During our layover in Melbourne we were able to use the T3 lounge since it was convenient to our boarding gate. We could not use the kiosks to check in with our United issued boarding passes so my *G status and FF# had to be manually verified at the counter. Staff were quite friendly and explained everything to us as our first time visitors. I also appreciated the PA announcements for flight boardings. Inside was large and quite busy. Luckily there was a lot of seating. Food options were varied with cereal, scrambled eggs and beans, make your own cheese and tomato toasties or pancakes, fresh fruits and yogurts to name a few. Food quality and taste were as expected for a buffet style. Overall worth a stop to take a breather while waiting for our flight to Tasmania. read more

I always love stopping in this lounge before a domestic flight out. The lounge is very spacious so there's always a seat even if it's peak season. There's usually a variety of grazing foods, definitely not the best lounge food I've had. If you have an American Express platinum card or a business class domestic ticket you're able to gain access to the lounge which is definitely a perk! read more

Very large lounge with seating areas arranged like a maze. There is no direct path between areas. Mid century style furniture. The lounge is showing its age a bit. There are showered, which can be very convenient but things didn't seem to get upgraded during the pandemic era. For example, sink faucets have physical handles. Food section is fairly limited but does the job. They had a veggie wrap and a potato wrap, crisps, couscous, hot food was rice with curry gravy. Soda fountain and some adult beverages. They don't have enough cleaning staff. Half the tables haven't been cleared, so we ended up bussing dishes just to be able to sit somewhere. read more

(Apparently, if you have enough money people just give you free stuff, like alchohol, food, showers, internet, puppies, etc. you get the idea - the Virgin Lounge is pretty much heaven.) Every time I enter 'The Virgin Lounge' I feel it is important that people know who I am (somebody obviously) So, being the expert that I am. I'd like to give you a few key tips on how to be somebody and get all the things you have ever wanted (from an airport lounge). You're welcome. Step 1: Show up and have a Virgin Lounge Pass (Velocity Gold Card or Above) Step 2: Wear sunglasses inside. Apparently this says, 'I'm rich' and I don't want you to see my eyeballs indoors. (clever) Step 3: Enter (this step is probably the easiest step) Step 4: Pretty much get everything you wanted: wine, really cute bar snack mix, frozen yoghurt, a fresh towel to take a shower, internet access and I'm pretty sure respect. Step 5: Wait for them to call your flight, pretend like you didnt hear it, miss your flight and repeat step 4. So kids, when you want to feel like you are somebody, like me. The Virgin Lounge has really improved over the years, and this particular one is a great way to start a holiday or business trip. The staff always offer a pleasant welcome and the food and beverage options are vast enough to cater to most tastes. There's plenty of seating with views out over the tarmac - a great way to kill time if you like planes or need to entertain small kids. Or when needing to get work done, the desks with power outlets are abundant and close enough to food and drink supplies if you need more fuel to get through the inbox. Pro tip: the lounge is BEFORE the security checks and some gates are quite far away. Unless you like hearing your name called out over the loud speaker as you run through the terminal I highly recommend giving yourself enough time to navigate the crowds. read more

For an Australian domestic lounge, this place isn't too bad, hence the 4 star vote. It would probably go down a star or two if I was to compare it to domestic lounges overseas. In saying this, the staff are always very friendly, but you can only get very basic food and drinks. Not a coffee drinker, however I have heard from people travelling with me, the barista is pretty good. A positive is the security screening direct to the gates from the lounge. It is only really open at peak times, but makes things so much easier than joining the main queues outside the lounge. read more

Agree with other reviewers - they could do well to have more quiet/cosy areas to get some work done, read, or watch the TV, and keep an area near the bar for networking/drinks. Not the largest of Virgins lounges but a comfortable place to wait for your flight. Lounge for gold, platinum and business class passenger's, also has a shortcut to security screeing which allows quicker/priority access to the gates. This is virgin flagship lounge in Australia, its massive with a good selection of drinks, plenty of seating, showers etc. Everyone enjoys the toastie stations and sometimes they have pies at footy time. More food options could take this place to the next level and make it feel more luxury. read more

Certainly my favourite lounge - Melbourne's Virgin Australia really is a great spot to hang out in before a flight. It's got a great view of the Virgin T3 apron and active runway which is always exciting, massive seating area across different levels, great style, great service and overall comfortable. So why doesn't this get the fifth star? Simple - the Lounge should be after security. I understand from the location and the layout of T3, it's not exactly ideal but the fact that you need to leave the Lounge with so much time to clear security and make it down to your gate (queues for security this Sunday stretched all the way to the Lounge doors, actually). But about the things the Lounge can control - the Thai curry served for dinner on Tuesday night was absolutely sensational. It's probably the first and only time that I have thought that yes, this menu was actually designed by a real chef. Just the right amount of bite to the dish, it was easily as good as the Thai I've had at my local Thai restaurant. A delicious Cab Merlot was on offer that night, and it went down a real treat. Forgot the name of it, but it was a good drop. The barista coffee service was greatly appreciated, given that they're on hand around the clock. I enjoyed my coffee and my fiancée liked the hot chocolate but it seems they use a syrup for the hot chocolate which can make it a little sweet. All in all - this is my absolute favourite of the Virgin lounges (though I am yet to see Gold Coast, Canberra and Perth), with the tipping point being the view of the airfield as you enjoy your meal or drink - preferably both. read more

I've had them go way above and beyond, even when their day has been hell. After all, we as passengers might be annoyed with delays, but what about having to deal with each of us? Anyways. Food consists of ingredients to make sandwiches, salads, fruit all day. I believe in trying to stay with one airline for maximum loyalty bonuses like free lounges and Virgin wins hands down. If lucky enough to qualify the Melbourne lounge is an oasis with great showers, amenities provided including towels, the hotcake machine is amazing and the barista makes great coffee. It is the only way to relax before or in between flights. The bar service is great with great wines and the soups in winter are amazing. Well done Virgin Australia. read more

Big spacious clean lounge. Here on a Sunday morning. Good coffee but a bit of a queue. Good food options and free wifi etc. This is a nice lounge and compares well to Air NZ Koru and others. Staff friendly and helpful. Only issue is that it is before security so there is an extra step and variable queue time between the lounge and the gates. read more
