Just used this clinic and brought in our sick cat. He checked him out, hooked him up to an iv since he was so dehydrated. He did a thorough examination. He gave him antibiotics there and more to take home. Several injections, plus more of the antibiotic to take us some twice a day. When I saw the bill I was shocked I thought how does he make any money? All the time with our cat and our cat is his old wild self. lol The bill was only $212.00. Our usual vet charged $300.00 for pills to give our cat to calm his during the fireworks. Gave him one injection and that was it. I'll definitely be going to this Amazon in the future. 5 stars for Dr. Jones, who is an extremely patient and informative vet. He took the time to talk me through a medical issue with great care, even as I'm sure he's had that same conversation with about 10,000 pet owners over the years. He's very conscientious, knowledgable, and eager to educate pet owners with abundant information and options. (All over the phone--I haven't met him in person, as I explain below.) I'd like to explain the unusual and somewhat imperfect system they have for seeing pets, just so nothing is a surprise for future clients. It's a small clinic seeing a lot of pets, so apparently it takes a long time to get an appointment the regular way. When I called and asked to make an appointment, I got a call back on voicemail saying "we have you booked for tomorrow morning, see you then" without working together to find a time. Since my schedule is difficult, it was sheer luck that I was available that day. When I called back for instructions, I was asked to bring the cat *before 8am* at which point he was put in a cage waiting to be seen. This is how they squeeze in appointments without a multi-week wait, which makes sense; but since that system wasn't clearly explained to me, it came as a bit of a surprise. The vet was able to see the cat 3-4 hours later and we had a very helpful conversation over the phone. Then I got tied down at work and by the time I was available to pick up the cat, he'd been there 5 hours or so. When I got him home, he was desperately hungry--I learned that they don't provide food, just water and litterbox. I also learned that there was a $40 "hospitalization fee" for this method, which was not explained beforehand. (For pricing transparency, the physical exam was $95. I think that's reasonable and the vet is very good. Also re: pricing, it seems like what they charge for prescription food and medicines is comparable to online, which I appreciate. Not much markup. So that's all good.) None of this is really bad, or anything, but I would have really appreciated a bit more advance explanation of the visit system, the fees, of the need for pet owners to bring food, etc. The front desk staff seem nice, but they are somewhat less patient and informative in explaining things than the doctor. It is worth it to have a good vet. And now future clients know that if the office slots you in for one of these morning drop-offs, it will cost $40 and you should bring food. I was working as a 24/7 live in caregiver when my client's cat became very ill: though I was told by state of Oregon it was illegal for me to leave client even to buy food for us both, I was expected to take cat to vet and blamed by family and Vets at this clinic for its demise, which was caused by a tumor created by vaccines. For the record, I made less than $4/hr and was not allowed a single sick day in 8 years without threat of being fired. I did care for this cat as best I could and cried along with my Boss when it died, but for the record, I didn't kill this cat: too many vaccines in the same location did the job and a general lack of support for the client and her carers. I kept her out of a nursing home and now I'm impoverished and disabled as a result of my efforts. Next time you blame a Caregiver, maybe you should look at our Task List and noticing how much we are already expected to do and for very little money, you'll see we're already doing charity. read more

The doddery receptionist repeatedly asked me if my roommates were my parents (no) and my dog was actually theirs. (no) AND has been sending my private stuff regarding my dog to my roommate instead of me. wtf. The women that work there told me repeatedly that they "prefer working with cats" and were afraid of my dog. (he is neither aggressive, nor in any other way problematic) And to top the cake of unprofessionalism, the actual Veterinarian would not stop lecturing me about the fact that I prefer a harness to a collar, because "your dog (never referred to him by his name) can pull our technicians over." I asked if my dog pulled or caused any issues. No, he was a model dog as usual. These people are whack. I'll never go there again. read more

