So happy we stopped in at this place! Beautiful winery and even better, because of their amazing and hospitable staff. Who knew Middle TN had wineries?! It's like $6 for 7 wine tastings and lots of great choices to choose from. Plenty of white, red, bubbles & sweet wines to choose from. Their store offers some great gift ideas and don't forget to take a bottle of wine for your home. Plus, the grounds and vineyard are really nice to walk around and take pics. They even have a large patio area. We went during the week, however apparently lots of of fun on the weekend with food trucks and music. read more

The drive in a little far so if you are in Nashville just visit their tasting room in Opry Mills, but we were in the area after visiting another winery and they did not disappoint. You get to taste 5-6 wines for $5 and they have a gift shop with chocolates and cheeses and sausage and just little cute wine related trinkets and clothing. I sampled w few wines but my favorite was the raspberry wine which came with a sweet treat of some chocolate candy. The candy was so good I had to purchase it. The sommelier was so nice and helpful and made sure we had an amazing experience. read more

Took a drive with a friend the other day who expressed the desire to visit a winery. Tried Amber Falls and Keg Springs (see other review). Each have a different character, so let's start with Amber Falls (and you can find my other a bit later today on my page). This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere. We took the trace (Natchez Trace) and you turn off US 412 about 1 and a half miles from the trace. You will know you took the right turn (Ridgetop road) from the brightly colored rock lining the road. The entrance is well marked and I noticed the empty sticks where vines used to sit. I found later they lost some varietals of grapes about 1-2 years back during a freeze. This reduces the number of wines they grow all of the grapes for by 2 (and a few blends). A loss, but the wines are impressive. Being with a friend, we got to share tasting samples (6 for $5), trying around 2/3rds of their wine selection. My favorites were the chambourcin (one of their varietals), the double barrel (chambourcin in French and American oak followed by aging in a four roses barrel), and the private reserve blend (my favorite overall). The most unique was the cajunfest wine, which was a sweet red that ends with cajun spice (subtle, but definitely there). The tasting room is very nice, although it may be too small for the days when they have music (weekends spring through fall from 3-7). And the staff was very helpful in describing the selections and parting with a bit of extra knowledge about the grapes, the winery, or the wine. There was live music this day, although we did not partake of the food or entertainment. On the first Saturday, they have a BBQ food truck that is reported to be the best in Columbia (also stated by a few others in the area, so may be true?). Other food trucks on other days. It looks like it would be fun to do that some time. They also have a cottage for those who have decided to imbibe heavily. It looked like two rooms in the cottage (you pass it on the way to the tasting room). I would recommend booking ahead (the couple next to us had one of the rooms and the pricing seemed reasonable). read more

I attended Cajunfest and it was just a coincide because I didn't know it would be occurring. There was an option to do wine tastings and to buy bottles of wine, while listening to a live band. There was also Cajun food for sale. The inside tasting room was very nice and the staff was friendly & accommodating. I'm not from this region, but I'd love to return some day. read more

Our first stop on our South Central TN Wine Trail tour was the highlight of the day. Every single wine was delicious! As someone who has been to countless wineries in Sonoma and Napa, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew the wineries in TN would be smaller productions, but what did they look like? What would the wines taste like? As the first one we visited, Amber Falls set the bar very high, and frankly, none of the other wineries lived up to it. Here are the tasting notes I jotted down. Blanc du Bois.. pleasant, grapefruit Chardonel.. very light, nice (this was a favorite of the day!) Blanc du Bois (off dry).. this one was sweeter Zinthiana.. honey! I loves this one Raspberry Romance.. paired with gourmet chocolate, this was better than desert Peach Persuasion.. amazing, tastes just like a peach I also like how they give back to their community. 15% of every bottle sold of their Patriot red wine goes to the Family Readiness chairty. Our server, Damion, is excellent at his job. Very warm, friendly, and knowledgeable. When we walked into the tasting room, he said we had to see the Christmas village they set up. He explained to us they change the display every year and it takes weeks to set it up and two weeks to take it down. For the tasting, Damion asked us what kind of wine we liked and we started from there. He showed us each wine label before he poured it. Listened to our feedback, and then decided what to pour for us next based on what we thought. I can't wait to go back! read more

Having been to a number of wineries in CA and WA, I snobbishly had low expectations for TN. But whoa --- this place is great! As other Yelpers have said, the setting is beautiful and the staff, including proprietor Tim, are friendly and knowledgeable. I understand that after the new year, there will be a tasting fee. But for now, it's free. Six pours per person. (What T and I do are get six each of different wines, so we can share and sample more.) By far the best is their premier cab, Crescendo. I've never had $50 wine before, outside of a restaurant -- but wow, is there a difference. The Chambourcin 2013, reasonably priced at $20 is delicious, Sarah's Choice is probably the only Riesling I've ever enjoyed -- not overly sweet -- and Cajunfest is like a party in your mouth! Amber Falls offers unique wines, and if you're there at the right time, you'll be treated to live music. Put Amber Falls on your must-do list if you're in the area. read more

