From the outside, if I didn't already look the place up online, I probably would not have entered. Once inside it's an older looking, but nice wood everywhere bar and grill. We are seated and our waiter had the nicest, friendliest demeanor. The food choices range from vegetarian to meat lovers to pizza/calzones to hot pepper lovers. There is something for everyone! We took a little time as we are having difficulties deciding. Once decided, the food came out not super fast but just about right time. As you bite in, you can tell it is fresh ingredients. Was here this past weekend for a surprise 40th birthday party. They offer a smaller room to rent for parties of about 50-75 people so this space was perfect size. They have a small bar with bottles of beer, wine and pop as well as several bottles of liquor. Now, they do this to prevent you from having to walk back and forth to the main bar area however you can do that as well should you want something such as a draft beer. The food was pretty tasty. The buffet style offerings were penne with red sauce, baked chicken, chicken francaise, cheesy potatoes, mixed vegetables and salad. Everything was hot and tasty. The red sauce was heavy on the garlic which pleases me because I'm of the "the more garlic the merrier" crowd. Both chicken offerings were moist and seasoned appropriately. The cheesy potatoes were scary to look at as they reminded me of something you would see in an Adam Sandler lunch lady buffet setting however they were delicious, cheesy and baked with crushed ritz crackers on top which I thought was great. This is a great local hideaway that has the most amazing wedding soup. The only place that would trump their wedding would have to be made from scratch at home. I had angel hair pasta; their portions are *very* generous! I could only eat a third of my meal and I walked in HUNGRY. The service was prompt and friendly. Everyone was welcoming. It was an interesting set up logistically; you walk into a bar/pool table area to get into the back area where it is a sit down restaurant. This is clearly the hub for all the locals to go when they want to get out of the house and have a little "social lubricant." We were with locals and they were approached by people they knew on two different occasions. Very warm and welcoming and had that kind of "where everybody knows your name" sorta vibe to it. This isn't a place I go to very often, but every once in a while it pops up in my life. It has a general bar and dining area, as well as an event room in the back of the building. My most notable experience was a catered event back in 2012 after my grandmother's funeral. I wouldn't say it was spectacular, I recall the chicken being somewhat dry, but overall it wasn't a terrible experience; especially considering the circumstance. I tried their pizza more recently and wouldn't say anything really stood out about it, it was just typical bar pizza to me. It's not a very upscale atmosphere, more of a general hangout and casual dine-in place. It's been around for quite a while now, and in Girard there aren't a whole lot of places that last that long, so there is definitely something people like about it. For my money, it's not the first place I would go, but you could do a whole lot worse. read more

The waitress we had was absolutely horrible - our appetizers came an hour and half after we order- one meal was cold(unacceptable)- the last two dinners just arrived at 8pm- after 2 hrs.....the wedding soup was not good at all....the overall service not what I would expect from a well known establishment. There was a banquet which slowed down previous pizza orders and so one table was upset, but when it's busy, people need to understand that food and service will be slower. I'm usually happy with Amen Corner's food and I have been trying to support small and local business during covid but I probably won't be ordering from here again any time soon. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs because I had been craving it all day. I also ordered my son some french fries, bbq boneless wings and pretzel bites. My first issue was the cheese that came with the pretzel bites. It was just gross to be honest. It had that film over it like it had been sitting for a while. I ended up just using some dipping sauce we had at home. My main issue was the spaghetti and meatballs. It was luke warm at best (and I know this isn't a time issue on our part because they told us 20 minutes and my husband was there within 15 and we live right down the road.) The sauce was just tomato water. It didn't stick to the meatballs or the pasta at all, so instead of everything having sauce on it when you go to take a bite everything just tasted vaugly of tomato and was cold. I truly hate leaving negative reviews but this pasta was just not even edible and I'm really upset of this is Amen Corner's new standard of food. read more

I totally understand that most eating establishments have suffered a great deal during Covid and I had no problem waiting over an hour to be served, with that being said, there was absolutely no excuse for being served frozen cavetelli, but even worse than that was that the management never bothered to come and apologize which told me that Amen Corner doesn't give a s__t about their customers, So in that case I will not come to this place again nor will I recommend it to anyone else! read more

We have been to Amen Corner many times, I usually have no issue with the food. On occasion it is excellent but usually just average. What I HATE about this place is the hostess. She is HORRIBLE. She must be a family member or she would not be employee for this long. She is always crabby, never smiles, and is unpleasant to EVERYONE. Get rid of her! Amen Corner's got a pretty wide menu, and I can't say I've ever been let down by anything I've ordered. The burgers/sandwiches are good, the wings/ribs are pretty good, the pizza's great, and their entrees/specials are worth trying as well.