Our family pets have been patients of Dr Jones for years and he is always patient, thorough and knowledgeable. We trust him, and feel lucky to work with someone so kind and with such expertise. Where possible, he gives options, explaining pros and cons, including cost. Generally, the office is run well and smoothly, the techs and staff are great. Sometimes some front desk staff members can be rude or abrupt on the phone, which is unfortunate. A foul mood and being hurried along makes us think twice before calling. Happened twice. Unpleasant and needed to call back since staff member did not seem to have the few seconds to listen to our question, hung up on us as soon as possible, cutting my husband off before he had to a chance to finish the question. I searched far and wide for a good vet for our dog after having several meh experiences with another vet. Our dog had the early signs of an ear infection and we wanted to get in somewhere asap. Not only were we able to get in the next day, but everyone was so nice and comforting. The woman at the front desk was very nice and even called our old vet herself before we arrived to get our records. Dr Jones is a sweetheart and was super gentle with our shy/timid girl. He gave me treatment options before he prescribed anything, asked permission before he touched her or picked her up and didn't perform any exams or tests that weren't necessary. Dr. Jones is a wonderful, humane, and straightforward veterinarian. He does not try to force or "guilt" you into procedures you can't afford. He has cared for several of my cats, and I highly recommend him. Dr. Maki is also a kind and good vet. She has been very helpful and understanding. Avoid Dr. Heyward at all costs...at least if you have a cat. She is AFRAID of cats and has the vet tech wrap and hold them tight from the git go. She said my old mild mannered cat was, "A danger to himself and others"...like he was being evaluated for a psych ward. He was just sitting there! Her fear stresses cats out, so it's a self fulfilling situation. She should have stuck with large animals in Georgia. Unfortunately, she owns the practice. When our beloved 15 year old cat was struggling with bone cancer, I wept, saying that making the decision for euthanasia was hard. Heyward gaily LAUGHED and said, "You only have to make it once!" If I didn't like Dr. Jones so much I would not go to Amazon Park; I don't want Heyward to get any profit from me. Beware, cat people. read more

I've only had my little Sphynx cat for 9 months, but we've already made three visits to Dr. Maki at Amazon and I can't recommend her or the rest of the staff there enough. This last visit was for a bizarre cut that Sphynx got on his knee somehow. It was pretty deep, but already not bleeding by the time I noticed it and he wasn't visibly in pain or limping, so I cleaned the cut with hydrogen peroxide and it closed up and seemed fine for a day, but eventually he caused it to re-open, and then he started to limp a bit and by the third day it looked like it was starting to get infected. I called Amazon late in the day and was told they were booked through the weekend and suggested either I take him to the Urgent Care place in town or try a couple of other vets. Before I could hang up, though, the attendant put me on hold. When they picked up again they told me to just come by and drop the cat off, that Dr. Maki would squeeze him in somehow. Maybe an hour later Dr. Maki called to tell me what she'd be doing and to let me know she'd do it close to closing time, after she finished the rest of her patients. I ended up being late to get him, but the attendants waited an extra half hour for me rather than making me wait till the following day. It wasn't a life-threatening issue and is possibly something I could have waited three days to take care of, even, but the slight sense that this might be a serious problem was enough for the folks at Amazon to go out of their way, take extra time from their days, and take care of the problem. General comments: 1. Super professional and sweet counter staff any time I have called or come in. They are always patient and kind. 2. Good record keeping, including remembering important details that I might forget in a panic, like the fact that I don't want my cat given ketomene, since somewhere on the Internet it says Sphynxes sometimes have fatal reactions to it. 3. Dr. Makey and the staff handle my cat really well. He's a very docile animal, not prone to scratching or biting even when in pain or afraid, but still I get the sense that Dr. Makey is probably less hated among her patients than most vets. 4. It's been awhile since I had a pet so I'm not super clear about this, but I think the rates are pretty affordable. read more

We have been involved with Amazon Park since 1990. Clinic has changed hands many times. Dr. Jones is the current Vet. In May my pug became wobbly with low energy, not normal. They were too busy to see him. We went to Veneta to Emergency Clinic. He rallied, but the issue returned last week. I called again, they were not able to see him. I went to WilVet emergency in Springfield. He rallied and relapsed. I called Monday morning for appointment and was told they would call the next day. We received no call. Late that afternoon (yesterday) I called and was told Dr. not in and the requested report from Veneta had not arrived. This morning they called the wrong number (wife's work) and when I called back I was told Veneta had not sent files. But I had already called Wilvet and Veneta and had received emails of reports. When I called I told receptionist that I was appalled at their insensitivity regarding my pug's suffering, not to mention the family's heartbreak. She made no comment, and replied OK when I informed her that we will not return to this clinic. read more

I quit this clinic because they failed to neuter my cryptorchid dog. $120 to count his testes (1) and $780 for a failed surgery to remove the undescended one. Another vet counted his testes for free and removed the hidden one for $380. read more

