This was an ok Centurion Lounge. We went in at 6 am when they opened, hot food is not ready until 7 am but you can have cereal, coffee and fruit.

You can get into this lounge if you (1) have a business class international ticket and (2) have emerald status with a parter airline or qantas. My favorite things about this lounge include the food, service, and the fact that they make announcements when flights are boarding and will actually take you to the gate when the flight is ready to board. Many other lounges don't offer this white glove service which is what sets qantas apart. Thank you to the qantas team for always making long international flights a little bit easier!

Also got a 20 min complimentary back and shoulders massage at the adjoining spa. So nice and a great way to relax before a long international flight. We got to the lounge super early, 6:30am, so it was pretty empty. Service was excellent, breakfast menu was impressive and everything is flavorful and cooked perfectly. The bathroom and shower facilities are super clean and luxurious. Highly recommend you join the Qantas Frequent Flyer program if you travel a lot. The perks are unbelievable.

With the Singapore lounge under renovation and the Air New Zealand lounge closing around 11, the…read moreonly option for a Star Alliance Gold member is the United Club. Compared to all the United Clubs around the world, this one is surprisingly excellent. Sure the facilities aren't trendy, but who comes to oo and aah at the decor in a lounge? Not me. I come to drink and buffet on. The layout: It seems like a pretty dated lounge. Furniture is very simple, space is compact, and no fancy decorations. Typical of a lounge in the U.S. The entry door isn't automatic, so coming in with lots of carry-on luggage could become a struggle. The two room layout is nice if you want some peace and quiet. TVs all around and helpful service from the check-in ladies. The drinks: Standard selection of wine, liquor, and beer. Nothing too fancy, but enough to get one last taste of Australia before leaving. There's signs everywhere that say taking alcohol off the premises is strictly forbidden. The way I see it is if no one catches you, it didn't happen =P The food: Come in the early morning and youll have quiche, fruits, and some crackers. Come a little bit later in the afternoon and your assortment will exponentially increase. Sandwiches, wraps, soups, and other warm snack food will be plentiful. It's not a feast, but definitely a step up from the ordinary. There are some tasty desserts as well, such as passionfruit cheese cake. Overall, this was one of the best United Club experiences I've had. I'm sure Singapore's lounge is better, but we'll have to wait until they finish renovating it to try. Grab a Crown, some peanuts, and a few sandwiches and you're set.

Was here in the morning, food was ok but on the greasier side of things. Plenty of room and relaxed atmosphere. The decor reminded me a bit of the 90's, as evidenced by the floppy drives on the biz center computers. I was patiently waiting for Ross and Rachel to sit down next to me. Ok, mainly Rachel. The Singapore airlines Lounge, in my opinion, is a better option but it did close at 10 am. I also swung by the Air New Zealand lounge, but it was too crowded at the time and breakfast options were limited, so I decided to skip. In hind sight, it would probably be a better choice with the exception that they won't call your flight if you are flying UA. NZ also sports a billiards/foosball table fwiw. For those looking for connectivity, if you sit in the back if the United lounge, you can catch the Singapore Wifi network, which is not password protected and pretty solid. Alternatively, United do provide a Melbourne airport wifi access voucher, which I did not use. Long story short, not that great of a lounge but will do in a pinch. Singapore is clearly the better option from a food/power outlet perspective. Can't comment too much on NZ lounge, but would give that a shot over Club.

The area that I chose to sit in had access to small tables, each with an electrical outlet. However, I noticed that some of the desks were a bit lopsided, and upon closer inspection, the wood was slowly splitting! Hopefully they'll consider replacing the partially broken furniture soon? The food choices were decent. The vegetarian penne pasta looked really good, although I didn't try it. They also offered sushi, but it didn't look like there was fish; it was more like California rolls and maybe imitation crab. My usual go-to's are the wine, cheese, and crackers, which there were a lot of. I appreciated the free, no-password-needed wifi which was very quick (maybe because there was barely anyone there?) I was able to be productive while enjoying the serenity of the lounge. All of the staff were pleasant and my dishes were also cleared in timely manner. Overall, this is a good lounge to relax in before taking off to your final destination!
