Chuck came out to bid on tree trimming service. He was decently responsive and punctual, but was far more interested in pitching their landscaping services than talking about the trees. I don't need 10 minutes of commentary on how dead and awful my backyard looks. Xeriscaping is likely in our future, but not this year and definitely not with this company. Danny came out within a couple of days to review and give us an estimate. Little Lower than the other two..but that is not why we chose American Arbors. We had decided last year to try them out. This year, they did a great job again. They cut low hanging limbs and cut dead limbs off the palm trees, cut back the many Rosemary bushes and wild rose bushes, cut limbs of trees away from the roof line, and cut other shrubs back. They cleaned up of all the weeds on our walkways around our home that needed refreshed with crushed granite and they look fantastic. Looks like a new yard and for a very fair price. They were there all day with 8 yards of crushed granite applied over the old. All the weeds are gone. Thank you American Arbors! read more

He said he would get back to me and I never heard from him again. The workmanship of the American Arbors Crew is questionable. They did arrive on time. They did accomplish two of the four major tasks but in so doing they damaged my property. They broke some landscape lighting, damaged the low voltage transformer, damaged my coax connection and damaged my masonry pillars. Plus some of their equipment did not wok yet Danny was pitching for additional work. Not so much!!! Never again. read more

Devin came out to give a quote and gave me a pretty good quote. When I got a quote that was better I advised them I would be going with the other quote he quickly knocked off $200. The other contractor was unable to provide proof of liability insurance so I called Devin and scheduled. He came out to remove 2 huge (dead) oak trees with one very small trailer. I stressed my concern about him having sufficient room to remove all of the debris and he quickly reassured me he would have it all completed that day. Well over 1 month later I still have half an oak tree laying in my front yard. We have called numerous times to have them remove the remaining tree limbs and never received a call back. In fact, when my husband called from a different number and Devin heard who it was he quickly hung up on him. My husband since called Danny the owner to get some resolve to the matter and he convinced us he would take care of the problem. That has been several weeks and a number of additional phone calls with no return call. Bad bad customer service and I would never recommend them to anyone! We had a mixed experience with American Arbors. Overall we are pleased with the result, especially with our project lead, David, but, as is always the case, the true test of a company is how they handle problems when they inevitably occur. In our judgment Chuck failed this test so we would not recommend his company. We did a relatively large-scale project for a new home, which included sod, hardscapes, Xeriscaping, decorative trees, shrubs and other plantings. A key part of our landscape design was a large dry riverbed bordered with crushed granite. Our home is situated in a hilly area of Austin and, as it turns out, the implementation of the dry riverbed design didn't turn out very well due to rapid crushed granite erosion which resulted in more or less permanent "washed out" areas. Despite having completed the project in early summer we have had to remediate these blighted areas several times (which is very labor intensive!) so it is obvious that an alternative solution is needed. We communicated to Chuck that we would not have chosen this design knowing this would be the result. Having shown this to Chuck, once in person and once when he came to my home without my presence, the most productive response I got was the comment "Water will make you a liar" combined with accusations that I obviously considered myself a landscaper (because I had some ideas about possible solutions). While the former is certainly folksy, it is not a solution. The latter comment illustrates his unprofessional, combative style, which we experienced on several occasions throughout our project. I'm not sure what the solution is but Chuck is unwilling to find one so I will have to resort to hiring an alternative landscaping company who can finish the job. Chuck, David and his crew did what at first seemed like a good job at a good price. Then it started raining, and the decomposed granite hardscaping washed away in about 20 places. On a project that involved some stone walls over four feet high, that's a fairly small problem, but I had hoped for better. I feel they should have known that would happen, and should be willing to fix it. After many contacts, Chuck sent a small crew back and they spent about 30 minutes shoveling the gravel back where it belonged. Unfortunately it rained again, and undid their work. After one more e-mail, Chuck just ignored my attempts to contact him. Since a number of aspects of the job went well, I gave them two stars instead of one. UPDATE. They finally contacted me, and then sent a crew out to fix the problems. I agreed to pay for materials, but their crew of three men spent about a half a day at no additional charge making the repairs. They did a good job, and I think it will withstand the rain this time. I'm increasing their rating to 4 stars. I cannot justify 5 stars because of the communication problems and because I paid several hundred dollars for the materials to do the repair. read more
