Outstanding customer service + an exact match to our existing flooring! After finding that our two previous flooring dealers had either gone out of business or no longer carried our flooring (tiger strand bamboo), visiting a number of local bamboo flooring dealers to no avail, and spending days searching on-line, Ambient was the ONLY dealer we were able to find anywhere in the country that carried our flooring. I love that I was able to order samples, which arrived in just a handful of days. Immediately after ordering the samples, I spoke with Chuck Basso who actually went out to check the flooring himself and was able to confirm that the samples were all from the same lot. Despite a huge amount of variation in colors with this particular flooring, they matched EXACTLY, which was awesome because they were also on their last batch. Chuck had me email him photos of our existing flooring and with his help, I was able to order that exact lot and all the trim that I needed. To be on the safe side, I ordered more than was suggested, but I was further reassured that it's one of their more popular styles of flooring and they didn't expect to run dry anytime soon, which is great because we're thinking of putting in hardwood in our garage conversion and it would be nice to tie the flooring all together. Shortly before delivery, both Chuck and Aaron spoke with me at length about what to expect with the delivery and how to inspect the pallets of flooring and gave me their numbers to contact them via phone if there were any issues. We even talked about whether their standard delivery truck would be able to make it up our steep winding hill. I especially like that each box was clearly marked with the lot number matching my floor samples. The entire process was amazing. I must've spoken with Chuck a half dozen times throughout the process and I wouldn't have been able to go through it without his assistance and valuable feedback. Buying and getting email confirmations was quick and a breeze. I never expected to have to order flooring from across the country in Maryland, but I can't say enough good things about the level of customer service I experienced. I was so excited to have our current pine and tile floor on our first floor replaced with consistent bamboo flooring that will hopefully stand up to the test of time, however, I am not sure when we will get our flooring! After being out of stock for the Tahoe solid bamboo, I was promised in writing to get the material the week of April 14th when I placed the order in February. On April 1st I called to get confirmation of the date and it wasn't an April fools joke, it took 2 days for a return call only to find out that I wasn't going to get my flooring as promised and oops they forgot to tell me it was delayed!!! Now the entire demolition of our first floor has been done and we are living in this construction zone with no running water because we can't put our kitchen back together until we get our flooring! This is the first company I have dealt with that doesn't put their customer satisfaction first. Unfortunately, they already have my $11,000 dollars so I have to just wait in misery and then for the rest of my life have to be reminded of this terrible customer service when I walk across my floor! read more

Great company to deal with. We had very specific needs for our flooring product since it had to match what we already had in another section of the house. We sent them a sample of what we had to match and they came as close as possible even finding a specific color lot that we could use. They held that lot until we were ready for delivery. I met them at a home show in Chantilly 2 years ago and took home samples of their bamboo and eucalyptus flooring. I went in one Saturday and they provided me more samples about 10 months ago, then 6 months ago I ordered a box of flooring to pick up and lay around my kitchen. I finally bought flooring, choosing the Cafe Brown matte eucalyptus hand scrapped. They were great with coordinating the delivery to my home; make sure you have help moving the boxes (I had 11 on a skid) into your home and you open flooring to acclimate. They are open and willing to talk to your installer to explain how this flooring must be installed for those in the remodel industry who aren't used to using such a dense wood. My bamboo floors are spectacular. I went for Oyster Shell Rigid Core Bamboo. I feel happy looking at them literally every day! It is July and they were installed last December. So far they have performed beautifully. The communication experience was also very reassuring all along. I was on the phone with Ambient many times before and after I made the order. They were on the other coast, and I wanted to feel confident that I am getting a right product and good service for a fair price. I modified my order two times, the second time literally at the last moment. They were ready and willing to accommodate the changes and explained the shipping process so I did feel safe with the timing. The local company that delivered the floor to my address was great too with thorough communication and extra help. A few packages were slightly torn but all the planks arrived in perfect condition. My experience with Ambient was about as perfect as it gets. From the samples I received in the mail, pictures or the floors I was considering and the friendly and responsive sales rep Tim, it made my choice easy. Knowing someone would give me honest feedback and opinions set my mind at ease. Delivery was simple and that was a fear of mine. The floors were delivered on time and my installer commented how easy the floors were to install and how they were the strongest floors he has worked with. The Eucalyptus floor has now been in my home for over a year. I live in Florida, on the water and on concrete. We glued the floor down to the concrete on the main level and have had no issues. Kids tracking water from the pool, plenty of spills and our dog always running around and no issues. A family of 4 with an active large dog and we never even worry about the floor. First I would probably rate this a 2.5 but since I cant I will round up. We had Ambient Installed in our home June 2012. The product looks great however I found something that really bothers me. The product scratches and shows scratches very very easily. Almost too easily. I had Pergo in my previous home and it didn't scratch this easily (or it didn't show as well). An example of how easy....we have a plastic high chair in the kitchen and without a baby in it, if we roll it around it will show white scratches (not plastic rub off) all around the wheels. These are soft plastic wheels and I would assume that it shouldn't show this much wear and tear. Overall I do like the look of the flooring but I would most likely use a different product if I had to do it over. Now I will add a positive. When we ordered the flooring the customer service was extremely good and we are very happy with the company itself. read more

