I invite you to read this more as a lengthy anecdote about everyday miracles achieved by doctors, in this case by Dr. Stephen McConnell, rather than just another review offering up a one-line and very banal platitude. The "miracle" is that before my initial appointment with Dr. McConnell on Nov. 7th I was essentially blind in my left eye. I could distinguish between lightness and darkness and could detect the faint outlines of close-up objects. For 2 1/2 years I simply accepted the fact I'd gone blind in my left eye for good. What had happened was that I awoke one day to find my left eye swollen shut and crimson from irritation. I couldn't immediately get a ride to an emergency health clinic, but after several days I visited one. A doctor saw me for less than a minute, pointing at my left eye declaring that I had an infection, for which she'd call in an Rx for an antibiotic. She never came within 5 feet of me and never examined my eye up close, as one might have expected her to do. And that was, after paying $172, pretty much that. Fast forward to Nov. 7th and my initial visit with Dr. McConnell. In less than 2 minutes, after examining all the photo images the staff had taken shortly after my arrival, Dr. MxConnell found a contact lens in my left eye which had fused to the cornea. He then immediately removed that contact lens with great care and delicacy and I felt nothing but relief. The doctor had miraculously saved my left eye and held out hope for the cornea to heal over time with eventual restoration of vision in my left eye. The staff is super friendly and helpful…read more However, I got a new prescription and it's not correct. It actually makes my vision worse than my previous prescription. I told them about it and they acted like it was my problem. They had the optician check my eyes and she confirmed her previous prescription, which is wrong. After several attempts to get them to change my prescription to one that actually is comfortable for me to wear, and every time them telling me that there's nothing wrong with my glasses, I gave up and had glasses made somewhere else with my old prescription. I'll NEVER have eye exams here again. I'll go somewhere that will believe me when I say my prescription is wrong and will actually fix the issue. It's a dang shame, as the people are so nice otherwise.

Initially when I called a over a year ago I was spoken to by the Scheduling Receptionist with a rude and condescending tone. I chose to not make an appointment at that time. A few weeks later I called back and was given an appointment for 9 months out. Feb. 2024 I called to give updated information and was told by the 'scheduling receptionist' - "YOU WANT TO COME HERE, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO COME HERE, THAT'S WEIRD, CAN'T YOU GET HELP FROM OTHER DERMATOLOGISTS IN YOUR AREA?" The person was extremely invasive, condescending and abusive. I called the St. Mary's Location to get help and the Employee Named Paula claimed that she would get me an appointment and send me a SELF-PAY Letter with financial information and she claimed to have been shocked by my experience. 14 days had gone by and I hadn't gotten a letter or a call for an appointment for the St. Mary's Location. I called twice to speak with Paula about it and she said in a very rude tone and acted like I was a burden: "I told MY supervisor about you and she said she would take care of it!" I said: "I hope that my grievance that I shared would not prevent me from becoming an established patient..." THE OFFICE MANAGER NEVER CALLED ME ON HER OWN TO FOLLOW-UP WITH ME UNTIL I CALLED THE SECOND WITH PAULA AND SHARED MY CONCERNS ABOUT NOT BEING A PATIENT. I feel that the GOOGLE REVIEWS ARE BEING 'BOUGHT' because I was not able to POST MY NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE PUBLICLY for Dr. Ashley Cavalier - St. Simons, Ga. My review showed up for only me to see. All of these raving reviews about Dr. Cavalier and since my experience of not getting an appointment in a reasonable manner, and not being worked in, and having to wait a year (ANGEL CALLED AND SAID MAY OF 2024) LEFT A VOICEMAIL AFTER I CALLED TWICE) was a total insult and there was absolutely no respect for My Patient Care/Health. I would like for Dr. Cavalier to know how devastating this has been for me due to what A LOT of patients are saying about her in a positive manner and their medical care and experience.
