Our precious cat, Tiki, spent his final moments at this hospital surrounded by love from his family and the staff alike. Dr. Jenny was his usual doctor who cared for him while he was sick, but she wasn't available the day we chose to say goodbye. Dr. Pappas bore the heavy weight of putting him to sleep in our arms and, though we hadn't met her before this, she was extraordinarily sensitive of our emotions and gently explained everything before it happened. She made what felt like the worst day of our lives, a little more positive and manageable when the weight of it threatened to crush us under foot. Although I still can't think too much on this day without crying, I felt the staff involved in Tiki's care deserve all the warmest regards, hugs, and thank yous I can muster. They called us to give their condolences, kept us up to date on Tiki's cremation service, and when we picked up his ashes days later, the package and card were so lovingly put together and you could just feel a gentle human touch in every detail. It felt like the Santa Clara vet family was mourning Tiki right alongside us. We are so grateful for the care Tiki received, and we really wouldn't have had it any other way than with the team at Santa Clara. Wanted to also specifically shoutout Aubrie for her calling Tiki "Handsome Bobansome" during his visit, which has famously entered his little book of nicknames he accrued over the course of his life. We have been patrons of Santa Clara Animal Hospital for years. We have been adopting Rescues for years and this is the only place we come to when the need arises. We routinely come in to keep up on all vaccinations and checkups. The staff are excellent. They are cheerful and welcoming and also respect your privacy. The lobby is open, well lit and has room for seating with your critters while you wait. Recently my Shepherd had blown out her knee and pretty much needed it completely sewn back together. The Docs there are very professional and informative, they speak in easy to understand terms and the animals all seem to love them. Knee surgery for a young dog who wants to run and play can be difficult to manage, but with the clear advice, meds and information provided it went well. The surgery is a glorious success as she can stand again, now we just need to be patient with mobility and not let her overdo it until nature can finish the healing process. I have taken my two dogs to Santa Clara Animal Hospital for a few years now and had always really enjoyed the service I received there and was happy to recommend them to friends and family. Lately however the visits tend to fall short in terms of overall experience. Most recently I took my pet in for an emergency visit on July 10th. They were able to get him checked out and provided some medications which I was very much appreciative of. They said that he'd need dental surgery but unfortunately were booking a few months out. They suggested I add my name to their cancellation list to potentially receive an earlier appointment, which I was happy to do. I then checked out at the front desk and payed my balance. They said they would send over an estimate so that I had an idea of how much the dental surgery would cost as well. I was contacted the next day about being third on the waitlist, and that I could potentially get an appointment soon. I let them know I still hadn't received an estimate and would like to know cost before I'd be able to commit to an appointment if one were to pop up. They said no problem and that they'd get that sent over soon. The next time I was contacted was a week later on July 17th. The staff informed me that I hadn't been correctly charged at checkout at my previous visit and that I owed them an additional $147. Considering this was a staff error and that I've been a long time customer with other appointments & a surgery coming up, the entire interaction seemed in poor taste. They then sent me an email about treatment referencing an attached estimate in hopes to get an appointment scheduled. However, there was nothing attached to the email. Attention to detail seems to be lacking and in turn creates a poor customer service relationship. read more

The vet had terrible bedside manner and was impatient with our dog--who was a COVID puppy and the only humans she had been exposed to were our family members. She was not used to having people in her space with a mask on. The technician was accomodating and removed her mask so our dog could see her face but the vet was rude and impatient. We thought maybe it was a a bad day but a year later when we returned for our dog's annual checkup the vet was still grumpy. After two strikes we made the choice to switch to another vet and we are very pleased. read more

