Thrasher Construction - New redwood deck across entire front of the house.

Several…read moreyears ago, Scott and his team replaced one of those two side sections, replaced some rotted boards on the main deck and repaired some issues with the substructure. So, we knew who to call when we made the decision to replace the main deck and the other side section entirely - no more "patching up". Our experience with Thrasher Construction, on that previous project, was so good, we didn't bother to get a competitive quote. We trust him implicitly to be fair and complete, right up front. From demolition thru completion Scott and his team worked steadily, finishing the job in two weeks. We couldn't be happier with the results. The entire deck is now properly built (as opposed to the way the original contractor had done it) and promises to be very long lasting. Also, before -- the railing structure had become "wiggly" (for lack of a better word). Now, the railing posts are so firmly bolted into place, we are sure it could withstand any challenge humans or Mother Nature has to offer. Tom and Virginia Newcastle (Ophir)

Condor Builders - Complete Kitchen Remodel

My husband and I purchased an older home that had undergone some recent updates, but we had a…read morelarger vision for the space. Our primary goals were new flooring throughout the home and a complete kitchen remodel. Since we were new to the area, I began researching contractors in the Sacramento region. I also received a recommendation from a friend for a local contractor, so we ultimately obtained estimates from both Condor and a smaller local company. When Tal Pinto arrived for our initial consultation, we walked through the house and discussed our ideas. I had a very specific vision for the kitchen, including painting all of the existing cabinetry. Rather than simply agreeing to the project, Tal took the time to evaluate the cabinets and explained that they were already extremely high quality. He told me that if they were his cabinets, he would leave them exactly as they were. That level of honesty immediately stood out to me. Instead of trying to sell us on unnecessary work, he provided thoughtful, professional advice that was genuinely in our best interest. From that moment on, I had a great feeling about Condor. When we received our estimate, it was one of the most detailed and organized proposals I had ever seen. Every aspect of the project was clearly outlined, including labor, scope of work, and material allowances. There were no surprises and no confusion--just a transparent and professional plan. Once we signed the contract, the process moved forward seamlessly. Tal provided recommendations for flooring and paint suppliers, but when we ultimately found a flooring company we preferred, he had no problem working with them. His flexibility and willingness to accommodate our preferences made the process even easier. At the time of the renovation, my husband and I were still living in Southern California, which meant we could not be on-site during construction. This could have been stressful, but Condor made it incredibly easy. Tal provided regular updates, photos, and progress reports throughout the project. When Paz stepped in to oversee the job while Tal was out of town, the communication never skipped a beat. We always knew exactly what was happening and where the project stood. As with many remodels, we encountered a few unexpected issues along the way, including cracked ceilings and a significant water leak in the master bathroom. Rather than becoming obstacles, these issues were addressed quickly and professionally. The team was proactive, solution-oriented, and committed to keeping the project moving forward. The quality of the finished work exceeded our expectations. Every detail was completed with care and craftsmanship, and the transformation of our home has been incredible. The kitchen is now my favorite room in the house, and the before-and-after photos speak for themselves. What truly sets Condor apart is the combination of exceptional workmanship, outstanding communication, organization, and integrity. Throughout the entire process, we felt informed, respected, and confident that our home was in good hands. I would wholeheartedly recommend Condor to anyone considering a remodel or renovation project. Finding a contractor you can trust is invaluable, and our experience with Condor was outstanding from start to finish.

Cutter Construction - Water damage to cabinets due to a hose that was left disconnected from laundry sink behind washer/dryer

The contract was very vague which left a lot open to interpretation down the road when things started getting rocky. Our main issue was that the job took 18 weeks when it was originally estimated at 6-8 weeks. There were several concerning issues with workmanship, primarily Rick did not seem to have the appropriate level of expertise to competently complete the electrical work. We hired our own subcontractor to run a sub panel for the HVAC system and while they were there they identified a number of issues with Rick's electrical work. Rick also elected to install countertops himself instead of subbing it out and we ended up with a very ugly seam that ended up cracking a few weeks after he installed it. He also left a hole in the side of the house (eventually supposed to be a cat door) throughout the winter while he was working on the remodel, which let weather damage into the walls. Some of the interior drywall had to be redone as a result and even after the cat door was "complete" the weather proofing was dubious at best. Rick demanded final payment before all work was complete and then accused us of refusing to pay him. Save yourself the headache and go with someone more reliable and competent.

He couldn't make plumb walls, he couldn't get painting right, we had plumbing issues of disconnected hoses and improperly installed water heater, electrical issues, broken cabinets, and The real heartbreaker was the quartz countertop we paid $1200 for and he botched the install on that too, so bad the seam came apart just a few weeks later. He bills himself as a professional contractor, but he's a poor excuse for a handyman if you ask me, and that's on his best day. Hire at your own risk
