We began this journey a year ago, but we weren't happy with the original guy handling the process, and let the coals go cold for awhile. When we decided to revisit the situation in August, we were directed to Trent. Home buying is a headache, it's not easy.. no matter who you're working with. It's constant requests for documents, while they shift through your life with a fine tooth comb. That being said; Trent led our team flawlessly. Answered all my crazy questions, kept the storm calm, and was very reassuring throughout the process. Attempted a refi through American Financing. At every level of the process AF rushed me to do my part, while they were very slow to respond and made CONSTANT mistakes. They finally stopped responding for a few weeks, so I stopped pursuing them. Who wants someone like that servicing their loan? Scary! After a whole month a new guy pops up and says my loan officer has left the company (I'll bet!) and this new guy's on it now. No thanks! If it had just been one guy's mistake it would've been okay. Oh, so many things to say about AF, but not many good things. Clearly, they spend all their money on advertising, since you cannot get away from their commercials on the radio or the television. Peyton Manning cannot be cheap. If they spent their money on providing people with quality services, they would be much better off. I went with AF because I wanted to support a local company. Plus, I didn't want to pay 10K in closing costs. I was assured that I wouldn't pay anywhere NEAR 10K in closing costs. But, here I am, over three months in, totally over a barrel and WAY OVER 10K in closing costs. I'm so glad I can fund Peyton Manning's continued appearances for this company that has their heads up their butts. I'm sure he needs the money. Like everyone else has said on here--communication is poor or non-existent. Major things would change about my loan (like, for example, paying off loans that I didn't want to pay off because--why would I pay off a loan for 30 years, when I could be done with it in 3?), but no one would CALL me to give me a heads up about these types of MAJOR changes. They would just send new loan documents for me to sign. So, then I had to call THEM to ask about it. What was supposed to be a simple cash out refi, ended up being a three month ordeal that (I think) only ended because I told them I was reporting them to the BBB if they didn't get it done. I sent and re-sent documents. Every time I turned around, they either needed something else, needed something I had already sent, or they just ghosted me for weeks at a time. Didn't return calls or emails or text messages. It was a lucky day when someone would actually answer the phone at their office. I think if your loan is super simple--no cash out, no credit issues, no impending divorce, no co-signer, no quit claim deed, no nothing--this is probably a great company. But, if you have anything even remotely complicated, you are better off shopping around for a company with more experience working with actual human beings who don't have every ideal circumstance in life. Just...run away. Far, far away. DO NOT use this company. Their priorities are very backward. I will never recoup the OVER 10K I paid in closing costs and fees (you're welcome, Peyton), but you can save yourself. Use a credit union. Use a bank. Use Rocket Mortgage. Hell, use a sketchy guy that sends you unsolicited mail in an envelope smeared with mustard. But don't use American Financing. read more

They act like they are going to make it super easy and are responsive at first but then they drag the process out, with repeated requests for the same information already given, they don't respond to you, and after 45 days with what should have been a fairly simple refi, I quit and had to start over with another company. This is the worse choice I made when I bought my new house. They didn't seem to know how to pull credit. Their loan processors didn't share information with the mortgage consultant in the same company. We would get an email, respond, then get another email from the loan processor asking the same question. We had to resend the same documents multiple times. They failed to schedule the appraisal ahead of time, so in order to close on time, we had to request a waiver. Do not use American Financing!! read more

I purchased a home last year though AF and had a wonderful experience so when I went to Refi this year, I naturally thought of them. It was a disaster. I applied for a refi in Feb. It was a long drawn out process. They totally lacked communication and never alerted me to what was happening and I almost withdrew at one point but they offered me concessions and promised me a smoother process. They told me upfront that they were very busy and it would take a few months to close, but since I was locked into a good rate, I wasn't too concerned about it. They only communicated by email, even if I asked them to call me so it was difficult for me to get all the questions I had answered. I got an appraisal in April and I was set to close in June. I got an email telling me not to make my June payment since I would be closing. Then I get a call from the appraiser mid June saying he has to do another appraisal. When I asked why, he said he got a different request with a different loan ID, meaning they switched the loan I was going to get and this is how I found out that everything they communicated at first had changed. When I called them, they confirmed that the loan had changed and told me to make my June payment since I would now be closing in early July. I paid but was charged a $70 late fee, which they said they would reimburse at closing. They contacted me in July about setting up a closing date and I thought finally, I'm going to close. Then I get a call saying my rate lock had expired and that they need to repull my credit to requalify me. At this point, I tell them to fuck off, paid my July mortgage, incurred another $70 late fee, and am currently refinancing with another company. I actually lost $140 trying to refi through them. Stay away from this company!! read more