Don't see dr. Barbara if you care about your babies! She never once spoke to my 17 year old cat having seizures...like nothing at all, like she was interacting with a piece of wood. Worst bedside manner we have ever experienced at any vet, ever. She wasn't interested, curious or concerned about our cat in the slightest. Since she had no desire to even speak to our cat we will never be bringing her back. A waste of time and money and unnecessary stress to our already sick baby. Recommended to us by our landlord 4.5 years ago, we are so thankful to be established with this clinic. All the staff we have interacted with are friendly and professional. We take our border collie here for regular check ups, vaccines, and just recently got him neutered here. I like the clear discharge instructions and explanation of payments given at each appt and the email reminders about vaccine due dates. Overall positive experience each time. Scheduling an appt online or over the phone is easy, and each time we have needed something urgently, they seem to be able to have an opening very quickly. Once again I had to say goodbye to my beloved forever friend. Of course the only place I would go to was this hospital they have been taking care of my parents dogs before I moved here. I called on Thursday knowing my AKC Yorkipoo wasn't doing so well. He was going on 13 years and in my heart I knew it was time. I called them up and said I couldn't get him in until Monday I instantly began to cry there was no way I could let him go that long. However after putting me on hold they scheduled me an appointment early in the morning. I spent the whole night with my Gary, yes that was his name and when the time came to take him in I was sick with anxiety. However this emergency hospital has a way of making you feel like only your dog matters. My husband was quickly escorted into a room and after the text and X-rays it was confirmed my Gary was in the stages of heart failure. We got to say our goodbyes while staying in the room to see him cross over to that rainbow bridge. We heavy hearts we knew we did what's best. I was giving the option to have his ashes so for a extra small fee I agreed. A week later I received a call that he was ready to be picked up. What I received was far more then I expected. I beautiful urn, with a locket of his hair, a paw prints, and a beautiful card. I called them with grateful tears to thank them for turning a horrible loss into a beautiful one. I hope I don't have to go through this process again for a very long time but if I do they will always be my first place to call. Rest In Peace Gary we will forever miss you. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. As someone who worked in the veterinary field as a vet tech for years... I can tell you that this establishment does NOT meet expectations even in the slightest. It's SO AWFUL!!! I feel bad for my pets that I've ever subjected them to this horrid place and the lazy, uncaring staff! Please see below for more detail... (also be sure to check out attached pictures!) The techs need better technical training! They don't even know how to properly clean a dog's ears!!! I took my dog here for an ear infection. As a former vet tech (now retired) I know the symptoms of an ear infection VERY well. I know the protocols and how to treat an ear infection, but I REALLY didn't want to be a "high maintenance" client so instead of asking for the medication to go home (so that I could apply it myself like I've done a million times on other dogs) I agreed to let the practice do their usual routine of cleaning the ear and applying the medication. However, when I got my dog home I noticed that the inside of her ears were still FILTHY! They charged $42.50 for an "ear cleaning" and DIDN'T EVEN CLEAN THE EARS!!! If this weren't frustrating enough, the medication that was applied need to sit in the ears, meaning the ears CANNOT be cleaned again or the medication (which costs $80.00) will be washed out! So, I couldn't simply re-clean the ears myself. I then called the practice and explained that my dog's ears were still stuffed with wax and debris and the tech on the phone demanded that I send her pictures for proof. Since they were going to close soon, I emailed photos over quickly, and asked if I could please bring my dog back in have them re-wash the ears and reapply the medication. Reluctantly, after speaking with the DVM the tech agreed and I rushed my dog over there! When I got there, I could tell that the staff was annoyed with me (afterall, they were closing soon) and they grabbed my dog's leash and DRAGGED her into the back to "re-clean" the ears and "re-apply medication". When she brought my dog back out, she made a snarky comment about how my dog's ears are "squeaky clean" now so I shouldn't have any reason to bring her back in. (THIS IS TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!) Well... I got my dog home and checked her ears and although it appeared that some of the outer debris had been wiped away, I could still see a TON of dark, thick wax IN the ear canal!! AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW... That's exactly what happened! They didn't re-clean the ears at all; They simply wiped the outer part of the ear! (See attached picture of email FROM the clinic admitting it!!!) Due to this lack of care in cleaning the ears, I wouldn't be surprised if the medication doesn't actually work and my dog's ear infection continues; I'm going to have to take her elsewhere and ACTUALLY get her issue treated! I DEEPLY regret taking my pet to Santa Clara! I'm addition to all of this, when I brought my dog in to have her ears "re-cleaned" and have medication "re-applied", they only "re-applied" A HALF DOSE! If they had actually properly cleaned the ears, the former medication would have been rinsed out and therefore a FULL NEW DOSE should have been applied! However, according to the medical records (see attached) they only applied a half dose! Not only will this NOT fix my dog's infection but they had already charged me for a full dose! Such a waste of time and money! My dog was dropped off here for the WHOLE DAY. (The clinic didn't have any appointment slots available so a "drop off appointment" was my only option). My dog was with this clinic from morning until close to closing (likely in a kennel the whole time), and not ONE staff member mentioned to be at ANY point how my dog did. They made NO comments about her as a patient, or a living being. When I had to bring her back to get her ears "re-cleaned", my poor dog was terrified. She's never been anxious at the vet before but after full day HERE, she'd been traumatized! Bottom line... -The vet techs need significantly more technical training! They lack even the most basic of skills! -The entire staff (techs especially) need customer service training! They are rude! -For the lack of service here, the prices are ridiculously high. you just responded to my review. all of your response was lies!!!!!!! you got my cats confused and made up stories. example: you never referred me to your sister clinic! i never knew you had one. i never refused an appointment to put my cat to sleep!!! you just told me it would be 3 weeks before you could put her to sleep. you said our cat kacy was only seen one time by dr. brian in 2022. he had an exam in 2022, 2023, and unfortunately with barbara in 2024. if you look at my records you'll see i saw barbara (i can't call her doctor as she was the worst i've ever had to see) but i had to come back 2 days later for the steroid shot. no one ever explained he had allergies! seasonal, flea or food. i just found out he has food allergies from a good vet. it would've saved me a fortune & my cat a lot of pain. p.s. dr. brian tested him for fleas and he had none. i put him on flea medication just to be safe. read more