We had been taking our 3 cats here for at least 8 years to see Dr. Maki and we had no complaints. However, last December one of our cats started to show signs of illness and when we called, we were told that Dr. Maki had left and was transferred to a new vet. I found it odd that we were not notified but we had no problems giving a different vet a chance. -Despite explaining that our cat had fatigue, diarrhea, would only eat small amounts of blenderized chicken, and had lost weight, the front desk kept asking what was "wrong". -When we saw the vet, she said, "Wow, he's lost 5lbs!" Finally, confirmation. "Let's do a senior screen and we'll get back to you either tomorrow or the day after." -2 DAYS PASS. I tried to call and they said the vet was out, so they would have the other vet call us back. He did not call me back. Cat is still very sick, barely able to eat or move. -2 MORE DAYS PASS. The vet finally calls AFTER HOURS (7pm) and left a message that said, "Well, the senior screen results look fine. Let me know if you have any other concerns." I tried to call back but they would not pick up. -We immediately went to another clinic. Amazon sent over the files and the new vet said, "from the chart, it's not clear what's wrong with your cat." However, they took our concerns seriously, diagnosed him as dehydrated (And severe pancreatitis), gave our cat anti-nausea medication and water, and voila, he was eating and drinking and had just a tad bit more energy. At this point we tell Amazon to transfer all our cats' (we have 3) charts to the new clinic. -I accidentally called them a couple months later for a follow up thinking they were our new clinic, and the front desk said, "Sure, IF there's anything wrong with your cat". (This was after extensively going over everything that had happened, his diagnosis, his slow recovery). That's what clued me in I was talking to the wrong people. I don't usually care about bedside manner, but the front staff are rude and dismissive. This was in contrast to the new clinic who I called immediately after and was greeted by pleasant people. -6 months later we had to take our other cat to our new vet and found out Amazon STILL hasn't sent the files. Now it will take 10-14 days because they need doctor approval and they are the only clinic in town who requires this. It was urgent. read more

Our 9 year old lab mix started having problems and out vet was no help. Our daughter suggested her vet, Dr Jones, at Amazon so we tried him. All I can say is he saved her life and continues to give her great care. She has multiple myeloma and requires several visits a year but with medication is doing well. She would have died without the proper diagnosis and treatment. Dr Jones and all the staff are caring and top notch. We moved and now drive 4 hours but it is worth it! read more

Amazon vet clinic was recommended to me by family members. I was excited to go check it out-- I thought I'd make a nail trim appointment first, to get to know the clinic a little and get a feel for the staff. However, they refused to clip my dogs nails without her becoming an established patient-- i.e., without spending a whole lot of money first (plus I'd have to have her records transferred, etc.-- all before I even meet the vet). I told them I was interested in their clinic, but they were rather snotty about being clear that the only way my dog could be seen was if she was first an established patient. I remembered she actually is due for a vaccine booster soon, and was about to say so and make that appointment, but they were so off-putting that it really dissuaded me from trying to have my dog become an established patient. read more

We moved here from PDX almost 2 years ago. My dog was older but doing great. I loved our vet, but then I got bronchitis & my adult son had to take Pete in. After that they wanted him sedated & muzzled, he was a rescue & some separation anxiety issues. Just after covid hit he got really sick, & they were no help. At all. It was during the beginning of the shutdown, but I clearly explained it was an emergency. Last Tues I was trying to find emergency appointments again & the earliest they could get me in was end of Sept. They weren't helpful with much other resources or suggestions. I called again yesterday, & that receptionist let me know his vet had left the clinic, the new clinic name, etc. I got an emergency appointment there at 3:30. What I'm angry about is why I didn't get that info a week ago? He was in pain at the end, & they could've helped me point in the right direction before that read more

I'm giving the 5 stars specifically to doctor Cameron Jones. He is a life saver. My dog had been at the Emergency Vet Clinic because he hate objects and they wouldn't do surgery on him, only treat his fever, so then he was sent home. and he stopped eating. so I took him to Dr. Jones and he sent me up to Corvallis to OSU right away before OSU closed for the night, so that my dog could get an ultrasound, and then they did surgery right away! My dog was jondus, or however you spell it. Dr. Jones played a part in saving his life. I recommend Dr. Jones to everybody. Dr. Jones is good with cats too. It seems he always knows what to do! I love the ear medicine he gives to dogs! He just puts it in the ear to treat an ear infection and then you never have to put more stuff in! It's a one-time application. I don't know what that stuff is called but it's awesome and works. Dr. Jones is just great. read more
