I invite you to read this more as a lengthy anecdote about everyday miracles achieved by doctors, in this case by Dr. Stephen McConnell, rather than just another review offering up a one-line and very banal platitude. The "miracle" is that before my initial appointment with Dr. McConnell on Nov. 7th I was essentially blind in my left eye. I could distinguish between lightness and darkness and could detect the faint outlines of close-up objects. For 2 1/2 years I simply accepted the fact I'd gone blind in my left eye for good. What had happened was that I awoke one day to find my left eye swollen shut and crimson from irritation. I couldn't immediately get a ride to an emergency health clinic, but after several days I visited one. A doctor saw me for less than a minute, pointing at my left eye declaring that I had an infection, for which she'd call in an Rx for an antibiotic. She never came within 5 feet of me and never examined my eye up close, as one might have expected her to do. And that was, after paying $172, pretty much that. Fast forward to Nov. 7th and my initial visit with Dr. McConnell. In less than 2 minutes, after examining all the photo images the staff had taken shortly after my arrival, Dr. MxConnell found a contact lens in my left eye which had fused to the cornea. He then immediately removed that contact lens with great care and delicacy and I felt nothing but relief. The doctor had miraculously saved my left eye and held out hope for the cornea to heal over time with eventual restoration of vision in my left eye. I told them about it and they acted like it was my problem. They had the optician check my eyes and she confirmed her previous prescription, which is wrong. After several attempts to get them to change my prescription to one that actually is comfortable for me to wear, and every time them telling me that there's nothing wrong with my glasses, I gave up and had glasses made somewhere else with my old prescription. I'll NEVER have eye exams here again. I'll go somewhere that will believe me when I say my prescription is wrong and will actually fix the issue. It's a dang shame, as the people are so nice otherwise.

They claimed I needed a laser procedure to relieve eye pressure and sent me to Brunswick for it. On the day of the procedure, they put the wrong substance in my eye, preventing the treatment. I was sent home--over 30 miles away--without an apology or compensation and had to return another day. They acted like nothing happened. Every office visit I paid my co-pay, yet despite my last visit being in January, I received a letter in October threatening collections for a supposed 90-day overdue balance. How can I owe anything when I haven't been there in 10 months? The service is terrible, overrated, and far too expensive. The care is sometimes good sometimes deficient. I called for an eye appointment and the exam was fine. But when I got tot part I was supposed to pick out glasses, the assistant barely helped me. I was really needed help because I have a wide face and I had my young son in the baby carrier. The assistant brushed me off and acted like I was a second class citizen. Then he suggested that I come back because he was busy. He was busy... I never came back. I will and will continue to pay out of pocket to Walmart before I ever come back there again. Never again. Side note: when I was waiting for an assistant, I spoke with a family of three young daughters who needed glasses. They were trying to figure out how to pay 850 for their three kids. The mother went online and found the prescription glasses for a third of the cost and left the building.