Every thing was fine for service until I had to put my dog to rest. She was 14. I knew she was suffering and dying before my eyes. I called the office and explained the situation. She was just there two weeks previous for concerning symptoms. They told me they had no appointments till 4 days out. I told them she was dying now and suffering. They said I could call there other clinic which was there back up facility. I called. Again they had no openings till two days out. I'm in distress crying cause I see her suffering. Golden Retriever. I called this,(her) vet office again asking for her to get in. They said they had no openings bot I could go to the emergency vet. Clinic near me. Still crying. Then about 10 minutes later they called back and said an opening just became available. Wow. Amazing right. I told them while we were leaving that they needed to change there euthanasia policy. To this day , a year later and I will never forget how much trauma I had to go through to let her cross that rainbow bridge. Maybe this is why I still hurt so bad today for my loss seeing her suffer when I had been a good customer to them. I would check there euthanasia policy first. We've been taking 3 of our pets here for the last year and a half. I've had multiple experiences where I have been met with ZERO compassion. I blew off my first negative experience because I loved coming here & really trust my pets normal doctors. (Dr. Brian & Dr. Amy are the best!) They truly have the compassion & expertise to treat your pets. But unfortunately I do not feel comfortable taking my pets here anymore. About 6 months ago an older female veterinarian with shot hair (I really can't remember her name) told me that our money was "going elsewhere" because my elderly cat had a UTI. I brought her in right when I noticed something was wrong. -- We do not neglect our pets, we have spent thousands here! One of our dogs gets allergy shots, I don't believe the average person goes above and beyond like we do for our beloved animals... Today I called to get clarification because my cats medication instructions were very unclear & the injections were all measured differently. Phoebe, my cat, needed these meds ASAP because she was in pain. I was told I'd get a call back in the next 10 minutes. I called an hour and a half later because I knew they were busy & was polite as ALWAYS. I received a scoff and was told that people have been waiting days to get answers to their questions. Great, Lanea, I will take my business elsewhere then! Their staff has been nothing but caring and helping with some very difficult decisions, they were not about trying to find the next procedure or service to jack up the bill...it was about the quality of life of two beautiful family dogs that we had to put to sleep on separate occasions when time came for our Chow mix Goa Goa a 12-year-old male who was all about the cookies and love and also our Mei Mei a 9-year-old German Shepherd who thought she was the mom of our granddaughters and passed before her time! We used Santa Clara Animal Hospital this past week. My blind chocolate lab had had surgery the previous week to have her eye removed. I had a list of veterinary ophthalmologists in case of complications with the eye, but she developed a cough. I emailed a video of her cough to our ophthalmologist who called me back and said we should take her to a veterinarian in the area. I tagged my facebook friends who live in Eugene asking where to take her, and they all came up with Santa Clara Animal Hospital. I called the hospital Monday morning at 7:30 when they opened, and they were able to get us in at 11:00. So far, so good. It would have taken me a lot longer to get her in in California. They asked me to keep her in the car in case she was contagious. Fine with me- she's better staying in the car and then walking straight into the room. The tech was nice and patient as I took a little extra time to calm my dog down once we got in the room. Bailey barks a lot! She did really well, and everyone was patient with her and her one-eyed, cone-of-shame status. Doc listened to her heart and lungs as all were good. She got antibiotics and a cough medicine pill. With about two days left on her meds, her cough is clearing up, and she is feeling so much better. Thank you Santa Clara Animal Hospital. read more

