I was told that I needed 4 crowns replaced, at a cost of about $4000 after insurance. I had one done, even though it wasn't bothering me. I have since seen 3 other dentists who told me that I don't need to replace my remaining crowns. Now I strongly suspect that I never needed to replace any of my crowns and that this is just a big scam. I will never go here again. read more

Front desk was very polite and the atmosphere was warming. Coming back in 6 months for another cleaning and would recommend anybody. I left American Dental after 20+ years of going there, I've seen many doctors hygienist and front desk come and go, there's a big revolving door, didn't really wanna go but when I see that I see an internal problem, different hygienist every time I went for a cleaning, time to move on. read more

I've only been able to get one appointment in the past two years. They keep cancelling day-of, and then don't have availability for 2-3 months. They said it was due to staffing turnover, which tells me it's probably a terrible place for workers as well as patients. read more

It's taken me a long time thinking about my experience to write this review. I had a terrible experience at this place- a badly done crown that caused awful pain over about 5 weeks. and years later the tooth still bothers me. I was told I needed two fillings also... but after the crown experience I realized this was not a good dentist. I went elsewhere where I was told I did not need any fillings, and that the crown wasn't done well but would hold up for now. My current dentist makes sure he causes as least pain possible. Some time ago, I was denied service because I wouldn't wear a face diaper while I walked 5 feet down the hallway to my dental chair, where the dentist would ultimately have his hands in my mouth. Now that we all know how ridiculous that was, in light of the fact that masks don't work, I'm quite sure this establishment no longer enforces this silly little rule. So I just want to say to the less than lovely receptionist who couldn't explain why a mask was necessary... I TOLD YOU! I told you then how ridiculous you were being and you argued with me. American Dental Care put in two crowns that were so poorly done that one of them had to be replaced and the second might need to be as well. According to my long-time dentist in NY, the crown was so badly fitted - not contoured to gumline, no "margin" as they say - that it was irritating my gum, which is why I couldn't tolerate hot or cold temperatures months after the work was done. (American Dental wasn't very responsive when I'd raised this to them 2 months after the crowns were put in). Serves me right for picking a dentist from a Google search. I wrote to them informing them that the work needs to be redone and they didn't even give me the courtesy of a response. Very poor service. read more

The dental procedure was satisfactory, the doctor & assistants were all cordial and professional. I would though, SERIOUSLY discuss the estimate cost of the procedure with the manager and definitely put it in writing. The quote given to me was several hundreds of dollars different than the original quote, when I paid the final bill. Initially I was told that my insurance didn't cover it, therefore the large increase. The initial paperwork I received, had no breakdown of procedures, just the several hundred dollar increase...Other than that problem, the dental work was well done. read more

I've been going to American Dental for 5 years now. About a year ago, administration changed hands. My dentist (who is good at her job) is still there, but that doesn't make up for the company's carelessness and inefficiencies. At the minor end, it took me literally 15 mins to cancel an appointment after a neverending string of questions about my identity. At the more serious end, already three times this year they have tried to charge me twice for an expensive procedure that I had already paid for. If I had assumed they were correct and not taken the trouble to prove they weren't, I would have been out another several thousand dollars. As soon as my current series of appointments for a complicated implant are over, I'm finding myself a new dentistry. I do not trust these people one bit. read more

This was the first time I ever had a root canal which was unexpected cause I originally went in for a Surface Cavity. To the Dentist's surprise and mine, the cavity was deeper than expected and I felt nothing during the procedure. My final appointment was today, March 27th, 2019 and I had some fun when they were putting my crown in. The floss was snapping on the assistant and then on the Dentist so, like a wise guy, I asked them if this would not be useful for assassination attempt. They laughed and went about the procedure. Went in for a crown and ended up with a bad sinusitis infection. Very bad dentists and insane prices. Plus they have no bedside manners. The dentist didn't even know I had a bad infection and was seen by someone else in her practice. Just don't go here and save yourself all the pain. There are better dentists out there. if I could give 0 stars I would. Do not go to this dentist. I was told I needed two crowns. When I got to the appointment AFTER they numbed me up they decided I needed another procedure which my insurance company did not cover so that added over $700 to my bill and they wouldn't do my crowns unless I had this procedure. I stupidly paid and got the crowns. I paid my copay and the money for that procedure both of which were well over $1,500. Ok fine whatever. I learn that my insurance isn't going to pay anything for the crowns and I owe an extra $623 because the crowns were not medically necessary. Then the price that I owed went up to $700 something and peggy (the receptionist I think that's her name) tried to bully me into paying the whole amount right on the phone. I declined and said I would pay $100 a week and she gave me the worst attitude about it. So turns out they never appealed to the insurance company and Peggy TOLD me my insurance doesn't even pay for more than 1 crown. so why did they insist I get 2?!?! They do unnecessary procedures and bully you to pay. I will never step foot in this place again and I suggest you stay far away. read more