My wife and I met Ambient Bamboo reps at a home show in King of Prussia. They were nice at their booth but we didn't interact with them much. Our builder sent us to a local flooring specialist who's prices were awful and the sales guy was not pleasant so we found the card we had gotten from Ambient Bamboo at the home show. Wow - from the moment we called them and talked to Doug, 100% customer service in a non push, non-pretentious way. SO REFRESHING!! They sent us 6 floor samples for us to choose from and helped us work within our budget. Hopefully, we dont need any new floors for many years due to the quality of the strand woven bamboo we bought but if our friends ever needed some, we would highly recommend them. keep up the good work guys!! read more

This flooring is crap. Several pieces out the box are unusable. Pieces splinter easily. Pieces warped out of the box and don't line up straight with edges. I dont recommend this brand. After install, gaps started forming bigger than you would expect. I acclimated for over two weeks. They claim after three days. Extra water treatment is a bunch of marketing pitches. read more

Out of all the things for my home renovation, purchasing bamboo floors from Ambient was by far the most painless. These guys actually care for their customers and it's evident right from your first call as they patiently answer all your questions about bamboo flooring, its types, and what is right for your home's conditions. I did an extensive research for my purposes - I customer support line is extremely efficient, without the annoying automated menu options. The wait time is barely noticeable. The delivery was the only thing that could have been better. The adhesive pails were delivered all bashed up but Ambient was quick to replace them. The quality of the floor is excellent, as is the look. I ordered the Malaga Sawn to go with the beachy decor I was planning for, and it fit like a dream. Plus, being hand stripped and with a Janka rating of over 3000, this is perfect for my pup to run around on. Couldn't have found a better bamboo company or floor. Highly recommend! read more

we installed click lock floors in a bedroom and the stairs leading up to it. for the bedroom, my review would be 4/5, installation was fairly straightforward and they look great, although the installation guide leaves much to be desired. for the stairs, i am so very frustrated with ambient. we bought the "Casablanca Bamboo Stair Nose" to click into the "Casablanca Strand Engineered Click Lock Bamboo Flooring Box". the pieces are not compatible out of the box. they do not fit together at all. we had to chisel down a strip of the locking mechanism on the boards for them to fit, which means that the pieces don't really lock together. there was nothing on the website indicating these pieces wouldn't fit together, and when I called ambient they just suggested hitting the pieces together with a mallet. also, ambient doesn't provide any specific installation instructions for stairs, aside from a very high level overview blog post I was able to find. read more

I did a lot of research and spoke with a lot of companies in our search for new hardwoods. Lots of wood samples, too. We ended up purchasing from Ambient. We had a problem with delivery, but Ambient made it right with no hassles. We hired a private contractor for installation after letting the wood acclimate in our house (in the dining room, out of the box) for a few weeks. We have had our floors now for over 2 years. The folks at Ambient were fantastic to work with, and the quality of the wood was outstanding for the price I paid. As others mentioned, very few unusable boards. We are extremely happy. read more

