This is a really nice movie theatre in Chicago! When I went, it was pretty busy, but they had a great system in place to get people in and to their theatres. The whole place, including the bathrooms and the theatre seats, were very clean! Concessions are expensive, but no more than other movie theatres around. The menu was pretty varied with a lot to choose from, including a full bar! Service was friendly and efficient. I'd come back here again soon. read more

Auditorium 8 was amazing seats were comfortable and reclined nicely. Second row seats were perfect, amazing view. The space was clean when we came in. Kids meal was $11 for a cup, popcorn, and a pack of gummies they were delicious. Service when buying snacks was patient and kind. read more

Had such a good time at the Neagley advanced screening. We got to see two episodes early, plus Maria Sten came out and did a live Q&A which was really cool. Free popcorn and drinks were provided too! The whole event was a vibe and I'd definitely go to another screening like this. read more

Really not sure why Yelpers are not so kind here. In addition to all the latest movies in the USA, This theater has the most international films shown of all the AMCs in the state of Illinois. You can see films that were amazing at the Cannes Film Festival from Spain, Korea, China, Japan, India, Ukraine, Portugal, France, Germany, etc. The seats are brand new and are so comfortable for your back. It's not a dine in theater and I don't care bc I don't want to eat theater food. The only thing I would love are little tables at the seats for the popcorn. I don't like to have popcorn pieces fall over to be polite. Love AMC and the movie popcorn deal is $29 per year for 50% off popcorn as long as you buy 6 per year. Great deal. And the large version is unlimited so for $5.39 you can share w the family and enjoy the movie! read more

Good experience here! Came with my family to take my 2 year old to see Toy Story 5. They were doing some construction and some doors were closed off but we were able to get in ok and make it to the elevator. There wasn't a big wait or anything. App wasn't working so we had to buy tickets in person. Wasn't terribly busy when we went! Staff was helpful as we weren't sure what to do with my son's stroller! Went to watch the Lilo & Stitch movie. Expected huge crowds but it was pretty empty. It was walking distance from the hotel so why not? These seats were so sift and comfortable, I thought I was going to fall asleep. Heck, with a half hour's worth of previews, you could actually do it. The 5 yo discovered that you could heat or make the seats cool if you wanted. This theatre also has a bar which seems to be the norm these days. LUCKY STRIKE BOWLING also resides in this 3 story complex. read more

We went to the recent Grateful Dead Meetup at the movies at the AMC New City. The sound was very good and clear, but it could have been a bit louder for a concert movie. Our main problem, however, was that they seemed to have cut it short. The encore was cut and a promised sneak preview of an upcoming film was not screened. We were very disappointed and felt cheated. Cool AMC we went to rest and watch a movie after exploring the city. The "laser" theater we saw our movie in was fully modern with not only the reclining seats, but also had heating for my sore back which was an unusual and welcome surprise. The quality of the movie projection was outstanding and the sound was comparable to AMC Dolby. read more

This is another nice theatre in the AMC chain in the River East area. You take escalators or the elevator up and the tickets counter is on the first level with the concessions, guest services and restrooms on the second level. They have big comfortable reclining seats and restrooms conveniently located at both ends. Parking can be pricey if you drive, but it is downtown. I use an app and park in a garage around the corner for less. There are nice restaurants in the area if you go out to eat before or after. read more

This cinema is amazing! Got a Cadillac margarita from the bar before going to my theater to see (Shelter). Everything is so expensive but what isn't in Chicago. Four of us dropped in for a movie. I was not in charge of anything other than sitting down and enjoying myself, which I did. I didn't buy concessions, but others did. I can't speak to the purchasing process, but the items purchased were standard theatre fare. I was so impressed with the seating. We were not in a section that gets wait service, but I couldn't tell that by our seats. They reclined, they had a footrest, they were comfortable. So comfortable, in fact, that two of the four of us (not me) fell asleep during the movie! Many months later we were at an AMC in Newport, KY and had a very different experience. We live in Cincinnati and we're not driving to Chicago to see a movie, but if we lived nearby we might actually go to more movies at AMC River East 21. It was like watching a movie in our living room. read more

I recently watched "It ends with us" in this AMC and I must say the experience was good. You can buy ticket online or through the Amc app. As you enter, you have to take the elevators up to where your tickets are checked in. From there you take the elevator up to the audi levels. Sometimes they ask for your ids too. There is a separate queue for A listers. You can get a combo of large popcorn and beverage in the price of medium if you are an A-lister. I was so excited for the movie, I ended booking the second row as all shows were fully booked. I absolutely loved the recliners, they are were comfortable, huge, has a heating panel. I had a good experience watching a movie here. read more