Disappointing. After hearing about American Financing on the Glen Beck podcast my wife and I decided to give them a try. Carri Cameron and her team did a sorry job. No communication between them whatsoever. Almost every time I will call they wouldn't answer, or they will ask me to send them a document I had already sent to them. We were supposed to close first week of August after 3 long months of trying to get the refi done, and to this point have not heard back from them. Called to get some info on mortgage rates and costs on cash out refinancing. The other 3 companies I called sent me an estimate with address, estimated value of property and estate of credit score. This company starts going in through the whole entire like loan application process and I said I'm just interested in getting some basic information an estimate on rates and closing costs based on the same information that I've given three other companies and the representative tells me oh well without all this other information I can't give you an accurate estimate. Whatever they're giving you, is not accurate and it's just a bunch of fluff. I explained to her, I'm not interested in doing the whole loan application process or having a hard credit inquiry until I've decided on which company I'm going to use. I've done many loans and a few refinances. You can at least get a general idea of rates and costs without too much information. Trying to sucker you in by saying other companies estimates are fluff, is unprofessional. Can't believe this company is endorsed by John Elway. Obviously, a paid endorsement! read more

Worst experience in a refi or mortgage ever. Very primitive company. Not good!! Run away! Run far away!! These people were a absolute mess. They were unable to use DocuSign. Required notaries for normal things. And we were just generally disagreeable. Oh and they forgot to set up an escrow for taxes and insurance so we got to do that twice. But took no ownership for the mistake. I will never do business with these folks again ever. I've used Quicken loans and rocket mortgage before and will again. read more

My first call to American financing, I explain to them I have my own business and I have a lot of deductions. I deposit nearly $100,000 a year into my accounts, pay all my bills on time, including my mortgage. I have a fairly decent credit. After a week and a half of emailing documents and signing documents, I am told I have too many deductions to be approved. I don't understand why no one has a problem taking the money that I have, but on paper that seems to be a problem. A huge waste of time for everybody. read more

I am so disappointed with our mortgage consultant and American Financing. When we were going through the refinancing period in November, 2018, our mortgage consultant, Greg, stated that we would be getting $2,586 back from our Penny Mac escrow account. Since the money did not arrive in the 2-3 weeks as he stated it would, I started calling around. Penny Mac paid Safeco Insurance $2,893 on October 15th for the entire year. I called Safeco and they said they had only received funds from Penny Mac and not American Finance. I spoke with Pat, American Financing's manager, and he said the money from American Financing for the homeowners insurance would cover from October 2019 for the remainder of that year. As I will be getting money pulled from each months payment to cover escrow/homeowners insurance, this doesn't seem correct. The manager acknowledged that his consultant misspoke but offered me $100 gift card. Do Not Do Business With This Company!!! read more

So far, so good working with American Financing. I'm a little shocked at the bad reviews I'm seeing on here. We are first time home buyers and obviously heard about them on every radio station out here in Denver. Wanted to try them out as we will be using our VA Loan, and it's a pretty straight forward loan. They responded quickly to my online inquiry. The next day they reached me by phone and got us set up with a mortgage consultant to get us preapproved. The very same day. We are working with Carolyn and I love her. She is great at answering questions we have and dealing with any concerns. And now she has hooked us up with a realtor, who she seems to adore. Everything seems to be running smoothly as of now and we are very excited for the next step! (I am staying positive and not expecting anything to "go wrong", so you wont be seeing any updates unless heaven forbid it does) read more