I've installed Strand click-lock carbonized bamboo floors by myself about 7 month ago. I guess it's perfect floors. it's very strong against water and scratch. My previous red-oak floors easily absorb spilled water, but this bamboo didn't, cause wax coated on edge lines. Even I've installed it on winter season, it's never changes it's shape or color. We looked at several Bamboo suppliers for hardwood floors including Teragren (great but over priced through their distribution network), CaliBamboo (good but did not have floor cover vents), Plyboo (best options including unfinished bamboo, but slightly more expensive than Ambient). We liked the quality of their product, enjoyed destructive testing on multiple brands, direct communication with them, effective and always available for help, compared to reseller who often are not knowledgeable about Bamboo. They also kept the floor until we needed it which was nice. They also categorize "natural" colors into "light" or "dark" which we thought was great, but in the end it did not help too much I think as the molding are not categorized in the same way and also you still want some variations into a natural product. The floors are super nice and we love them. read more

We are DIY'ers and are about to start our 2nd project using Ambient Bamboo Flooring. 3 Years ago we did our hallway and one of our bedrooms with the Strand Woven click lock bamboo flooring. We are very happy with the quality, look and how well the flooring stands up to a fair amount of foot traffic. We are now waiting on our shipment for an additional 800 sq ft of flooring. We had our bamboo floors installed about 1 1/2 months ago and are extremely happy with them, but can't speak to the long term durability quite yet. I have to praise Ambient on the excellent customer service we received when we had issues with their shipping partner, UPS Freight. UPS rescheduled our delivery four times, with extremely late notice (i.e. near the end of the delivery window) or even no notice at all. I spoke with Jon at Ambient and he listened to my explanation patiently and expressed concern with how UPS was handling the delivery. He told me he would speak with their UPS rep. I wasn't expecting anything from Ambient; I just wanted them to know how their shipping partner was performing. Imagine my surprise when Ambient ended up refunding us $250 because of the issues we had with UPS! Would definitely recommend to friends and family. read more

The customer service is excellent--depending on who you get. I had an issue with the initial finish I wanted going out of stock and trying to get new samples of a different finish, but when I contacted the initial rep I had worked with she fixed everything. Follow up on my order was excellent. When the floor started going in, my wife and I liked it so much we decided to do our entire upstairs and put in a second order. Communication was fast. The staff is very helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to work with you to meet your needs. Our floors were professionally installed and the installers had a difficult time nailing the floors down because the wood is so hard; many of the floor boards splintered. In the end, the installers went with a combination of glue and nails (mostly glue) to affix the floor. A few months in, the floors are holding up well. They are durable, but dog nails will damage the finish. I also discovered that the color does not go all the way through the solid strand flooring even though it says it does and I have had to fill and cover a few scratches. The floors have received a lot of compliments, even up against the 150 year old maple hardwoods they butt up to. I would totally recommend the flooring to anyone. read more

