The SPECT scans were extremely helpful, and Dr. Mendenhall is an awesome Amen Clinic psychiatrist!

I went in and found a really great doctor there, but man, they make you pay through the nose. And then follow-up appointments are $500 an hour or $250 every half hour, and they will not renew your prescriptions if you don't actively have regular appointments. The brain scan and the counsel and the supplement advice I received were helpful to know, but I think I could have gotten a lot more out of those $5,000. It really didn't tell me anything new and they didn't prescribe me anything revolutionary. Even though I can see what's going on with my brain, you still have to think your way through this. So I don't think if you're considering whether you should spend $6,660 at the Amen Clinic or invest it in cognitive behavioral therapy, I say you'd be better off using it on therapy. It was an interesting experience, albeit expensive and not so fruitful, but I think the worst part is the not getting prescriptions renewed because I don't want to pay 500 bucks an hour. I found it's not a true "care" or solution place- it's a profit center primarily, with short-term focus and poor priorities for human care. read more

The scans were interesting and affirming of what we knew of my husband's mental health. However, the treatment was terrible. Dr Seawell recommended removing a current medicine without appropriate titration. My husband went into terrible withdrawal & as we sought help none was to be found. Email responses were unhelpful and did not address the issues. We eventually had to seek alternate medical attention. Not only was the cost at Amen Clinics very high, the cost on my husband's mental health for the months following due to inept treatment was far too high. When you choose to pay for something like the brain scans in search of hope for a new way forward and instead you're set back for many, many months, it's pretty painful and disheartening. Amen Clinics will promise you answers...before you pay them. After the scans, the story does a 180 degree flip. Well maybe it is this or that, but we cant really say. There is no value to the testing if it doesnt lead to actionable diagnosis and they made lots of promises about effectiveness at the beginning. If you have unlimited money to throw away, sure try them, if not, you can get a whole lot more effective testing to lock down a diagnosis than at Amen. I recommend finding a really good functional medicine doctor. If you are considering the Amen Clinics, you have probably given up on traditional medicine, but Amen Clinics is just a snake oil seller, not an enterprise trying to heal outside the confines of traditional medicine. BTW, I have left multiple message with their "records department" trying to get the records of my scan, which is mandated by HIPAA, but no response. This is breaking the law and I have filed a complaint with the Civil Rights office. Dr Amen should be ashamed to put his name on this business, but most charlatans are shameless. We were able to secure an official diagnosis for our son. We liked our initial experience However, I found some of the office tactics to be more focused on securing your money and less on the patient. They suggested very expensive supplements to our 10 year old Child - who has oral sensory issues. Money down the drain. And suggested very expensive secondary treatments that were fulfilled yet will go unaddressed as we do not plan on returning do to the lack of responsiveness from the scheduling team and manager despite explaining the issues. read more

I paid over $5,000 for this "treatment" hoping to see results for my clinical depression, and the only thing I got was the clinic's recommendation that I buy their ridiculously expensive "supplements". My depression has actually become worse - and the most painful part is that Amen's "clinic" doesn't even care. My son (25) had a severe head injury when he was 3 and is now having various issues - psychosis etc. He spent last year in and out of hospitals and psychiatric facilities and is just getting worse as the meds they use are so outdated and awful with hideous side effects. In desperation I enrolled him at the Amen Clinic. I have to say that although Dr Pham was excellent and very knowledgeable, I left feeling very dissatisfied - he showed that the brain injury had healed and the current issues needed addressing with some medicine but predominantly their supplements. We all know that supplements take a long time generally to kick in. I just feel that for basically $5 500.00 they should be offering more. I am not able to access his medical notes through his portal, which they told me I would be. I have called them twice and still nothing. We get a follow up in a few weeks and one several months later and that's that. No help with going forward, teaching him coping skills that might enable him to finally get a job - nothing. I was told in my initial phone call to them that all this would be provided. I am deeply disappointed and sorry I even bothered going there although finding out that he has fully healed from the head injury is great - shame about the rest. I wish I had come to Amen clinics so many years earlier as it has made such a change in my everyday being. I always knew I had some element ADHD but learned it was more than I realized as I watched Dr. Amen and his wife Tana speaking about it on videos. After 2-3 weeks of being on supplements, I felt a calm that I had not felt before. Even without anxiety, I didn't understand that my mind was in the frantic state that I had become accustomed to since my teens (I'm in my late 40s). The calm was strange but peaceful and I am now able to finish tasks without thinking about what else I need to do or going in between different tasks at the same time. I am looking forward to "catching up" with life where it always seemed impossible and to starting a business that I have always wanted to but felt held back from because of my lack of focus. The people working in the clinic are amazing too. It is so nice to be known by name every time I walk in. Everyone is so friendly! Dr. Momaya has been great, Elle is so helpful, Hedy is so sweet in HBOT (I love seeing her every time I come in), and I always enjoy chatting with Dr. Gattis as he answers my neurofeedback curiosity questions or having conversations with him about what affects frequencies in my brain and connecting the dots. What can I say about the Amen Clinics, but truly an amazing organization and staff from top to bottom. The Amen Clinics understands that this process of working on ourselves starts with the doing the work. And they practice what they preach with a very comprehensive intake program that is meant to find what the root of our/the patients' challenges may be. In this instance, my son, who is an active kid, but struggle immensely with focus, concentration, impulsivity the list goes on... ADHD to a tee!!!! :) But the initial care from starting the process with Katie Benson their outreach manager (amazing energy and enthusiasm for this healing journey) and Lauren Marcheftka the diagnostic specialist who put so much care into my son and left him being so intrigued and enamored by what is to come with the brain scans, and made him feel at ease and excited to take the next steps in this wholistic approach to treating his body and mind! Dr Karimpour what an amazing treatment plan that was customized for my son and the care and time she put into answering our questions and putting forth a very comprehensive road map of supplementation, diet, potential school initiatives that we should look into to enact for his studies, and the collaboration with other therapists that we are working with as well. And last but not least, Elle Mollet the Clinical Director for the Amen Clinics, she is amazing, the field general of the clinic who has an amazing heart and soul and understands what we needed for this healing journey. They care about one thing, money. They talk about real care but they talk for 10 minutes and prescribe more drugs. I paid the $5000 for a scan and have paid thousands more in the past 3 years for treatment. I even bought the seminars and training. I had a good doctor who didn't just give you more pills, he gave the care I was going to Amen for because that's what they profess to do on social media. That Doctor quit because he was tired of the push from Amen to push more patients through like a conveyer belt. His replacement is a drug dealer who just kept adding more and more drugs which is what any doctor at Kaiser or anywhere else can do and for free. My last appointment was 12 minutes and 7 of that was a problem connecting. $280. I've asked for someone from management to call me so I can discuss what's going on and it's been over a month with no call. You're better off keeping your money and going ANYWHERE else. . read more

