I am extremely frustrated with the service--or complete lack thereof--provided today. During the initial pass, an American Disposal Service worker walked right past my trash bin while the truck was maneuvering. Because the truck was temporarily out of range, he simply left the trash sitting there. Moments later, the truck backed down the street and completely ignored my bin on its second pass. I contacted customer service twice regarding this oversight. Both times, I was explicitly assured that the driver was circling back to correct the mistake and empty the bin. It is now past 7:00 PM, and my full trash bin is still sitting out on the street. Missing a pickup due to a maneuvering issue is one thing, but being ignored on a second pass and then repeatedly misinformed by customer service is completely unacceptable. They pick up the trash when they are in the good mood, seriously. They saw me stranding in my front yard, and like "hey lady, we are not picking your trash. What are you going to do about it???" This company has the worst customer service I have ever seen for two weeks my trash don't get picked up I called each week and spoke to a customer service person they were rude and very unhelpful and apparently know nothing about the operation of the company I asked for a supervisor both times I was given to Dana both times she wasn't really over concerned about my situation and then on the second week she asked what color can I have so told her the same one y'all gave me years ago and then she says that normally the trash is in another color can which tells me that I should have been given the right can when this became there new policy it also let me know that there drivers are not being trained very well becouse on the outside of the can there is huge writing that they put on that is labeled trash she assured me that my trash would get picked up and that they would switch out the can on Thursday that was yesterday. I had to call in a third time and spoke to a rep about my bill becouse it had changed in price because I am being charged for yard waste and since I have a burn can and have never or would Inever being using this service and the customer service person just in there normal fashion said there is nothing to be done to hat is your new price I asked to speak to a supervisor she very smart mouthed said they are gonna tell you the same thing grunted then sent me to once Again Dana she was helpful and then said I am who you spoke to before and I just want to assure you that your trash will be picked up on Thursday and the can will also be switched out Thursday. Today is Friday and my blue empty trash can is still sitting on the curb so I called back asked for customer service got a rude representative and just plainly said I want the supervisor she said what's your address and issue I said I need to talk to a supervisor she said I need your info so I can get them to you so I told her she put me on hold for a very long time then got back on the phone to tell me that he the supervisor Mark would not talk to me he would have to research the problem and call me back I told that is inescapable and I wanted to talk to his boss or the operation supervisor she very rudely told me she doesn't have any of that info and said my supervisor will call you back then she hung up on me . I cannot believe this is how they treat there customers and as a manager myself I am very disappointed in this man Mark who wouldn't even get on the phone with me I have never let a customer leave my business upset or dissatisfied I have been in customer service for 29 years with the same company I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY SEARCH FOR ANYONE ELSE THEY GIVE LOUSY SERVICE AND HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. This company is absolutely infuriating. We are new to our neighborhood and immediately arranged for trash service, opting for American Disposal. I highly recommend you don't make the same mistake. We were informed that we could put our trash and recycling out starting on April 8, even though our bins would not be delivered until April 18. No problem, we thought. However, we were wrong. It was a problem--a huge problem. On our first day of service, April 8, 2025, they completely missed/forgot about our address and did not pick up our trash or recycling. I called as soon as I noticed that all of the neighbors' trash had been picked up. I was reassured that this was a mistake and that someone would be out either that evening or the next day. Of course, no one came out that evening. The truck arrived the next day, and the employee treated us horribly, as though we were a burden or inconvenience to his job duties for that day. We let it slide... Big surprise: here we are on our second pick-up day and our second supposed "day of service" with American Disposal, and they once again did not pick up our items. On May 8, I called multiple times and reached out via email; I did the same thing today. I called early this morning and was reassured that all of our items would be picked up, as we have paid for the service and they were aware that we had items that were not in bins yet because they had not delivered them. I was told we were on their route for service today, and they would be picking up our trash...NOPE! No one came...no one answered the phone even though they were "open," and no one responded despite my reminder and folllow-up calls. Although we secured our items well and I put large labels on them that read "American Disposal," they still drove right past and did not service our address. Even when I called them early in the morning to remind them that we have paid for the service, hoping they would uphold their end of the bargain, they still did not pick up our trash and recycling. It's by far the windiest day of the year, and I have had to situate the trash and recycling all throughout the day because they just won't pick it up.This has been nothing but an absolute nightmare. I have gone above and beyond my duties as a client to inform this company that I have paid them and have trash that needs to be picked up. I also really don't need some copy-and-paste reply from someone who claims to "work" at this company, stating that if I want to speak about my concerns, "I should give them a call". I've called more times than I can count, I've reached out via email, I've contacted them through their website, and I've spoken with actual people at the company. They refuse to pick up recycling in spite of reassurance from the customer representative(s). I called twice to confirm that recycling would be picked up and both times was assured that pickup would be handled. However, it would seem as if they just skipped right my house leaving me with a pile of boxes and full recycling bin that now has to wait yet another week. read more