We were installing a new kitchen floor, wanted hardwood, but were concerned about scratches, as we have a 180 lb Great Dane. We looked at many expensive hardwoods, but found even the hardest ones still scratched ( some fairly easily) We looked at bamboo at local flooring stores, but they had very limited inventory. We also looked at Lumber Liquidators, and felt they had a very "cheesy" product, plus they have a lot of bad testimonials on line. We started surfing on the internet, and found Ambient, and boy, we are glad we did!. They are over an hour away from where we live, but it was worth the drive. We worked with Will, and he was wonderful at answering questions, and his knowledge of their product was evident. . It is a very hard product, and we have not had one scratch from the dog. I also looked at many other brands and options for bamboo flooring before I decided on buying from Ambient. I looked locally at floor dealers. They were more expensive and did not have 6' long boards which is what I wanted. Talked to CaliBamboo and the phone call left me needing to take a shower. The sales guy seemed like a used car salesman who was working on commission. Had a scripted answer for every question/concern. Talked to Doug at Ambient and got the complete opposite feeling. He said he had personally installed many Ambient bamboo floors (who knows if that was true but it felt that way). He talked me thru many concerns and issues I had read about on the internet about bamboo flooring and basically said call him anytime during installation and he could help me figure out problems. We exchanged many emails before I decided to purchase. Then I received an email about a sale (very good pricing), low cost shipping but the product I wanted (3.5'' x 6' stranded) was not on sale so he reduced the quoted price for the stranded product to offer some discount and offered $99 shipping so I decided to pull the trigger and order it. I of course was very concerned about not ordering locally. What if there are problems with the product? How do I ship back 3000 lbs of wood? etc. Fortunately we did not have those problems. So I received 850 sq ft (36 boxes) of wood on a shipping pallet. Very difficult to move but the delivery guy was incredible and we got it into my garage. Then, I learned about nail guns. 15 ga, 18ga etc. Their website says to use a18 ga Flex nailer. It was not until I got ready to install that I learned what a Flex nailer was and talked to Doug about trying to locate one. My local HD had 18 ga nailers but not the flex type. I believe you need the flex type because the floor is 5/8", not 3/4 standard HW floor thickness. Anyway, Ambient has a data base of rental places that has the Flex nailers. The nearest place to my house actually did not have one so I had to drive an hour each way to rent the correct nailer. It turns out that Doug could have rented and shipped me a nailer from their office. So, save yourself some time and just rent from Ambient and have them ship it to you. Anyway, the wood is beautiful. Very uniform and consistent. Not like some reviews of other products I had read about (lumber liquidators?). Extremely high quality. out of 36 boxes I had 2 boards that I could not use all of (had to cut around a blemish on each board). The stuff installed very fast and once we got the nail gun settings correct, everything went pretty quickly. The wood was in the room for 2 weeks before we installed it (no AC running at that time). It was very hot and humid the week we installed. we had the AC running the entire time of install. The floor pops and crackles when I walk on it when the air is humid now. When the air is dry the floor makes no noise. Will have to see how it survives the winter. I am concerned about the floor drying out and gaps forming or worse case the floor actually popping nails. Will try to post again in 10 months. If you read the websites, they basically say to keep any HW floor in a very close temp range (maybe 65-75 deg or something like that). Unlikely my floor will be in that range all the time. Anyway, if you are considering bamboo, call ambient. Talk to them about your concerns and they can help you think thru the project before you start. read more

We chose Ambient Bamboo after researching for almost a month all the available options. There are so many ways to buy bamboo for your floors out there - its just very fragmented. But there are only a handful of top suppliers - all the rest are just resellers, or local supply stores. We physically visited local stores, and evaluated a few other online suppliers (Dansk, Yanchi, Plyboo, Eco Timber). We opted for Ambient Bamboo, because they responded to all our concerns over email with superfast response time. We bought their Engineered Strand-woven click-lock bamboo, after discussing with them the goods and bads of the different types of bamboo available. They gave us a very honest opinion of what bamboo works for what type of environment and usage. We spoke to several other suppliers and researched online and most places would recommend one specific type or another, based on where they got the highest commissions. But Ambient offered very impartial and balanced opinions, and explained everything to us over both phone and email. They also shipped us samples via next-day air for free, because they understood our schedule pressures. Their product was slightly expensive than some others - for example, Lumber Liquidators' Morningstar brand, but you get what you pay for! If you want quality hardwood and excellent service and prompt communication - go with Ambient. Some other brands - Teragren and Yanchi seemed top-of-the-line, and were more expensive than Ambient's brand, but Ambient was able to offer us the best balance between cost and quality. read more

We installed Ambient Bamboo 3 years ago and have had problems with scratching. Its true that you just can't dent the product, but the finish scratches very, very easily. Our floor is stranded carbonized, so the white scratches show clearly on the dark surface. Now we are experiencing cupping on the edges. We see the surface while walking up stairs and so (we are at eye level with the product,) and the finish reminds me of Formica. We don't know what to do about the cupping. read more
