I bought the eye restore serum, and requested a custom deodorant. It could be my imagination...but I swear the eye serum started working after the second time I put it on. The reason I tried it is because we all know the disappointment of buying store-bought stuff that doesn't work. With all the "chemistry", scientists, and fancy fragrances you'd think they'd be able to make the stuff do SOMETHING! (Besides burn a hole in your wallet.) Chin has used organic herbs she's grown herself to make a serum that smells great, and really hydrates. It's lightweight and safe to apply to the whole eye area. I'm a mom to two small kids, and I don't get much sleep. I love coffee, I don't drink as much water as I should, and from "time to time" I get stressed out. All of those things take a toll of the eye area. And everyone tells me I still look young, but I have noticed my eyes getting fine wrinkles. So I bought the serum. And I think I look younger already. In a "I-get-lots-of-sleep-and-have-dewy-firm-eye-skin" kind of way. It's cool. In a weird way it makes me want to consider switching to green tea and spending more time praying while doing stretches in the early AM. Incredible, right?! Also, the bottle will probably last me 2-3 years (applying twice daily) because such a little bit is needed at a time. Moving onto my favorite product: the custom deodorant. I came across this recipe online (at Crunchy Betty.com) and asked Chin if she could make it. I love DIY stuff as much as the next domestic goddess, but some things I want to leave to the professionals. Chin was more than willing! She whipped it up in about a week, and I am here to tell you it is amazing. It is the best smelling deodorant I have ever smelled! Chin suggested some essential oils that would compliment the ones in my solid perfume and the result is that I smell great everywhere. If there is a happier, sexier smelling/feeling woman in this part of Virginia, you'd be hard-pressed to find her. I cannot wait to come back for other custom requests (face cleansing oil) and soap bars!!

I'm so glad the Omni took over and undertook a multi-million dollar renovation of them while keeping them historic. A nearby landmark sign claims this may be the oldest thermal spa in the country. How neat is that. My husband and I visited last weekend and only could get a reservation for the separate gender soak - this is bc bathing suits are optional during certain times of the day so, it's separated by gender at that time. There were about 15 women in my group and we all entered together, were given towels and a briefing by the staff and went inside the ladies building. It's large and round and laid out so that there is one bathroom (well heated) and about 15-16 individual rooms for changing and leaving your things. Groups were encouraged to share so I was able to get my own room (since I was alone). My husband only had 4 men in his group (typical) and he said that building has a waterfall you can sit in and get a sort of back massage. The ladies pool doesn't have that but it is larger and easily accommodated all of us. The water is crystal clear and gorgeous and I loved how the pool is very rustic and natural with a stone floor - there were gentle bubbles floating up and tickling me throughout the soak that come from the ground since the pool is a natural stone pool with natural heated mineral-infused waters. The 50-minute soak went by quickly and the staff informed the large group of ladies that this was a time for meditation and reflection and to please be quiet which I appreciated. No muss or fuss and there really isn't a lot else to do here - but, it's worth the visit to this historic "spa". You can do family soaks and gender specific at certain times and you do not need to be a guest at the Omni to book this experience - you can just google it and find the booking page, which is on the Omni website bc Omni resorts owns and runs the pool now. If you are staying at the hotel they have a shuttle but they have a small parking lot as well to self-drive. Word to the wise - it is a drive from the hotel of about 10 minutes and a handful of miles away. It's not "next door".

If you are staying at the hotel, there is a shuttle. If you are not, note that there is a shuttle from the hotel dropping off multiple people, so if you wait until the last minute to arrive it will be busy and crowded. Check in is quick, it's $35 per person. Once you get to your assigned pool, there are 2, there is nowhere to leave your stuff other than on the very narrow walkway. They ask you not to leave anything in the changing rooms. The changing rooms are not insulated, abs the dome is open. If was 20 degrees in the day we were there. The pool is warm, but not the building. The pool is neat, its about 5.5 feet deep, enough that you need to use the provided floats. Warm water bubbles up from the bottom, so Bob around and find the best spot. You get an hour, which is plenty of time in the warm water. The water is mineral rich, so it does have an odor. This is a historic activity and they have kept it pretty accurate!
