In 2022 I had a firewood cutting injury and a big piece of firewood shot out of my wood splitter and took the end of one toe off so I went to the ER who then referred my to Dr. Castles Office and they had to do a surgery to remove my badly damaged lil toe and the bone connecting it, the surgery was a success and the follow up care was Top Notch and they even took care of making sure that I was not in pain and arranged for a home health RN to come to my home twice weekly to change dressings and make sure everything was healing well. A month or so ago I stepped on my hard rubber door stop and I got a huge bruise on the sole of my foot next to my missing toe, in a matter of weeks it made a blood blister and that opened up in a hole in my foot so I went and saw Dr. Castle who made me feel welcome and he and his awesome staff cared for my injury and then they made my day by thanking me for my Service as a local disabled in the line Wildland Firefighter. Just beginning my experience with these folks and so far it's not going well. I have straight…read moreMedicare but it still took four months to complete a referral from my primary, and that's only because I called them. First call = 24 minutes on hold before answering. First appointment one month out. I received calls and texts for four days warning me that if I was late or missed the appointment I would be charged an additional $150.00. I was told to go online and complete the per-appointment registration, which was 80% financial and 20% medical information. Day of appointment I arrived 45 minutes early, front desk folks were very polite and quick. The surgeon was right on time. He saw me for three minutes, 20-second exam fully clothed, and gave me a tentative diagnosis, but wanted a CT to be sure. He told me the CT had to be "approved", but I have straight Medicare, no secondary. No per-authorization needed. A week out, still waiting for the doc to order the CT (and crreatinine) . I called today (16 minutes on hold) and the doc will only be in one day, next week, and he will then be gone for two weeks.. I'm going to cal my primary doc and see if he will order the blood test and the CT. This thing hurts and I need to get back to work. Could the fact that I only have straight Medicare and no secondary coverage, meaning I will have to pay 20% out of pocket, and I'm on a fixed income because I can't work until I get the surgery, and probably won't be able to pay the full 20%, be a reason for the delay? Is that the "per-authorization" (aka; "wallet biopsy") he was talking about? Maybe, after having nearly $40.00 deducted from my paycheck every two weeks for the Medicare Tax, for my entire career, I should go to Canada to get timely health care?
