American Bullion told me I had to buy "proof" coins to move my money from the IRA to precious metals IRA. Don't fall for that, it is not true. Gold and Silver bars qualify and you will not get "taken" during the purchase. They may do well with proofs, but that is not what you want in a portfolio. Coins are not flexible and they cannot be converted without penalty. Do your research first!!! read more

I have done business with this firm before. Previously, their commissions and fees were in line with their promises before, during and after the transaction. During a more recent transaction, the price per ounce fees were 10 percent when the fees previously were 1 percent and quoted as same this time. When questioned, suddenly my broaker who was most interested in gaining my trust was no longer available... I am in the third iteration of a purchase order for the sale and have nothing but questions as to where my hard earned investment monies are and what amount is now under my control. Sadly, I am ill and need to withdraw the funds prematurely to pay medical bills. I felt that I had found a partner I could trust. If I could give them a NO STARS, I would! I bought gold and silver coins 4 years ago from them - and they decided I should have some graded American Eagles coins too... NOT MY DECISION! They charged me 3 times as much for those coins as for the American Eagles which weren't graded. When I asked for a price for them, the price they quoted to buy them back was $2 over spot for the silver, a difference of at least $52. The worst part of the latest call was how they blew me off, saying they had customers....I WAS a customer too! When they saw this review they called over and over.....they are now changing the price to buy them, but I have found a much more honest broker to use. I transferred one of my IRA accounts to Gold IRA a couple of weeks ago (through American Bullion). Transfer was smooth and they pretty much handled everything for me. I can already see my coins online on my new custodian's website. I realize that I could buy some of coins a little cheaper but didn't want to deal with the hassle of transferring an IRA. Buyer Beware! I originally set up a Gold IRA with American Bullion in 2014 (when the price of spot gold was roughly $1,250 an ounce). I was told by the rep (Finis Cole) that proof set coins are roughly hold a 55% greater value than spot gold; and I take notes so I have proof. Thus, I moved $75,000 out of my stock IRA to invest in gold. With the recent rise in spot gold, I decided to sell the gold and was expecting to make a profit (considering the current spot gold price is roughly $1,950 or approx. a 56% increase) in the $35K-$40K range. Boy was I wrong. I received my liquidation offer and it reflected $72,000. Thus, over the course of 6 years my investment in gold bullion decreased yet the price of spot gold increased. As you can imagine, I was beyond upset and without doubt bamboozled by this company. It was explained that the demand for the gold bullion has decreased; in short, I was be paid spot price when selling but paid a hefty premium when purchasing. It is also important to note that during the course of these 6+ years, I also had to pay an annual recurring gold storage depository fee of $175 (or $1,225 in total); subtract that cost and my overall loss was ~5.6% (not including opportunity cost by not being able to invest in other opportunities). Everyone involved (but me) was making money. I have no gain in posting this review; as they say "you live and learn". If the name of the rep really matters, pull the call and verify. How hard is it to make up a name on the phone? How hard is it to pull a call? I suspect you don't want to know the truth. The process was very smooth except for my 401k company dropped the ball to execute some paperwork which delayed my purchase. I purchased some precious metals from this company to the tune of $60K about 2 1/2 years ago. The salespeople are very slick and provide a wonderful outlook for your future and your smart decision to make this purchase. Today, I found the need to liquidate this purchase and found that my purchase (investment) had been reduced to $34K. I was seriously shortchanged by American Bullion when I needed them to convert my gold back to needed cash and send a check to Self=Directed IRA Services. The amount of the check was nearly 4 thousand dollars----from a gold account that was valued at some 17000 dollars. What happened to that money? Also they were evasive in letting me know what the gold in my account wasworth or how they arrived at the amount of the check. Initially I turned the roughly 50 thousand in my traditional IRA to SDIRA, which in turn allotted to American Bullion.