Going into my experience with the Amen Clinic, I was nervous. In the past, I haven't had positive experiences with doctors or medical staff who have truly listened to me. My experience at the OC facility was nothing short of amazing. Emily, my outpatient manager, played a huge role in making this process feel comfortable. As I opened up about my mental health history (something that isn't easy) Emily made me feel completely at ease. I felt seen, heard, and understood. It is clear that she's passionate about helping people. Her warm, empathetic nature makes her a perfect fit for this role. In my appointment with Dr. Storage, he walked me through every step of my results in a way that was clear and compassionate. I felt comfortable throughout the entire process. Dr. Storage didn't just throw prescription my way. I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Amen Clinics, which was the complete opposite of what they portray on social media. I went in for a post-concussion evaluation, (they are supposed to be experts?) seeking real answers and expert guidance because my life had been completely altered--physically and emotionally. And still is. Instead, I was met with an incredibly dismissive doctor who showed no compassion for my situation. When talking, I shared a traumatic experience that deeply impacted me, and her response was shockingly insensitive. She literally looked at me when I was finished speaking and said, "That's it?" monotone and emotionless, zero compassion. It was bizarre. She then proceeded to ask me what medication I WANTED to try, as if I were the expert. Just because I said I was scared of gaining weight on a specific anti-depressant that I heard could cause weight gain. So, she said "Ok what one do you want to try." Like I am the trained professional with extensive knowledge in a wide variety of medications? Again, bizarre. I came looking for real help, and this was the opposite. Take a look at the scans then immediate drug pushing. I spent thousands of dollars hoping to receive a thorough, expert-driven approach, only to be told I was depressed and anxious--well, of course I was, I had a brain injury that turned my life upside down? Instead of addressing the root issues, they immediately pushed medication on me without truly listening or offering meaningful solutions. The entire experience felt like a rip-off, impersonal, rushed, and completely contrary to the image they (Dr.Amen) project online. I deeply regret putting my body through their expensive brain scans, which ultimately led to nothing but a rushed diagnosis and a handful of prescriptions. I want a refund, and I wish I had never wasted my time, money, or trust in this clinic. If you're looking for real concussion care, I'd strongly advise you to look elsewhere. read more

I paid it, and within the three day period I canceled my appointment and they sent me a refund. Then every week for the last month or two they've been attempting to charge my card of money, and they finally got one through and had to cancel my card. Thank you for your decency and understanding. With that being said, I do not think either was in the wrong with this issue; I guess it must've got lost in the cloud of email or somewhere in the middle of us, something misfired. As I am satisfied to have had the problem solved, I remain firm in my statement that for $6k plus all the extra/ hidden fees, more help and communication should be available around the brain scan. I spoke with the clinic director Angie whom was very apologetic regarding the clinic not being responsive regarding my request of my SPECT imaging. She immediately sent it over. (I wish I had dealt with her in the beginning). I love the work of Daniel Amen, I have read most of his books and agree with his philosophy on mental health and less reliance on pharmaceuticals. Admittedly, this clinic didn't give me the answers I was looking for, but I am sure for the right patient they would be good. I still wish this clinic was better informed of BVD- Binocular Vision Dysfunction as that was what most of my challenges came from and I could have had three years with far less misery. read more

