I love American Airlines, it's my airline of choice! I've flown all over the world over my 50+ years and have tried many many airlines, but settles on USAir many years ago, which became AA and AA has done a very nice job keeping me happy! Yes, there's the occasional issue that arises, but they do the best they can handling those wrinkles that occur. The flight on this particular trip was smooth and great. Staff was helpful. Pilots were informational and professional. FAs were great too. Will continue to fly AA!! read more

I started my journey in providence at 6 am 5/20/26. The plane ran late due to a fueling issues, so missed my connection to Pensacola. They rebook me for a 6 pm flight..and 3 hours later cancel that flight in an email, nothing about rebooking me or alternatives. Have to call them they book me. 430 tp Dallas arriving at 730 then 830 to Pensacola. I embark at 340 pm then we sit on the runway for 4.5 HOURS. Flight crew times out have to find a new one plus weather ( that's not their fault). Arrive in Dallas at 1119 pm... go to find my bag, which has been sent to the wrong airport in FLA. no clothes. Book and Uber 30$, hotel 220$ and go to bed as I've now been up 24 hours. Wake up next am Hilton, gas has been turned off due to leak on city ( also not their fault) so head to the airport for my 437 pm flight to Pensacola. Get there sent to three different terminals all by train as place is huge. Finally get where I'm supposed to be and flight says to Fort Walton Beach ...... hour away from where I'm supposed to be flying.... Ok, at least I'm going. Get there this ohh s where my luggage was supposed to be mind you they NEVER told me about destination change. Family scrambling to come get me/ go to special luggage NOT there in Pensacola... another 1.5 hour drive. Get to my aunts at 930 pm. 40 HOURS. Call today to see what they can do for me and I missed two days, they can book me in back of the plane Thursday morning with 31 minutes to make my connection...... ohhhh and their policy is gates shut 15 min before take off. So I ask to be upgraded to business class so I can make connection NOPE. Speak to 4 ppl. Third person just transferred me to someone else without telling me who is online booking support! End up buying the business class tickets for what she tells me is a TOTAL of 191$...... ok at least I should make it. Asked at least 3 times so the total for both flights is 191$ right, yes, it is! Just checked my credit card, was NOT 101- more like 300$....i come here twice a year to see my aging aunt and uncle who have had some health concerns and they robbed me of 1.75 days with them..... lie to me. Cancel flights without any alternative AND send me to the wrong airport. I always fly SW and have never had an issue, but was trying to fly out of providence NOT Boston. And boy did I pay a price. Avoid American Airlines like the plague!!!! They're horrible ... Hope no one has to go through anything's ng like this. Safe travels everyone!!!! read more

Our 1st flight was delayed which made us miss our connecting flight. Star at special services was kind, understanding and helped us for a long time until we found a flight that would get us to our final destination. Star is an amazing employee and American is lucky to have her! read more

Every time I fly this airline the planes either late or cancelled! I wish they were better!

I had a flight on American Airlines at 0730 AM with a connecting flight at Charlotte NC with a 37-minute layover. Needless to say, the Flight Crew (from the night before) instructed the Mechanic Crew to check the Engine Oil. THEY DID NOT! The next morning as we were BOARDING our Flight, the morning Flight Crew discovered in their Pre-flight check that they were still LOW ON OIL!!! We had to de-plane and wait 30-minutes while they located a mechanic to put oil in the engine. Of course, this inexcusable action made me miss my connecting flight. I had to wait six hours in Charlotte for another flight and missed my appointment. Their "oversight" cost me an additional $350 in hotel, food, transportation, etc.! The flight was delayed over 3 hours because of a significant logistical error induced by American Airlines. They loaded extra cargo, which therefore made the aircraft overweight. They asked for volunteers to get off, which they did to rectify the situation. We were still at the gate for over 3 hours because the logistical planners, gate agents, and operations offices could not agree on a course of action. This forced me to have to change my connecting flight to a much later time, and also change my final destination because there were no later flights to my original one due to the delay. Additionally, my bag did not make it on my flight and arrived the next day. Despite the baggage agent guaranteeing me it would be delivered to my home the following day, it never was. The delivery driver never showed up for their scheduled pick up. I had to waste 2 hours of my little free time to drive to the airport, grab my bag, and drive back home due to incompetence all around. I have always had the worst experience with American Airlines, and would refuse to fly with them--but I am military and am forced to due to fare and contract. I would like to speak with someone about options for reimbursement or some form of compensation. DO NOT JUST SEND ME A VOUCHER, I wish to discuss other options. Thank you. read more