I have had many good cleaning and was happy with them. I then needed a new crown and was given a written price and verbal explanation of work needed. I came to the appointment had novocaine and gas, then was presented with a new bill for an additional $600. They said they had forgot to include work in the price which the doctor told me I would be receiving. Very unprofessional, now my trust is broken. It is not my job to make sure the price is correct. Saw Dr. Benner aboout getting dental implants. I had a CT scan of my teeth and Dr. Benner said I needed to see an Eye, Nose, Throat Specialist to look at my sinuses before proceeding. The receptionist at American Dental stated they did not have the capability to put this CT scan on a CD, which is what my ENT specialist needed. Not sure I want to get dental implants from a place that can't even put x-rays on a CD. read more

I have only had great experiences at American Dental Care !! Hygiene is at the top of my list, I am set up with the same hygienist each visit. She takes dental care seriously and has a great personality that makes the cleaning process fly by. They provide excellent dental care also, last year I received my first dental implant. The dentist set clear expectations on the whole process (takes a few visits across months). The implant is doing so well sometimes its hard to remember which one it is. read more

My family and I are so pleased we have changed dental practices to American dental. The office is clean and inviting. The front desk staff are knowledgeable, helpful and sweet. I have always been able to schedule an appointment any day anytime and when an emergency happened they scheduled me right in. The dental hygienists and doctors are very professional, gentle and and makes it for a pleasant visit. My dentist's office is getting 4 stars because the dentists and hygienists are friendly and FAST. They make sure you get the same hygienist for each visit, and maybe mine is just awesome, but she remembers all sorts of details about my life and really acts like she cares! (She must have a cheat sheet.) The dentists are friendly, but don't stick around long. It's the hygienists' show. And they are so, so fast. I can schedule my regular check-ups for 7:45 and still be at work by 8:30 (including wait time and a 15 minute drive). On one occasion, I had to get some work done, and even though it turned out to be more work than anticipated, I was still out of there in a jiffy. My only complaint is that the desk staff is dismissive and sometimes-- usually-- rude. But I put more importance on the mouth service, which is why I only deducted one star instead of two. read more

Hate this place! The first time I came here for an appointment, the hygienist didn't bother to clean my teeth, which was ridiculous. They took a bunch of X-rays and told me I needed 2 cavities filled and gum surgery...I've never had a cavity in my life or gum issues. I went to my regular dentist, Dr. Riesenberger, and SURPRISE, my teeth were fine; I didn't need any work done. They overcharge you all the time and the doctors aren't good. Stay away! read more

Pretty spot on reviews. I went to this place a several years ago when my insurance changed when I got a new job. I've never had any problems with my teeth. All the sudden I come here and bam I need a root canal. Then my root canal gets infected so it needed to get pulled then bam I need another root canal. It was next to the tooth that was pulled so they did a bridge. I spend over 6 thousand dollars on my right side of my mouth. I'm sure this could have all been prevented if I just picked a different dentist. Also I was there a few years ago right before I switched dentists and they said I had 3 cavities. I never made an appointment to get them fixed. I got a different dentist and never had issues since. I never had any cavities even thought American Dental Said i did. Just want your money. American Dental would not clean my teeth without unnecessary and costly x-rays. When I first went to American Dental 12 months ago I had a full set of x-rays done at American Dental as well as had my teeth cleaned. After 6 months I returned for another cleaning. But upon my 3d visit, 6 months later the dentist refused to examine my teeth without another set of x-rays. Since the first series of x-rays did not show any cavities and I was not having any problems with my teeth I questioned whether another set of x-rays was necessary. I was concerned regarding the possible cumulative effect of x-rays to my health. American Dental indicated that it was their policy to require an annual x-ray of my teeth. They then said that if I did not have the x-rays done they would not clean my teeth. It would appear that American Dental is more concerned about their income than their patients. read more