A total sales gimmick. Talked to 2 staff member and both of them were total sales people that didn't provide any information. Recently heard about the SPECT brain function scans from a friend, and was curious about their methods. Called this clinic and was put on hold for 15min then send to voicemail. A few hours later, called back and spoke to a young guy who was a total sales person, and was trying to go over their "program" with me. I asked him to send me the information via email with the pricing, he sent me a bunch of brochures that was exactly on the website and no pricing. Emailed back, no response. Called again, talked to yet another young man, who also tried to go through the sales pitch again. He did provide me with the price: ~$3500 for the scan and a questionnaire. MRI scans and CT scans even self pay is less than $500. That is a very steep price tag. This clinic claims to want to help people with illnesses, but only the rich can afford any of the services. The psychiatric care is personal, therapeutic, and competent. Everyone is friendly and caring, from the phone staff, to the personal assistants. Dr. Licciardi sets an example for what a knowledgeable and caring psychiatrist should be. Brittany and Anthony are fabulous assistants, always working to resolve any complications I may be experiencing. Also, their communication with the doctor is impeccable. I bought into this place thinking I'd get answers, support and help. I gave them 2 starts simply bc it's my own damn fault for being gullible and forking over almost $7,000 to get absolutely NO WHERE with information I already had and knew. I told them my concerns upon signing up and what I wanted to find out which is something the scan doesn't do but they never told me that it couldn't give me that information despite telling them that is what I was looking into and my concern. They just took my money and left me empty handed. The very few zoom appointments I had we with dr. That went over my report and that's it. It's was the biggest waste and I absolutely regret doing throwing all that money away and being in debt. It's sad for people like myself with physical pain and mental health pain, we would pay anything for answers and help and they took advantage of that. If you need help and think this is the place for it, reconsider. After paying over $5k for the package I got I had to pay for additional testing that wasn't even covered. I've been a patient at the Amen Clinics since 2016. I was depressed, suicidal, and had extreme insomnia and anxiety. This place honestly saved my life, more so Dr. Momaya. I have had many psychiatrists over the years, but he truly cares about his patients and is so sincere, honest and so willing to help you. He doesn't bs and gives it to you straight up. Dr. Momaya if you're reading this, thank you so much...I am eternally grateful for all you have done to help me heal and be a better person. Also, Kristen my therapist has helped me TREMENDOUSLY! I went last week for my first brain scan. Everyone there was very nice and helpful. I was very nervous and everyone made me feel very safe and welcome. They took very good care of me and checked in frequently to make sure i was doing okay. I go back for my second brain scan tomorrow. They also give you a free book which i am reading now and it is very helpful. Looking forward to getting my results and getting help. I have been to about 20 plus physcatrist my whole life and i'm only 22. This is the only place that has ever taken the time to look at the actual organ causing me all of my problems ranging from anxiety,panic disorder,ocd,depression,phobias etc. I am very very hopeful that amen clinics will FINALLY be the answer and help provide the relief i so desperately need. After trying over 20+ medications, multiple thearpist's, Congnitive thearpy, etc i am happy to have found a physcatrist that is different from the rest. read more

I scheduled appointments with the Amen clinic - they were super nice and helpful. When I checked the reviews, I decided to cancel. That's when things got challenging. I had to send no less than 5 emails and make 4 phone calls to get refunded and I still don't have the full refund, despite them promising that it was a deposit and refundable. At first they are nice and enthusiastic as they should be seeing how you pay $6000 upfront. Then the hidden fees arise. $3,000 for a hyperbaric chamber followed by $1,000 in vitamins. Then there true colors start to appear. Take this and that prescription medication. If their chosen medicine doesn't help they leave you to suffer. I actually contacted them about my anxiety due to a recent TBI. They prescribed me an anti- psychotic medication which made everything worse. I contacted them to inform them that not only was my prescription not workin, it was actually making things worse. I begged for 10 tablets of an anti anxiety medication to help me weather the storm. I usually don't post reviews but have made the time to post here and on Google to help others with their decision process. I really wish I would have taken other reviews here into consideration but when you're desperate for help (especially for mental health reasons) sometimes you just want to explore all options and not listen to everyone in case their reviews were made on emotion and not reason. That was a mistake on my part. I made an appointment for my adult son for an initial appointment and it was an ok experience. The doctor recommended a more in depth evaluation but not a scan for my son's situation. You would think with the cost of these appointments, we would have gotten some sort of follow up call/email to move forward with the next step of care but nothing. I called several times and left messages and didn't hear back because it's hard to get a hold of someone for "existing" patients. Once I finally got a hold of someone, she knew right away who I was and transferred me to the "clinical team" which there was no live person, just another answering machine, so I left another voicemail and once again wait a week with no callback. I finally called again and got through by pressing 1 for being a new patient and got through to someone. She looked up our information and the care she was recommending was completely different from what the doctor had recommended. I think at this point I had a really uneasy feeling about the clinic itself. If I'm having this much trouble getting in contact for a proper follow up appointment, how will the rest of our experience be? I really wanted to get help for my son but this whole experience has been a real let down. It's hard enough being the caregiver for someone who has mental health issues and then to have a gleam of hope that something can be done, only to be led in circles has been devastating. read more
