and I got in on a great deal. Within three months, my fee was raised to the standard fee after the 50% off deal ran out. I fully expected this. But, within two months after that, I was sent a notice that there had been a rent change and my rent almost doubled! I called the Holcombe office about this, and they felt bad for me but it was out of their hands. When I stopped by to give my move-out notice, the lady in the office said she had contacted management and was surprised no one had called me back. She gave me Megan Gilbert's number to call, and I did call and left a message, but she never called me back. Not returning phone calls is as frustrating as rent increases. Guess I was not worth fooling with....BEWARE of frequent rate increases with this place. Luckily, a competitor was able to offer a larger space at a much lower and secure rate...but now I have to move all my stuff. What a pain this has been! read more