Always heard about American Financing on the Glenn Beck Program. We needed to do a speedy Refi so I figured Ive give them a call. We had a great experience... From the lady that answered the phone, to Douglas Longoria helping us along the way! Doug was super attentive! He always emailed back same day, booked the appraisal, notary, with out me having to lift a finger, OR leave the house to sign docs or do anything like that. refi closed sooner the 30 days, and we are beyond PLEASED! Especially with all the fly by night companies you hear about! Im beyond thrilled we decided to give them our business and next time we need anything I'll definitely be giving them a call! Wow is all I can say. The refinancing went flawless, HOWEVER, we were assured American Financing would NOT sell our mortgage BACK to RoundPoint...guess what they did UGH!!! We just spent almost 7K in appraisal, closing cost, so on and so on to be sold BACK to the company we were desperately trying to get away from. Now what do we do???? So very sickened and disappointed with this amount of money we just spent to get refinanced and reassured we our mortgage would NOT be sold back to them. Go somewhere else is all I can say read more

We went to them for a va refinance after waiting a 5 weeks for them to get it done they told us the va needed a different form i had a form 22 and they needed a form 23 i requested the form they did also after 3 weeks i find out the va was shutdown due to the covid they should have known what form i needed i could have received it before they shut down so they sent me an email stating they where closing my application and i could call them when i had the new form needless to say i wont be using them ever again and for the record this would have been my third time with them read more

ABSOLUTE GARBAGE SCUM COMPANY!!! Because of Covid I got furloughed in July and I did a forbearance plan with my mortgage company (not AFC). I got a new job in November and I got out of the forbearance plan after 4 months. I'm currently making payments every month under a repayment plan and it will be paid back by August. Interest rates being so low I wanted to refinance my mortgage. Every company I reached out to said I need to fully pay back my forbearance before I can refinance. But AFC kept telling me that I don't have to and they will add what's left of my forbearance to the life of my refi. I kept asking them over and over are you sure I don't have to pay what's left of my forbearance and they kept telling me I don't have to. I kept asking because why would every other company I reached out to tell me I had to pay it off, but they were saying I don't have to? 3 months they've been dragging this refinance process. I had better options I could have went with but I wanted to use AFC because I didn't want to pay the forbearance back all at once. Well after 3 months of them dragging this out they tell me they can't refinance my mortgage until I pay back what's left of my forbearance. They have been lying to me for the past 3 months! And then when we're getting close to the finish line, they decline my application because I still have payments to make on my forbearance. If they had not lied to me, I would have paid my forbearance back in full months ago and I would have refinanced with another company because I had a lot better rates and lower costs offered to me. Now rates have skyrocketed since I started this whole process with them and at this point it's not worth it to me to refinance at the current rate. The representatives of this company flat out lied to us. A supervisor finally admitted to us that their company made misrepresentations. Then he tried to hold us accountable for not understanding the job responsibilities of his employees. However, it is not the customers job to know the exact role and function of each employee, not to know if the information they are providing is accurate. Further, when discussing a potential loan, a sales representative wanted to discuss the fact that he is a pastor, to discuss our marriage, and stated that his wife used to chase him around the kitchen with a knife. You can't make this up, folks. These people do not have your best interests at heart. They appear to be grossly incompetent and in my opinion were reckless, negligent, and irresponsible. I will be reporting them to the proper agencies, as they now cannot resolve the issues they created for us. Go anywhere else for a home loan. BEWARE. read more