I'd adopted a dog that had records at SCAH. I was initially thrilled since we were within walking distance + I'd read yrs ago they had good reviews. Well, I went in there late Feb 2023 to ask some basic questions at the desk. All they wanted was for me to make an appt even tho the Qs weren't technical nor questions you'd have to be a licensed DVM to answer, by law. Having myself worked in the medical field as a licensed professional, I understand the restrictions for laypeople answering medical questions or diagnosing, etc, but I wasn't asking anything they nor anyone couldn't answer. All I wanted to know was if there were different Frontline-type medicines with dosages made specifically for a dog's size, i.e. for sm, med, lg dogs. STILL she wouldn't answer, yet the pkgs were right behind her within reach on a shelf. It was not until I got home & easily found flea & tick medicine that I saw they WERE specific pkgs for the dog's size. C'mon now, like I'm going to pay, what..? $70-over $100 to have someone answer me THAT?! Give me an effing break! Then I thought about it after getting home... when I adopted my dog, the foster family handed me over the nearly full bag of Purina kibble. I asked the person to read the ingredients (I'd been doing research on bad vs high quality dog food & the problems bad dog food can cause). Cheap, crappy grains, bi-products & junk fillers galore! And the foster home had been buying flea & tick meds (Frontline & sprays that were highly toxic) from this vet. Boils down, she has allergies, not ticks or fleas! Once we got home, I began making fresh food for her (following online advice I'd already researched for what she'd need) until I could find a decent ready-made dog food. As a result of receiving healthy food (and she loved it!), her incessant itching cleared up completely within a week! And I recently heard from the foster family how my dog reacted really poorly to the flea & tick meds recommended by this vet. On top of that, they continued to repeatedly administer them to her subjecting her to feeling very unwell! What the hell? THIS is totally UNacceptable, especially with it being under SCAH's recommendation! After being given a Wellness exam? I think not (re: WELLNESS)! It only made my dog worse! Poor assessment = poor treatment. These are animal lovers?!? Due to all this b.s., I'm now going to take her to a reputable holistic vet, one that won't irresponsibility & randomly suggest I pump my dog with totally unnecessary toxins that aren't even addressing the correct problem. In other words, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, TIME nor subject your animal companion to unnecessary discomfort & bad results! Totally incompetent! read more

I feel like I need to update my review, we have been going here since 2013 and we could not be any happier that we have found such a warm and welcoming staff. From day one Princess has liked it here. She used to be a nervous wreck at her old Vet. That could be because she had procedures done that she remembers. Not sure. The other place was not bad. We moved, is one reason for the switch. Anyhow that being beside the point the price here is always fair to what you are having done. There are times I have to bring Princess in right away for a steroid injection to help with a cough she gets due to a collapsing trachea, and the staff are really great at fitting Princess right in. We see Dr. Britney. I can't imagine going any where else for my pets needs. They are truly caring here. My Princess is a 15 in a half year old Pom. Since writing my review my baby girl has passed away. Her little heart was giving out. I want to let it be known how caring the staff is. They really care about your pet as if they are their own, and feel bad when your pet passes away. I had Princess cremated, they were very compassionate when it was time for me to pick her up. Let me tell you that was one of the hardest things I had to do. My Son bought me another Pomeranian puppy to help ease the pain and she was with me when I went to get Princess's ashes but I still lost it crying. The puppy has helped. Because of the great staff, and how well they treated my Princess I am going to continue care with my new baby Bailey Bear. I can't imagine going anywhere else. They really do deserve the 5 stars. I only wish I was able to bring my Princess here when she wasn't doing good on her last days. But I can't turn back time, and she went peacefully. Thank you for loving my Princess! read more

I brought my cockatoo here & was VERY happy with this clinic. He had a serious injury & needed to be seen immediately, I called numerous vets & there's not many options for exotic/avian vets apparently. I was thrilled to get an appointment within hours of calling. Our vet was fabulous, our poor 'chickieMagoo' unfortunately needed to be fit with an ecollar & they kept him to supervise him for over 5 hours NO CHARGE to be sure he was properly fitted & treated. I assumed it was going to be expensive with the exam fee & being an emergency appointment for an open wound, collar & 5+ hour stay.... Under $200!!! I am very happy to have found our regular vet for my cockatoo. I might even bring my sphynx cat & dog here as well! read more