Calling their office will get you a rude receptionist that straight up hangs up on you when you start explaining your situation. Go with any other company, this one is ridiculous. Worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with. You place yard waste out for collection on the day it is to be picked up in a bin clearly marked yard waste and it doesn't get collected for weeks when the schedule say every Tuesday. You notify the company through their website, they don't respond 4 out of 5 times. They even collect yard waste from your neighbors and leave yours sitting there. The don't dump the regular pail either. If you have small item in the bottom they just stay there. read more

I recently moved our commercial account to American Disposal. Terrible mistake. They miss pick up dates very regularly without concern. They are very fussy about what they will pickup. One of our tenants through out a small flat screen TV and they refused to pick up the trash container even though our maintenance man offered to take it out. CAN YOU FIGURE THAT OUT. No Service but you still have to pay them. On Tuesday at 10:00 pm, American Disposal sent an email saying they would pick up as usual for those with service on Wednesday. I was not planning on bringing my garbage out because of the storm and did not want to leave it out if they were not going to pick it up, but since I got the email, I did. So, at 10:30 at night, I brought my garbage and recycling out and shoveled more to make it easy for them to pick up. Today, I went to get my bins, and they had not picked them up. My recycling had tipped over, and I had to collect it all over the road. I called, and they said it was too bad and we would not offer any refund even though you are paying for a service we are not providing. I understand there was a storm, but I don't know why they would email me at 10:00 pm saying they were coming and then not pickup and just say, "Oh well." This is not the first time they have missed my pickup, and whenever I let them know, they do not care. I don't understand why I have to pay for weekly service when they do not pick up weekly. read more

Yard waste is especially inconsistent, even after they were notified that waste was not picked up. American picked up my yard waste one time in the last 5 weeks and I've called and left "missed pick up" notifications no less than six times...I notified them four times for the latest missed pick...no yard waste pick up for 3 weeks running. Former home owner's bulk trash, that was paid for, sat in front of my newly purchased home for 3+ weeks. My realtor called them every day to get them to pick up the bulk trash...they eventually told him that they had to hire a third party to pick up. I don't really have sympathy. They broke my trash can within the first month of service. I submitted a request online to have it swapped and they scheduled me for a week and a half out. Day comes and they don't show up. I call and they tell me the truck broke down and they will be coming the next day. Next day comes and once again they don't show up. I call and they lie and tell me I didn't have the can out (literally been sitting there for days now). They then say I can't have it swapped now for almost two weeks. I went ahead and cancelled my service at that point and went with someone else. What an awful company. If they pull this within the first month I can't imagine how many more lies I would have to deal with over the years. Don't sign up for this company. read more

I have a small, but positive, update. After complaining to Fairfax County and the Better Business Bureau, I eventually received a refund of the $100 I was charged for the allegedly stolen trashcan. American Disposal claims that they have cameras on their trucks "for training purposes," and that the camera showed that my trashcan was returned to the curb in front of my house that morning (and then, apparently, stolen by that marauding band of trashcan thieves) but refused to show me, the county, or the BBB the tape to back up their complain. All I can say is that if all the other providers who service my neighborhood went out of business and American Disposal was the only option left, I'd sell my house and move rather than have to deal with them again. read more