Well it's been a fun week dealing with American Financing. After I posted my previous review about all the issues I faced and the fact that they lied to me about what type of mortgage I was getting, I began receiving calls from someone claiming he was a manager there asking about this review and stating that he hoped everything had been "cleared up" (it hadn't). Sometime after this I received another message from the person I'd been talking with saying that the type of mortgage I wanted actually WAS available (of course this was all of 3 days before I was supposed to close) but that she had just found out about it because the loan processor working on my mortgage had insisted it didn't exist and had been wrong about it. I didn't respond as it seemed that they were simply trying to push the blame onto other people and wash over their blatant errors. Well after all this, my closing date was moved, but I was assured it would be done in time for me to move out of my apartment (I had scheduled to leave two weeks after my first closing date). Well today was supposed to be the absolute latest I was supposed to close, and out of nowhere I get an email moving my closing date back another week! Their response when I asked why was typical: they blamed someone else. On top of that, they seemed to genuinely not care that I was about to be homeless because of their actions, just like they didn't care about the bald faced lies they had told me before. So once again I have to say, go somewhere else. These people appear to have one motivation, money, and they'll do whatever they can to get it. They certainly don't seem to care about their customers, or even owning up to their mistakes (or training their employees for that matter. Save yourself the frustration (and money) and just find someone else. read more

Started the Refi process quickly but that's where it ended. They chose an incompetent appraiser (not their fault) that devalued our home to the point that we could barely squeak by a home loan. When it came time to move forward with underwriting, they found a "child support obligation", stopped all communication and dropped our loan from their system. Never even told us how they came up with the child support obligation! read more

I totally recommend doing all of your research before working with anyone. I tried working with American Financing, but their "down payment assistance" adds percentage to your interest (so you're paying a lot more for it than you actually think) which they don't tell you, you pay extra for the loan insurance every month, and the "pre-qualification" is a load of crap. My pre-qual from Kayla S said $150k, and they said to go look with that amount. But when it came down to "I put in an offer, can we start the rest of the paperwork" they came back with they could only get me $69k, a far cry from what they said I could go look with. There was no way they could even come close to even the offer I put in for 130k, and they didn't seem to care. When I asked what I was supposed to do, they said someone would review my file and get back to me, but they never did. So I had to find another lender and quickly to avoid losing the contract on the place. Mind you, this was the second time I'd tried working with AF. The first time, they told me that based on the information I had, I was wasting their time. The guy I had spent almost an hour working with, walked out of the conference room, and in full view of myself and a couple in the waiting room, threw my file in the trash... read more

This was the worst financing experience I ever had. It took almost 4 months to get through the process. I was refinancing 25% of the value of home. The people I dealt with were all nice, but the process was disorganized. After 2 months, they would request documents that they were already sent. After three months they would request again. Even after closing signatures, they requested documents before funding. I would never use them again! read more

My wife and I started our REFI with American in December 2015. We were told by Ron, our representative here in Albuquerque, that we would be able to skip Jan and Feb payments. We asked him if the Mortgage Pmt for Jan is late what will we do. He said that we would only owe a late charge...about $49. We never pay anything late and told him we do not want to start....It will damage our credit ratings. We paid January's payment on time...Thankfully! (Now, we did not have a firm closing date at that time.) We finally were 'setup' with a closing date in Feb. Next, American was told in a 'pay out letter' from our Mortgage Company, the $ was due to the mortgage company NLT the 19th of February...otherwise it will cost $38.78 per day until it is paid off correctly. Well, our CLOSING was on the 22nd of Feb. (3 days late) Therefore, the payout amt was short 3 X $38.78. (over $150 short)....Then, the mortgage company did not get the 'payout' until 13 days later. Therefore, they needed to pay the $150 + and the 13 X $38.78. We closed (finalized all of the paperwork on Feb 22....at Rio Grande Title Company) (We did not know that these 2 companies were so incompetent that they would leave this done the way they did.) We were notified about 3 months later that the Mortgage Company needed US to pay over $650.00. Now, lets go back a little...Rio Grande Title Company did not send the check to CLOSE PROPERLY for about 5 days...the paperwork sat on someone's desk and they DID NOT MAIL IT. That's about 5 days of 'INTEREST $' ARE YOU WANTING TO DO BUSINESS AT AMERICAN FINANCE COMPANY???? I am not finished with all of the problems, frustrations, disappointments and a few more descriptive words.... I won't even say here. I think you GET THE IDEA! Don't use these guys. So, started out bad. We were suppose to met loan officer (Naquatta Ricks) at 10:00am and she doesn't show till 10:45am. Then she puts the wrong couple in the conference room. After doing a switch, we had to wait another 30min while she reviewed file. After finally meeting her and signing docs the emails we sent, as well as, phone calls didn't get returned. We wrote a contract and needed her to recalculate some numbers. She never did. When she finally called I told her we went another more responsive company. read more