Beautiful Ridgetop View! You see the vineyard first as you drive back to the tasting room. There is a large pavilion that is used for music events and cajunfest. I haven't been to one yet but it is definitely on my "to do" list. There are many wines to choose from in the tasting room. I don't usually drink sweet wines but I do like their Cranberry Caress and Raspberry Romance. My favorite is a dry red estate wine called Crescendo. My love for the Cajun Fest wine I purchased at a wine tasting caused me to drive more than an hour away to get more. So glad that I did. This winery has such a country and laid back feel. The ladies inside who gave the wine tasting were so funny and personable! We had a great time. Ended up buying a case. I was pleasantly surprised they had a large deck with big fans (it's so hot!) and a stage for bands. You can open your wine and drink it there and bring your own food in to eat. We decided to stay and watch the band. Such a nice atmosphere! read more

We are full time RVers and use Harvest Host for overnights with our RV. We have enjoyed our stays at these places. We are in a park near Hohenwald and we decided to take the car to the winery. It is absolutely beautiful. The staff (owner) was friendly and informative. We have paid for wine tastings more often than not. $5 is more than reasonable, despite the bad review with the nasty words in here. It was free in the 1960s but no more. Visited here recently on a day off while out driving with hubby. We've heard of Amber Falls since we live in the area, and always enjoy visiting somewhere new. We found it, finally, this area is really remote. The vineyards are at the front and you drive past to get to the tasting room and public "relaxation areas" if what I'd call the terraces, gazebos, etc. It's nice enough, just not as established as some other wineries in the area. The topography was different, and it seemed odd to see gravel under the metal poles supporting the recently clipped vines - not exactly picturesque. We ventured down the staircase to the tasting room, and there was one other couple in there and one worker. The worker was having quite an animated conversation with the husband of the other couple, and hubby and I first checked out their various items for sale, then went to the tasting bar and read over the menu offerings. Our total time in the room was probably around ten minutes, and the worker never acknowledged us or spoke to us. We interacted with the other couple a bit, but still we were ignored, so we decided obviously this was either too close to quitting time (5 PM when they close at 6 PM) or this guy just wasn't interested, so we left. We are not wine experts, but we do enjoy the fruitier, sweeter wines which is I think what many of Amber Falls' offerings are... but we'll never know. I respect terrific customer service, but really get annoyed at bad or no service at all. read more

My husband and 2 friends decided to try this winery being new to TN. It was the same day they had the Cajun fest. Thought it would be a lot of fun. Let me start by telling what was good about the experience. When you get there and park they have horse pulled wagons to get you up to the winery. The people handling that portion of this event were great, nice and very well organized. We did not have to wait coming or going for a ride. When you get to the winery you pay $15.00 to get in and are given a wine glass. After that there are no signs or directions on what to do next. Since it mentioned you can not bring any outside drinks or food we decided to look for the booth where they were selling the wine to fill our glass. Wrong! nothing. We found out by talking to people there you have to buy a bottle of their wine. Well we never tasted their wine. So we found out way to the tasting room. And of course it was quite crowded as everyone had to do this. We finally reached the bar and began our tasting. Again we knew nothing about this wine so we began asking questions. Unfortunately the person helping us knew nothing about the wines she was serving as it was her 1ST DAY and was given no education on the wines. We ended up with a bottle which we then took upstairs to find the table with the bottle openers. Now it was time to try the food. We found the line to but food tickets. They had several dishes to choose from. Plus dessert, oh wait by 4 pm dessert was sold out, really!?? My husband and I both had never had crawfish or fried alligator so we thought it would be a good idea to try one of each, Wrong. We stood in line for alligator which was pretty long but I must say it was well worth the wait. You received a good portion, was not pricey and tasted wonderful!!! When I went to get the crawfish you are given this huge platter and they throw tons of the crawfish on the platter. I then began to meet up with my husband and friends. Oh no, they would not let me leave this roped off area and would not tell me why. Then when my husband and friends tried to join me with their food choices they were not aloud to sit with me, again not telling us why. All this rude person kept saying was "they can not be here". Nothing more. At this point when I did try to eat the crawfish it was chewy and mushy. Nothing like I was told it would taste. At that point, since I was alone and not with my friends or husband, I left the huge platter of crawfish and walked out. It is too bad that the Winery did not have this event better organized. Helpful people somewhere on the premises. It is a unique location. We did mention to the girls selling the food tickets to at least let the people know who buy the crawfish how you a held captive with your food and if you are the only one in your party who orders it you will be eating alone. Of course who knows if they took our suggestion. My suggestion for next year, If you see the flyer and are thinking about going, DON'T. Or go for the Fried Alligator, bring it to your car and open your own bottle of wine of your choice and have a parking lot party!!! read more