As a resident of #MontclairVA - just went through my emails from American Disposal Services of VA from the summer of 2022...here are the days they said they would NOT be picking up yard waste at all: July 7, Aug 10, and Aug 23. Here are the days where they said there would be a delay (and still sometimes didn't come) to pick up yard waste: May 18, May 25, June 8, June 15, June 22, July 20, and July 28. I was told that I couldn't get a credit on my account, because I didn't call and report EACH incidence of their incompetence and lack of service. I was told that even on the weeks that they DIDN'T COME AT ALL - that they were "providing service the following week." I tried to argue that we had already paid for service the following week, not coming for a week is not providing service at all... and I was told that I was wrong because they are "picking up double the amount." I suggested that maybe they try paying a living wage and making their positions more competitive, as the labor shortage is their main excuse...and they told me that trash truck drivers make over $100,000 a year. (I doubt that is salary only, but maybe entire package...if that number is even correct. But, if true...that means that their trash truck drivers make more than me - and I have two Master's Degrees.) If you live in #MontclairVA we have no other option at this point, and this should be illegal. Rates are astronomical!! Zero explanation when rates are raised almost every quarter (or they blame it on gas prices even though they raise the rate each quarter when gas rates stay the same). Sometimes they come a day late for pick-up with no explanation. The new can "pick-up" system has destroyed the garbage cans so they are all cracked halfway down the side of the cans from being slammed to the ground from the mechanism. They can be late picking up trash but they will send you an email every day that you dont pay their bill. I wish we had better options. And now we have to pay for yard waste removal (another $12/month even if you dont use it) Effective April Fools day 2023 --- 155$ a quarter for TRASH pickup!!!!! read more

This company is back to its bad behaviors. I assume that after Haulin' Trash went belly up, they figured they didn't have to pick up trash anymore, either. Shame on Fairfax County for allowing this company to continue to operate. They have one job. And they cannot do it right. After years of complaints, the county put them on probation, but allowed them to cut back pickup to once per week. So, we got half the service without a corresponding discount. Changing trash companies is one option, but there are few competitors. In 2020, the company blamed the pandemic for missed pickups and erratic scehules. What is the current excuse? We've been American Disposal customers for 10+ years. We have rarely had our trash, recyclables and yard waste picked up on time. Covid did not bring about their current issues. They have been apologizing and promising to do better for a decade. It's unfortunate that our neighborhood is littered with garbage, recyclables and/or yard waste at any given time due to service issues. It really detracts from the beautiful setting of the area and prevents us from being able to use our receptacles since they are at the front of the driveway and usually already full. We used to have garbage pick up twice a week and agreed to have just one day of pickup a week for everything and they still can't meet their customer service commitments. The real kicker is to find out my neighbor pays $50 less for the same service! The county needs to get involved and fix this! read more

In my experience with ADS, whenever I call and speak to a rep their client interactions are polite and responsive (that's the only reason I am not giving just 1 star) We have scheduled a replacement / pickup for our recycling bin which it's base is shattered (probably by how ridiculously rough they throw the poor bins on the ground when handling them) So we scheduled the pickup 2 weeks in advance for a Friday. We left it out and had someone home all day. [no one came] Come the following Monday, I call ADS at 9:00 am and they tell me it had been actually rescheduled for that same day (but no one called me, or told me of this) so I run home to take the bin out again and called off and worked from home. [ once again no one shows up ] Come Tuesday, I call ADS again at 9:00am wanting to speak to a supervisor. The rep informs me that the truck was in my neighborhood that day but simply didn't stop at our place for a unknown reason. ADS then tells me that the supervisor will hopefully give me a call and try to expedite this for me but we're looking at probably another 2 week wait. Meanwhile our bin is almost unusable and our HOA does not allow trash to be left on the curb without a bin. Hopefully they improve their professionalism and accountability and provide a more dependable service soon. read more