A one star rating is very modest for what I consider to be the worst of all major Airlines. I swear the goal of American Airlines is to make your experience as inconvenient as possible. We're talking about an Airline that's been around a long time and still can't get it together. They will make minor or major changes to your flight months in advance with no good reason. AA will nickel and dime you and not take responsibility for dropping the ball. Their website is not user friendly at all, they will put you on hold for a lifetime or give you the option to call you back in 2-4 hours, which is insane. Its almost like they make it inconvenient on purpose. If I cancel a flight and wish to use that flight credit towards another flight, why cant I re-book with my credit on their site? They much rather you go thru the aggravation of calling reservations and have them do it for you. Their hope is obviously for the customer to get fed up from being on hold that they'll just come out of Pocket and take the hit. In the end the customer is the least of their priorities. I could go on a rant for hours but I would just be echoing all the other one star reviews here on Yelp. read more

Never in a million years would I think I'd be dealing with such a situation in 2021. I was planning to fly home via AMERICAN AIRLINES from Pensacola Florida to Las Guardia New York on June 9th 2021 @3pm via flight number 4542. Departing at 3pm from PENS to NY. To be on a fully seated airplane doors closed and ready for departure to hear the following words "we must deplane the aircraft due to weather." Totally acceptable safety before anything, we're all at the waiting waiting just watching the screen turn from 3pm into 4:30 pm followed to 5:30pm to a vocal message stating the flight will not leave until 7:30pm a this point everyone is upset as the weather had cleared in Philly and no danger presented to new York. They refused to update the 7:30pm info on the screen or text message; they had made a verbal statement instead with the new time. The counter person excuse was that she had no control over any screens or messaging. There is nothing worse than feeling like you're being held against your will and no information is provided other than to be back tomorrow at the same time , same flight 4542 at 3pm going to la Guardia. Now today June 10th, 2021 flight 4542 once again boarded the plane fully at 3pm when the announcer tells us once again we must deplane due to the pilot "timing out." Everyone deplanes the aircraft with no information given except to wait around until further notice. Everyone feels like they're being held against their will with no information, we all watched the screens go from 3pm to 4:30pm, 5:30pm to 7;30 pm to then a cancelled flight. No information was given. They tried to state it was due to weather but someone yelled out it's perfectly clear to New York and they took the weather radar off the screens. To then tell us they can't make any accommodations because the pilot is over his hours and the next flight will be Saturday. ARE YOU SERIOUS WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET HOME SINCE YESTERDAY AMERICAN AIRLINES PLEASE STOP SELLING FLIGHTS IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE!! I've never felt so violated of my time before! This is day two of me trying to go home my daughter who got a leg injury I am not from Pensacola I just want to get home to my daughter and my job in which I have been absent two days now due to AMERICAN AIRLINES SCHEDULING INCONVENIENCE WITH PILOTS, this is complete violation to everyone's time on this flight this is work week hours! read more

I have had issues just about every time I have flown American Airlines. The attendants are rude, flights are usually delayed and on my most recent trip, they made me check my carry on due to limited overhead bin room and then broke my new suitcase. I brought the damaged hard side suitcase to the baggage assistance counter and was told to file a claim online. I filed a claim online and was almost instantly denied for "normal wear and tear". I requested a second review since the wheel was snapped off and clear damage to the suitcase and they tell me to return to the airport to have the baggage attendant evaluate it. They denied it again. I will never fly American Airlines. They have the worst customer service. read more

. . Hey frinds and family..... American Airlines They we're so helpful... That we are NOT going on vacation, less than nine hours before we were scheduled to leave they cancelled our flight, due to weather. No problem!! The weather is not in their control. However !!! My other half and I contacted American Airlines immediately to check on how we would be flying out. The response we received was devastating!! The first representative we encountered over the phone told us their is nothing they could due but get us another flight three days from now. Over hearing me in the background saying I'm not sure I could take additional time from work. The American Airlines representative hung up on us. So we contacted them for the second time. This new representative, thanked us for calling after being on hold for two hours and let us know we could TRY to obtain a refund, not offering other arrangements at all. So I decided to go to the airport and plead my case. The airport American Airlines ticket counter assistant told me there is nothing she could do for me and to call the American Airline phone (customer service) again. Please to everybody out there wanting to get away to have a good time, travel for business trips, or needing urgent travel for any reason.... WITH ALL MY HEART I STRONGLY SUGGEST TO NOT FLY American Airlines!!!!!! One star is generous. EVERY time we fly American it's significantly late, 45 mins plus. Today, the first leg is almost 1.5 hours late. We fly often. This never happens with Alaska and rarely with delta. But American, really pathetic and unacceptable service. Maybe you'all need to spend some time with your competitors and see how to things are done. Called Tickets and Reservations to check on my AA tickets that I couldn't print after making my reservation(s) for the Thanksgiving Holidays. Could not get them to print. The individual who answered the PNS phone number told me that they do reservations only and that I needed to call the company (no phone number given) ??? Said to go online, which is a Terrible site that doesn't always work properly Sn is not user friendly. Cancelling my tickets and finding another responsible and more user friendly airline. read more