First the short review, then the details: The medical service is ok (not great, unless your animal is a cat or dog, but ok), but the support staff needs work. Make sure you get clear and complete answers on services being provided and pricing. Expect front office delays at all stages of service, especially checkout. Now the details: I have taken a hedgehog, two guinea pigs and two cats to this vet during the past 5 or 6 years. First visit was for hedgehog, who had ear mites: treated, was satisfied with service even though doctor admitted they had never treated a hedgehog before. 2 years later, during visit for first cat, was told they had no records of my hedgehog visit. (Don't remember why brought cat in, but visit must have been ok since I don't recall problems with it.) Brought two guinea pigs in for exams about a year later because one was having problems using bathroom and getting sores on butt. Was told during exam doctor (younger girl) had little experience treating g.pigs and none treating type of tumor xray showed on sick g.pig's bladder. Dr did research and gave medicine used to treat tumors in cats, said pig should take for remainder of life. (It caused all her fur to fall off.) After first month, tumor didn't get bigger but didn't shrink so took in for surgery, but during surgery, doctor saw location of tumor was too dangerous for removal. Total cost - nearly $1100, including 3 months of meds. (After 3 months of meds, I decided to discontinue treatment because they were making sores on butt worse, causing inhumane pain for animal. Was going to have her put down, but as soon as meds stopped, sores healed and fur grew back. Guinea pig lived for another 9-10 months, pain free.) Last month we got a new kitten and took her in for "new pet" exam and shots, @ $140 charge. Was told she would need 2nd set of shots, would cost about $45. Went to 2nd appointment today, was told "exam will take about 10 mins, then doctor will give her the shots". I asked what it would cost me and was told $40. (They did not tell me it was $40 in ADDITION to the $40 for the shots.) At checkout they charged me $84.50 for "shots plus an exam, which we have to do every time". I felt this was so very misleading, since they had quoted me $40 at two different times. I cancelled the next appointment and will go somewhere else. read more

After trying several vets in the area, we landed at Santa Clara Animal Hospital. Not only is the location right down the street from our house, but the staff are kind and friendly, and the prices are on par with most other vets we've gone to. But the crowning glory is Dr. Amy! She is by far the best. Our poor senior dog has been having eye issues and Dr. Amy has helped tremendously. You can tell she loves animals and cares deeply that they are well. Plus Meila loves her -- she's always planting kisses on her and doesn't mind going to the vet (which is a rare thing!). They do tend to be busy and we often have a bit of a wait during peak times but they're willing to squeeze you in if you have something urgent and the wait is always worth it for the service you get. Just found out my cat actually has struvite crystals in his urine. If left untreated, this leads to other urinary tract issues and is fatal. If I had stayed with this Vet Clinic and not made the switch when I did, and his Dr. here continued her non-schelont attitude about his symptoms (brushing it off as maybe a UTI but she was really convinced peeing 9xs a day was his "norm"), he could have died! If I could rate this place negative stars I absolutely would. Do NOT go here. Patti, I see that you have replied. I'm not sure in what ways you guys can help me or my cat. Unless, it's to refund me my wasted money, I want no part in Santa Clara Animal Hospital from this point further. Only to share my experience so that others may take it into consideration. Came here because they see "exotic" animals and my bearded dragon wasn't feeling well. The doctor really listened to all of my concerns and was very kind to my Mango. They were able to diagnose what was wrong and give me a treatment plan. The office is kinda small but gets the job done. I was pleasantly surprised by the price, very affordable considering what we were getting done. I would highly recommend this place. Everyone there is incredibly friendly and helpful!! read more

Our dog Dexter was hit by a car. With virtually no funds to support him, we started a donation fund to help. 100% of the surgery costs were paid for, and a good chunk of it, including all meds for the pup, were donated by the surgeons. During the surgery to put in a plate, the doctors found a cancerous lump on his back and removed it for no charge. Every time we have come into the S.C.A.H., the receptionists were gleaming with happiness and always uplifting. Every doctor we talked to was truly wanting to get Dexter to feel better, not worried about the paycheck. I would recommend the Santa Clara Animal Hospital to anybody in the state of Oregon. Doesn't matter if there is a vet closer to you, this is the way to go. read more

These people are negligent and inconsiderate. If you care about your pet DON'T take him/her there. I took my beloved kitty to them when he stopped eating and "Dr." Amy didn't know what was wrong with him. We left and I waited for some results. When no results came I called and emailed and was completely ignored. My kitty died and it devastated me. He had been my companion for 11 years. I was referred to SCAH by a couple coworkers. I needed to bring my dog Boaty in for some up-to-date shots and also wanted to make sure he was overall in good health. He hadn't been to the vet in years! Our first experience with Barbara was great and we left with the good news that Boat was super healthy. A few days later he started reverse sneezing really bad and often. I had wondered if it was due to the kennel cough vaccine that he received through his nose. I called (they were open super early which was great for my worried mind) and they suggested I come in for a recheck and that it would cost $40. They were able to get me in the same day! Barbara reassured me that it was most likely due to the vaccine and that some Benadryl and time would help. Not only that, but she didn't charge me for the visit! If all of that wasn't already stellar customer service, Barbara called me the following Saturday just to check in on Boaty. I've been blown away by all of this and it was just my first experience.