They deserve 0 stars. Terrible experience that ended with us cancelling our refinance application after more than 90 days. The loan officer kept saying everything was "on track" until he stopped responding to phone calls or emails. We reached out to corporate only to start the process all over again and learn they had "cancelled" our rate lock more than 10 days before the expiration on our paperwork. They're dishonest and don't deserve to be in business. read more

We started the loan application on July 15. Still no loan and no return calls in response to our inquiries about what is happening. We did receive a bill for an appraisal that they ordered and they picked the appraiser but they want us to pay for it. This company is a joke. read more

The first time I refinanced with this company my experience was excellent, that was three years ago. Now I would not recommend this company to anyone. I filled out my loan paperwork in December of 2020. In January I was told everything looked good, and we just needed to wait for closing. For the last five months we have been in contact with our loan officer- Eddie Sheppard- twice a week. A few times he has had us resubmit paperwork. This is frustrating, but we just went to their portal, copied the paperwork they have, and sent it again. In the last two months he has said we are just waiting for the closing date. Today I was contacted by Renee from their office, with a list of missing paperwork. All paperwork we have already sent. My loan is a VA loan, and I sent the DD-214 to them in December. They are just now, six months later, sending it to the VA. It appears this company spends more on famous spokespeople than they do on providing the product they sell. read more

Never take their first offer. Much like a car dealership, they get as much as possible from every customer. They dropped their price for me by 6k from their initial offer in order to match a competitors offer. I went with the competitor because they gave me their best price on the first offer. read more

I looked to American Financing to see about a HELOC. I heard about them through radio advertisement with celebrity endorsement. Turns out that was a bad idea. All I wanted was a quote on HELOC rates. So a salesman called, I told him that specifically and he passed me on to another after taking information from me. Turns out that the DO NOT OFFER HELOCS! AND THEY RAN A CREDIT REPORT that has hit my rating! This company is shady in their sales tactics and not forthcoming. BUYER BEWARE and don't give any information to them until you are SURE that they are going to provide you with what you are looking for. read more

I am a real estate associate working with a buyer that has the money to pay cash but would rather keep her money in her trust to live on. You would think that mortgage professionals would know what needs to be done to get someone like this approved. The night before the loan approval deadline we were called only to be told, THERE WAS A SLIGHT SNAG, that my client could not be approved (slight snag?) because the underwriter wanted two months of documents of how She got Her disbursements. They should have known this from the get go, if they were truly professionals. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. They like some other mortgage lenders wait until the very end to tell You they can't do such an easy deal. If Mr. Elway really recommends this as a good place to do business, I have eaten at his restaurant, his restaurant is similar. Over priced and under delivers!!!! read more

Worst experience I have ever had. Vincent blew me off and failed to return phone calls and emails for weeks on end. I was looking to do a cash out refinance. They lied, I was given different and conflicting information every time I did get in touch with someone. I was told there would be no out of pocket costs and that they would pay for the appraisal. I received an invoice from them today for the appraisal. I wish I would have read the reviews first. read more

WOW! Worst service ever. I heard them advertised on the radio. Sounded so good. Eleonora Halmedova was assigned to me. She couldn't answer basic questions about loans and interest rates. Loan docs not sent to her because I suspected major problems. That should be a warning. Then I saw the other Yelp ratings........ of lousy service.........and now I understand. Don't waste your time. So disappointed by this company! So much for their commercials. I inquired online through the chat last week and someone immediately called to transfer me to a loan specialist - so far so good and I was impressed with how quickly they responded. Had the conversation with the loan specialist, got good information. The next day, I left a voice mail, no one called me back, and I sent an email, got a very curt response, then replied to that and nothing. No response. They clearly are not interested in getting my business! On the other hand Quicken Loans and Costco... completely different story! Check them out. read more