If I could give this office a negative number I would. -5 Let me share my experiences of 1 issue with the office: I went to the office in September 2017 because my back tooth was bothering me. After extensive x-rays (during this time the dentist was bouncing around to multiple patients) the dentist came over and told me I needed a crown. I explained that I needed to know how much it is going to cost because I didn't have dental insurance. (They have a bizarre practice of not taking coverage information at check-in) She left with the information that I've gave her and came back with a paper that had my costs on it... I said to the dentist... this is what I owe? She said yes. I said this is really all that I owe? She said yes and pointed to the amount on the paper. I said if you are sure then I'll get it. I went back in 3 weeks for the permanent crown... as I was waiting for the dentist, I see her very busy working on multiple patients again. The dentist popped over put the crown on... and goes off to another patient. Before I leave I explain the crown is uncomfortable and is pressure sensitive. I'm told it will get better and to call if it doesn't. I leave and later that afternoon the crown comes off. I called to go back in to have it put back on and am given 1 time on Thursday (next day) and then not until Monday. I explained that I couldn't come in at the time given as I had a meeting I couldn't get out of. I wasn't given any other options and told to do it myself. I asked how to do that and was told you can purchase stuff at the pharmacy. I later related the story to 2 other people that each work for different dental offices and they were outraged that my dental office wasn't more accommodating. I got the crown on and it stayed on until November. I called for an appointment to have the crown replaced and am able to get in the next day. This time the dentist throws the crown in my mouth along with a cotton stick and tells me to bite down... but it wasn't even on my tooth. She looked at it again, put a little more care into it and again am told to bite down. After a period of time a new dentist came over and took out the cotton and was scraping the excess glue from around the crown when it came off again. The new dentist took the time to actually put it on correctly and explained that I have a lot of saliva and the area needed to be dried more. I left and at the desk was told I had a balance because I didn't have dental insurance. I explained that I knew that I didn't have insurance and provided that information to the dentist and was given a rate that I paid. She didn't have any other details and said someone would get back to me and said I could leave. First, I found the entire experience extremely unprofessional. Second, I found the fact that information I provided to the dentist wasn't passed on when I asked for the cost information. I understand she (the dentist) was busy and I don't know if she went up for the cost info or sent someone up but in either case I told her I didn't have insurance but it doesn't seem to have been passed on to the people giving out the pricing. You have the patient in a vulnerable position so when you provide information to a representative of the office you trust they're passing it along to get you the correct info. Third, at no time when I checked in or left in November did anyone tell me there was going to be a fee for the visit. Whenever I had a crown put on before there was no charge. So imagine my surprise when I got an outrageous bill ($900+) for services that I already paid for believing I had been given the correct info and then they tacked on an additional charge for replacing the crown. I had a tooth bothering me so I went to American dental to have in checked out. I knew it was the second one from the back upper. I told Dr. Patel specifically which tooth was bothering me and pointed it out as he looked at it. He recommended a root canal and rescheduled me. When I went back I again told him it was the second one from the back, he agreed. When the Novocain wore off I discovered the last tooth was killed and not the one bothering me. When I went back to discuss why the wrong tooth was ruined, he said he was the professional and I didn't know what I was talking about. He then offered to fix the correct tooth for half price after charging me full price for the wrong tooth. Now I had to have two root canals when I only needed one. Select few of the doctors are very good, others not so much. I had a bad tooth that needed work done recently, I scheduled an appointment FOR that reason. When I got there they told me what I had already knew from before and instead worked on a crown on the opposite side that I had no intentions on fixing originally. the dentist that worked on me this day also did a cavity filling on the opposite side. When he administered the novocaine, it was horrid. Worst experience being administered this in my entire dental history. First off it was way too much for the procedure he was completing (he was only breaking the old crown) second off he hit my nerve countless times and felt the medicine squirting in my mouth, ew.. I was already very disappointed and I had to wait ANOTHER month for my root canal appointment because the main doctor was away. So I waited an entire month with half of my tooth for this appointment. When I had finally got to my appointment, my fault I showed up 15 minutes late because of how far I drive to get there. When I got there, the same gentleman who did my tooth the last time accused me of being over 30 minutes late and was being extremely rude telling me it was my fault I was over a half hour late so we cannot do anything to the tooth today. Because I was 15 minutes late when I would be sitting there for 15 minutes anyway. They were not budging about it one bit. Extremely poor customer service considering I've already been waiting for over a month with a cracked tooth just for this appointment to be turned down over 15 minutes of time. This dentist office is a 25 minute drive from me. I originally made this long drive (even with COUNTLESS quality dentists around my area) because it was worth it, but after such poor customer service and accusations of being more late than I was I have taken my credit and business elsewhere. Why can't I give 0 Stars! Never saw the same Dentist twice but the dental work was mediocre at best. It's the front counter people that are the problem. Overcharging - which is a shame because insurance send the patient the EOB's which clearly state how much you owe. When you call them out the billing manager doesn't call you back. Worst part is they are constantly trying to sell you something. From "Deep Cleaning" to other products that you just don't need and are not covered by insurance. I go here regularly for my dental work, and overall it's a great experience. They hygenists are great, it's just the billing office manager that showed me that they don't have any customer service when it comes the financial aspect of the service. Buyer beware of the whitenening system they use here. There is a groupon that you absolutely should not buy because they won't accept it. It was advertised for the Boost by Opalescence which according to the Opalescence website is done IN OFFICE. I called, and they said I could use it for the appointment I had already made, then that night called back again and said it was for the take home whitening. I tried to argue, but they would not accept it. I was told when I scheduled that the whitening is $350, but when I'm ready to do it, it was $550! They gave me a discount given the whole groupon issue down to $440. Looking back, I should've walked out, but I felt pressured because the person doing my teeth came in on her off day to do it. I would never stay again and pay that outrageous price given that EVERY in office groupon is $149. I would drive to Philly to have it done that much cheaper 100 times over. Also, when they do the whitening, it is extremely uncomfortable. They stretch your lips out super far and put the chemicals on. It was awful, and I've had my teeth whitened in office 2 other times. They didn't make me feel comfortable, and I'm not even happy with the results. $440 down the drain, and an extremely bad taste in my mouth when I even think about this dentist. read more

