We travel often and like to plan our own trips, but when trying to figure out where to begin with…read morean African safari, we knew we would need expert advice. We were drawn to Fair Trade Safaris based on their commitment to African animal conservation and to the local communities. We chose Tanzania in order to see the Great Migration in June and July. Our family of four (two teenagers) first visited Tarangire National Park, a gem with beautiful baobab trees and animals left and right. Elephants were especially prolific. Next was the Ngorongoro Crater which is an absolute necessity in any Tanzanian itinerary. The landscape was stunning and the animals were mesmerizing. The Ngorongoro Farm House was among our favorite stays with delicious food and inviting accommodations. We then visited Serengeti National Park and stayed in the Kati Kati tented camp which was so authentic and the people were so nice and engaging. The food was tasty and we enjoyed "glamping" with giraffes and zebras right outside our tents. Finally, we visited western Serengeti and saw the Great Migration. It was so moving and unbelievable, there were even some tears shed! It's exactly as you see it on National Geographic. Josephat, our fabulous guide, was several notches above other guides. He spotted animals in trees far away that we couldn't see without binoculars. He even had to show other tour guides where animals were hiding on many occasions. One day he talked with other tour guides that were searching for a group of cheetahs seen earlier in the day by other guides. He used his knowledge of their behavior and searched in a few remote spots and found the group of five cheetahs. We met other tourists at the hotel that night that asked if we ever found the cheetahs and we replied in the affirmative. They were disappointed because their tour guide never found them. The day way fairly cloudy and misty but it cleared up some late in the day. Despite some issues with the taxiway and runway lights (which were the airport's issue and clearly not something Austin Biplane could be faulted for) and a cloudy breezy weather, it was a great flight! Rob pointed out all of the landmarks as we went along and got us in a good position to see the sunset as it peaked through the clouds. Despite the weather, he did a great job keeping the flight fairly smooth. As a retired USAF member I totally appreciated that Rob served in the USAF as a pilot. It was only about 60 degrees when we took off, but Rob was absolutely correct when he said we wouldn't need jackets - the heat from the engine kept the temperature perfect - not hot and not cold - glad we listened! All in all - we had a great time and I'd recommend Austin Biplane to anyone who is looking to do something totally different for an occasion!

I had no idea what to expect from Texas wine, but I was honestly pleasantly surprised. The day started at the Austin Visitor Center where we met with our tour guide and other guests. Then we hopped on our sprinter van and headed about 40 min outside of town to start our tour at Driftwood Winery. I really enjoyed the wines and we ended up purchasing a bottle to enjoy along the tour. Next, we went to Fall Creek Vineyards. This setting was beautiful, but I didn't love the wines as much. I did love that they had plenty of snacks so you could make your own charcuterie board. Snacks are a must when drinking wine all day. Last, we ended closer to the city in the St. Elmo District at Austin Winery. The tour is about $70 and then you pay for your wines at each stop. I had a fabulous time with our tour guide and tour mates. Would reccomend this if you're looking for a day excursion in Austin.