They show all the new movies, but I wish they've give international movies better timings. Showing 2 shows at 10am and 10pm for a 2.5-3 hour movie is just unreasonable. It's a theater with a good selection of movies and they post showtimes ahead of other locations which helps with planning. The seats are comfortable and have heat/recline options, but I did find row H to be too high in my theater, almost akin to an upper deck sports stadium seat where you look down on the action. Bathrooms smelled bad and had water all over the floor. Seemed to be enough staff but didn't go for snacks and avoided the box office after buying tickets online. We visited AMC River East 21 and had a deeply upsetting experience. When we arrived, a vehicle without a visible handicap placard was parked in an accessible space, making things more difficult for my disabled mother, who relies on a walker. After the movie, my mother struggled to use the QR code on the wall to validate parking because there was a box placed in front of it and several people standing in the way. During this process, she spilled her drink from her walker and became visibly upset. Rather than offering assistance, a group of three employees stood nearby laughing, whispering to each other, and mocking her while she was crying. When my mother asked to speak with a manager, one employee falsely claimed to be one before calling the real manager. Although one male employee did kindly offer to replace her drink, the larger issue is that these three employees believed it was acceptable to ridicule a disabled woman in obvious distress. The employee wearing a flower claw clip was particularly cruel laughing in my mother's face as she swept the ice from under her walker and blocked her path. My mother told her how fortunate she is to have the use of her legs at all, as public outings are already difficult for her. A 5'6-5'8 male employee with thick framed glasses laughed throughout the duration of the event with a much shorter unremarkable female employee and they went to the back to gossip some more. The lack of remorse for bringing a disabled woman to tears was astounding. We don't get to go out as a family very often because of my mother's mobility limitations, and what should have been an enjoyable evening became humiliating and heartbreaking. I was also disappointed that when the actual manager arrived, there was no apology, acknowledgment of the employees' behavior, or attempt to address the situation. No family should have to endure this kind of ableist treatment while simply trying to enjoy a night out. Work on the conduct of your employees so that this doesn't happen again. read more

This has been my go-to theater for many years, mostly because it's walking distance from where I live and has matinee specials. However, it's 2024 and it seems they have remodeled!! I was in theater #2 so it was smaller but it had brand new flooring and nice leather recliner seats. Everything was clean and sound/picture quality was great. Be sure to check the website/app for offers or specials before you go, otherwise food+drink can get very pricey. This theater seems to have the standard popcorn, sodas, and candies but also food like sliders, flatbread pizza, etc. In addition, there's a bar for those that want an alcoholic selection. Love that they have these options as part of their full movie-going experience. read more

This must be AMC's favorite theater in the entire country because they are the only theater that offers frequent double features. A few months ago, I found out about the Dune double feature on twitter and saved July 25 in my google calendar. Since then, I have been regularly checking the AMC website to purchase advance tickets. I've also been scanning reddit threads because the Dune double feature was a hot topic and many were looking to buy advance tickets. Unfortunately, I recently found out this one theater in Chicago is doing the double feature! I am here to make my plea! I'm from NJ and am visiting some friends who live in Chicago August 16-23. It has been such a long time since we last went to a screening. I missed going to the movie screenings. I missed seeing the movies on the big screen. AMC held a free movie screening On Wednesday evening, we saw "Champions" at AMC. The centered around a basketball coach who started to coach a special needs basketball team. After the screening, I walked around the hallway. I enjoyed looking at the famous movie stars of yesterday past and today. I love the nostalgia of theatre and films. They bring culture, history, social and societal aspects to life on the screen. read more

It has been years since I have been back to this theater! I used to go all the time because there are businesses/bars/etc. and it was a great place to pregame. I went to see Deadpool and Wolverine in their new real motion movie chairs! It was really comfortable and nice; the surround sound amazing. Food is still expensive lol but all movie there is. We will see how this holds up over time, but their remodel is SO NICE. I stopped coming to this AMC for a while for several reasons. Because it's in such a busy area, it attracts a lot of tourists and young kids who sometimes aren't the best mannered movie patrons. With this also comes the general lack of care to the environment, and the seats were super uncomfortable and disgusting, and the sound was terrible. But this remodel is REMARKABLE. Brand new leather recliners in every theater, a huge amount of options for movies, heated seats, wooden floors, great sound. I've seen four movies here in the past few months and it's remarkable. Only con for me is the lack of affordable parking around, but nothing a longer trip on public transit can't fix! Again I am hopeful this remodel will be taken care of and well maintained! read more

After coming here for a 2:50pm showing of Deadpool/Wolverine I understand why people aren't going back to the theaters. We ordered a popcorn and water so we didn't have to wait in line but it never came up in the pickup area. So had to get in line with several others looking for their pickup orders. The inside of the theater was absolutely disgusting! Apparently they don't clean up in-between shows. Theater filled with trash, seats had crap all over them. Even the garbage cans were overfilling with trash. Next time I'll pay the $19.99 and watch it home. read more

I've been to this theater a few times. It's nice but in a busier neighborhood than mine and it takes a little walk to get to that why I usually head to this theater for special events such as screening and premiers. But it's a great choice if you're in River North. Perfect to follow up a day walking around the Navy Pier, Michigan Ave shops, or any of the many attractions in the area. Yeah it's kinda the other touristy theater other than the loop. It's good. Feels very mall-ish and typical.l like it could be anywhere. But does the job. read more