Avoid this dental service. Went there to have a chipped tooth repaired. They said it needed a crown. Went in to have the tooth repaired. As the dentist was grinding away on a tooth to prep it for a crown he indicated the tooth next to the one he was working on had a chip out of it. When I questioned it he double checked and realized he was working on the wrong tooth. The one he was working on had no issues. Ended up having to grown that tooth as well as the one that had the chip. Haven't gone back since. read more

By far the worst business I have ever come in contact with. Super rude staff and all they care about is charging ever fee they can even if the insurance co says no. My wife had some root canals at this place and they tried to charge an extra $300 in digital fabrication fees. Per Aetna, these are bogus fees and cannot be charged by this provider. I spoke to aetna and confirmed this prior to any work being performed. The rude staff (Debbie) offered my wife to have her crowns removed after they just installed them if we didnt pay the extra 300. They also charged a fee for gum lancing which too less than 2 minutes and they charged $850- Of course its a fee that aetna doesnt cover. Then, Debbie, refused to give back our credit card after we paid over $2k out of pocket. After 3 months had past with no credit, I called and spoke to Debbie, who refused to issue the credit and hung up on me. I was being super kind, polite and patient but they have given us no other option but to place a poor review, contact the better business bureau and the attorney generals office. For the last about 4 years, Alka Patel at American Dental Care has been doing my dental cleaning and other dental work. She recommended certain hygiene practices which have helped me get rid of my 25 years old gums inflammation and bleeding. I strongly recommend using the services of American Dental Care. read more

I had a disagreement with the office manager - nothing serious - just did not want her calling me all the time to remind me of appointments. Apparently she was insulted because when I went in for my 6-month cleaning, I was told that my account had been inactivated. I asked to speak to the owner and the gal at the front desk said that she did not have an address or phone number for the main office. Seriously immature behavior. Do not go to American Dental!!! Not only did they miss a cavity in my many exams which caused me to need a root canal they are rip off artists. They make you sign a pricing agreement while your already in the chair and then they over charge. Very expensive!!!!!!.
