I called looking for a skilled arborist to diagnose my 30-year old Chinese Pistache which suddenly is wilting and dying off. We discussed the symptoms and changes to the landscaping that might be causing it. He requested that I send several pictures of the tree to assist him. I contacted American Arbor because I was concerned about the health of one of my trees, I was interested in getting a couple trees trimmed, and I wanted to get advice on relocating a tree. Matthew replied very quickly. I was surprised because it was Saturday morning and I hadn't expected a reply so promptly. Not only did he reply, we asked me to call him, which I did. After explaining my concerns about the tree I was thinking might not be healthy, discussing the trimming, and getting advice on the relocation, I sent photos of my trees. Matthew looked at them and gave me advice over the phone. By the way, it turns out trimming the two trees I wanted to be trimmed wasn't a good idea. The bottom line: Matthew could have set up an appointment and charged me for it. Instead, he gave me good advice over the phone for free...on a Saturday morning. I am very grateful for the advice. Did a great job taking out two trees in a very small backyard. Did a wonderful job shaping a tree that I wanted to keep that had not been trimmed for the past 18 years. I admire the look of it daily. When our 15-year-old red maple tree started dying in the top center, we needed advice on what the issue was (after checking on water supply, damage, etc). Per recommendation of a neighbor, Matt, instead of coming out and having to charge a fee, identified the probable cause over the phone based on pictures of the tree and a conversation about the conditions and location - verticillium wilt. We have worked with Matthew Moore for about ten years. He is a well-studied arborist who works to maintain the health of our trees. His horticultural knowledge comes into play when he advises us on our various trees. We have a mammoth Fruitless Mulberry which covers our front yard. Matthew and his son Michael do the necessary shaping and pruning to direct the growth. He has worked on our Red Birch tree and Ash trees. He knows how to keep trees healthy and looking great. I called American Arbor about my Magnolia Tree that was suffering. They told me all about my type of tree, it's possible problems, asked for pictures of the tree. So I sent some far view and close up. They got back to me within minutes with advice to hopefully fix the problem. I appreciated the advice very much and look forward to hopefully saving my tree. Fertilizer and better water management were recommended and seem to make sense because we replaced the lawn around the tree with drought resistant plants. read more

We contacted American Arbor to get an estimate for removing a medium sized tree (11 inch diameter at base) and trimming a few others. Mathew Moore, the owner, came out and said he would work up an estimate. Except for saying a full day of work would cost $2,350, he did not give an estimate for our job. Over the next two weeks, we called more than once but each time he apologized and said he would get to it soon. Then he called and said he was bringing his son and another young man to do the job. He left them to do the work. The two were pleasant and did a good job of removing the tree in the first two hours. They trimmed for the next 3 hours. In their final hour, they did a less than complete cleaning up of the trimmings. They left at 1 PM. When Mathew presented a bill a week later for $2,500, we were amazed and disappointed. It was a lesson to insist on a written contract with this company. read more