Located on Illinois Street, this special theater has wonderful stars studded murals. Often offering posters and an extended menu, this place also has a bar, escalator, and elevators. I saw Polite Society. It was a coming of age, adventure fantasy movie filled with some Pakistan culture, drama of teens, beautiful costumes, amazing music, and surprisingly flowing martial arts, and a surprise ending. read more

I had not been to AMC River East in maybe 20 years literally. The last time I think I went to River East was with my kids for the last Harry Potter movie yes that long ago. To my surprise, it had changed in such a wonderful way. Not only was it the same theater I knew before, but Better!! The theater had added all of these icons on the floor, which was to my astonishment just breathtaking. The bathrooms were superbly clean. And there's a bar in there now yes an actual bar that you can buy drinks before you go into the movies. I'm not sure other than popcorn and soda if they serve any food, however it was a wonderful experience to go back with one of my kids to an iconic theater in the heart of N. Michigan Ave. If you want to go to a movie, you want to have fun, have camaraderie , you go to AMC River East theater. Trust me you will not be disappointed. read more

All around a terrible movie going experience...Between the roving youth gangs after 8pm causing the lock down of the theater so patrons had to be ushered in by elevator to the upstairs theater for safety meanwhile having to come thru them in the foyer with all the escalators turned off...not to smart...Just close down theater and refund money...duh Then there is the stale popcorn and unclean restrooms and the movie theater feeling like it's 100 degrees...Yet the air was turned on for the (what felt like)15 trailers making a 2 hour film like a 3 hour film...The amount of trailers shown is ridiculous at this place...By the time the film came on I forgot what I was watching...lol Did I mention the temperature in this place was at sweatbox levels. I should have went to the amazing Alamo Drafthouse or Evanston theater. I will never be back to this dump. read more

This experience at this theater was beyond horrible. First of all, the cashier was not paying attention, was rude, didn't know how to do things, refused to help us and when asked for a manager she had attitude. When the manager was called, her name was Agnes, two managers approached us like we were criminals. I felt unsafe as did my boyfriend because they had an aggressive attitude and stance. We are both A-list members and we were treated as lower class citizens (even though my boyfriend was wearing a suit and I was wearing a dress). Definitely discrimination. We were both A-list members and my boyfriend had trouble with his account because the people AMC A-list team messed up, suspended his account, without fixing it as they previously said they would, which caused issues. Me and my boyfriend were there for a birthday celebration, we informed the manager that it was my birthday, we informed the manager that we were repeat customer to that theater, we informed the manager that we were reviewers for a popular travel magazine. Management said they couldn't do anything about the A-list matter, and couldn't offer a ticket. Then we had a promotion for a discount ticket but management refused to honor the discount ticket claiming they didn't know how to use the promotion or apply it and they grew more hostile to the point were unprofessional and scary. We then asked for one courtesy ticket due to the circumstances. They refused. Overall this was a horrible experience and we do not plan on coming again. They really did not listen to what he had to say. Even if they would have given us the ticket we would have missed the movie anyways. We parked in the AMC theatre parking lot which may have not been owned by AMC. We paid for parking and lost the money ($22). Managers at AMC theatre told us to talk to the parking guy in the parking garage and tell him what happened. While we didn't take any validation from AMC, when we talked to the parking guy he said even if one of the managers from AMC would have talked to him the parking would not be refunded anyways. It's just professional reviewers intent to not only contact corporate but file a lawsuit against AMC for breach of contract for not honoring the terms of an A-list membership. This is why people don't come to AMC and AMC is losing money. read more

We went to see SUPERMAN during opening weekend a few weeks ago on our only night passing through Chicago. My son has been waiting for this film ever since he saw the live announcement a few years back. The theater was clean, the sound and screen were good, but the outstanding element was the tremendous service. I had cut my finger while unlatching the stubborn lock in my bathroom stall after the movie and I stopped an employee who saw my injury and said to come with him to the customer service window. While I was waiting, another employee asked if I was being helped. The young male employee gave me an alcohol pad and a band aid and was so kind! It's true that not all superheroes wear capes---but this one happens to work at AMC. Thanks for taking care of me! read more

The things I like about this movie theater are its location, within walking distance to my home and close to lots of restaurants, the amount of screens, which means more choices when looking for something new and fun to go see, and the reclining chairs...especially the reclining chairs. The space is getting a bit rough around the edges, and it's time for an upgrade and some renovations, especially in the ladies rooms, where some toilets need to be replaced, with water on the floor around them...yuck, and really dated surfaces. I'll keep coming here, for the first 3 reasons, but I'll applaud when they close for renovations. read more

This theater used to be a gem. Now it's totally run down. It takes 15-20 minutes to get through the concession line. Only one out of the four butter machines work. Only one out of the six soda machines had soda, and only one out of the six soda machines had ice (both on opposite sides). The men's room was out of soap, out of paper towels, and the floors and urinals look like they haven't been cleaned in months. The floors are trashed throughout the entire place. The escalators have so much dirt and dust built up, it's embarrassing to say this was once Chicago's best movie theater. Absolutely disgusting. read more