Absolutely terrible. Flew to Miami and then London. Worst food and the most uncomfortable ride possible. Today I flew back and it was just as bad. Ran out of food choices two rows in front of me. Jerk Chicken or curry chickpeas. Terrible choices. By my turn she dumped the chickpeas in front of me with no attempt at an explanation. Three hours later later bbq Chicken wrap or humous wrap. Ran out of bbq and dumped the veg option with no explanation either. If you fly American take a sandwich. read more

This company diverted our flight to Florida when it was supposed to be going to Baton Rouge! It circled around BTR and claimed to be running out of gas and next thing you know they announced were going to Pensacola. However, the airport closes at 6pm and we landed at about 9:30 pm. So naturally we were unable to get off the aircraft and to keep sitting there while they made pointless updates every hour. Main thing to remember here is....you get what you pay for. Never again will I deal with this airline. Delta and Southwest are definitely the better companies. At least they have pleasant stewardess to soothe you. A lot of the flight attendants for American Airlines had very sarcastic comments to say to the passengers. They act like it's not normal to inquire about the departure of your diverted flight. read more

Disappointed in American Airlines 1. On 7/6/19 flight out of Pensacola delayed ....mechanical issues...ok Missed connecting flight out of Charlotte to St Maarten. 2. AA put us up in a 2 star hotel in Charlotte with food vouchers even though we were paying for a condo on the beach on the Island of St. Maarten. 3. Next day, loaded on first plane, mechanical issues ...flight delayed ! 4. After waiting, got off the plane to wait for another plane.... Left the gate...wait, more mechanical issues....back to gate to unload .....and wait 5.Finally on a plane that will fly ! Arrived in St Maarten 30 hours later than originally scheduled ! Evidently AA doesn't have a preventive maintenance plan on their planes ! 3 out of 4 planes had issues ! That's not a good record ! 6. Got to Miami International . Smooth sailing thru customs, TSA.....dropped 3 bags of luggage to be loaded on our flight back to Pensacola....get to Pensacola with 2 of the 3 bags....the bag with our CPAP machines didn't make it ! An employee of AA asked why I didn't carry my CPAP machines on with me. I told her I guess I'm too trusting that a company would do the job they're suppose to ! When your 4-hour flight from Phoenix, AZ to Pensacola, FL via American Airlines, turns into a 26-hour ordeal, 2 cancelled flights, delays and they have lost all your luggage. They offer no explanation, apologies or compensation. What else can you do but smile... Their customer service is extremely poor. They cause huge inconvenience and unexpected expenses to their customers. If that were not bad enough, they give you grief when filing a claim for all the money you spent for your lost hotel stay at your destination, clothing and toiletries you were required to buy. New to flying but paid for first class ticket to make an easier less stressful flight but they don't bother to tell you there is NO first class seating even though you pay more for a ticket. That sucked and not only did we not get annything special for the extra money. The girl said rudely to me "YOU HAVE TO PUT YOUR PURSE IN THE OVERHEAD AS SHE PROCEEDED TO GRAB IT FROM MY SIDE (SMALL AS IT WAS) and put it 2 rolls behind me. I was shocked. If I have to put my personal purse with my CASH, Credit-cards, drivers license Social Security cards etc. over someone else that I am not even aloud to keep a eye on than I feel all the men's wallets should be thrown up there too!!!!! Discriminators!!!!!! The assign seats should have the overheads assigned with the seat over it. cheep bantereds can't even read the letters to find your assigned seat and they never said when we were allowed to move about the cabin so I thought we couldn't seems I was only in first seat and could not see if anyone was up and moving. Also they announce you can have alcohol if you pay for it on a credit card but don't let you know being first class it's free so no drink for me because all my money was over someone else's head. Very angry with this airline. Also the attendant served snacks to the two men on either side of me then went away and came back to serve me.
