Found this thrift shop while heading to Pottstown. At first glance it doesn't appear to be much but once inside you're transformed to a very nicely decorated and organized retail space - at least in the first few rooms. As you stroll thru the building the organization and display become less and less enticing into you reach the back which is literally like an unheated warehouse with stuff everywhere, somewhat organized. I did enjoy myself digging thru and discovering cool things but was deterred by the pricing which was more in line with an antique store than a thrift store. However quality for the most part (with the exception of those back rooms) was decent. In one of the rooms were handpainted portraits on large canvases, tons of them of different everyday, ordinary people. I enjoyed looking thru them to see if it was anyone I knew. Literally there was tons of them! Upstairs you'll find clothing and shoes, which felt like raiding a nursing home closet but not in a cool vintage way. Very matronly and not of current styles. Also clothing was very limited, probably primarily because of lack of space as the upstairs is a loft like area. There is a room for boutique items - with prices to match, only the brands were mall brands and nothing special. It is hard to maneuver in those rooms, and especially to social distance. I didn't feel comfortable up there at all. They did have some good stuff, but again nothing I was willing to pay that much for so I ultimately left empty handed. I will say this, don't let the run down, drab exterior fool you, if you're into the hunt like me this is one place you'll want to explore.

The lady working was super nice and said that new items come in quite a bit, which was great to know. We were there looking at all the stuff for a good 45 minutes, I think the prices were really good. Some booths were higher price points, and others were good! We had to make the conscious decision not to support a company that believes in not only keeping but selling racist cartoon work from the past. Tucked away in the back room is a shelf of racist minstrel show cartoons that can not and should not be ignored. There is no justification for it, not then, not now, not ever. My wife was immediately bothered and made uncomfortable after seeing it. Not everything from the past should live on, and businesses who plan to operate in a country where not everyone looks the same, should have the intelligence to deny pieces that are diabolical and hateful. We were recommended this consignment shop by my father-in-law who is a black man. We will 100% be letting him as well as the rest of my in laws know of our findings within this store. We have to be better as people, and the only way that is done, is by thinking of others when we make decisions, especially in business.

Renninger's is part farm market, antique market, and flea market that's only open on Fridays and Saturdays. Parking is located on all sides of the building with entrances everywhere. One thing that overall impressed me was the lack of empty booths, with all but a handful occupied by at least something. The farm market portion had various vendors with prepared foods, barked goods, and a few fruit/vegetable vendors. The antique portion had a wide variety of vendors; the setup is almost all booth style. Saw items including military collectables, glassware, media, coins, racing merchandise, and comic books. This portion had a little bit of everything. The flea market vendors are out back under pavilions but were already packing up by early afternoon. If you are a local, a trip to Renninger's could be worth a stop once a month. Would I travel a longer distance to come here? Probably not.

If you have courage (and a mask/gloves) take a dive into the used "fashion" booths. You can find interesting stuff whose fabric can be used for crafts, etc. There is a guy selling some Nazi crap, so be aware. There's food to eat, vegetables, meats, cheeses, snacks and more. When the outside area is being used for sales, you can spend hours walking around. Don't wear nice shoes, just comfortable ones. Parking is abundant. The workers are readily available to assist customers with accessing hard to reach items and offer to bring purchases to the front of the store to be held for you. Everyone I encountered was friendly, pleasant and helpful. This is set up similar to an "Antique Mall" but is much nicer than that. There are many rooms and it's so much fun to explore. At first I figured I would only be window shopping because some of the prices knocked me off my feet. I am a bargain hunter and have access weekly to some pretty amazing finds at my local farmers market. I get things for very reasonable prices. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and found a tremendous gift for a friend. I highly recommend visiting The Swamp Door. You will enjoy walking down memory lane. It is extremely well organized, with so many nooks and crannies, we needed a couple of hours to appreciate and soak in all of the wonderful memories this spacious store gifted to us!
