Possibly the best museum ever. It has a ton of really cool bits of history! Definitely a must see.

A great place to hold parties, play, learn, be curious, and more importantly, have fun! He and his friends had so much fun exploring and playing everywhere! They could pretend to be service heroes, doctors, working at a restaurant or at the grocery store. Be an astronaut, play on a ship, and learn with a bunch of gadgets and gizmos. I would absolutely recommend this place for birthday parties and school field trips. As always, Enjoy & Happy Learning!

When you enter, you can choice to go right or left, two sides to the center. To the right is a few games, (such as connect four), life size light bright, and a cool vacuum that you put fluff balls in and watch how it filters through the vacuum suction tubes. You can walk through the volcano and experience what an earthquake could possibly feel like. Walk all the way up to the ship deck and see the world. Down on the main floor, my granddaughter loved learning the magic of being on television. When coming in, if you turned left, you enter the world of life skills and career options. The makeshift grocery store is very realistic and makes it fun for kids to learn to shop and organize. The kids can pretend to work in medical clinics, veterinarian clinics, restaurant personnel (food prep/chef/server), be an astronaut and explore the outer world, firefighter, police officer, lawyer, and/or judge, medical specialist, and more. There is a separate room for birthdays or gatherings. There is a very low price of $10 pre adult/student and discounts offered for seniors and military. I didn't get pictures while exploring with my grandkids, but it really is a fun little place to go explore. You can visit their website for more pictures and info. https://www. discoveryscienceplace.org

This is definitely something to do if you're in the area with your kids or on your own. The incredibly low admission fee makes this a great value, too, for the whole family since children are FREE. Adult admission is $5. Less than a cup of Starbucks, folks! The museum is open on Wed, Fri, and Saturday at the time of this review. The museum took about 2 hours or so for us to see but I can easily imagine it taking less or more time, depending on the type of museum-goer you are. Favorite highlights - the jail, the 1900s house that has all the furnishings, the telephone museum, the two log cabins with furnishings as well - the schoolroom, the old fire truck and the art car, the church with bootlegging equipment at the front. The main building also had thousands of things to see from old wedding dresses and tiny shoes to military uniforms from every major war I can think of! I also loved the old drugstore with all of the little concoctions and bottles of things with the old labels and everything. We got a great sense of Freestone County history, but it goes much farther than that. You'll walk out with a feeling like you traveled through time from the Spanish-American War, Texas Independence, Cotton, Slavery, Civil War, the Oil Industry, Railroads, Prohibition, and onward! The things you can see in the place from any of these time periods is phenomenal. This place has to be one of Texas's best-kept secrets, and I will recommend it to everyone I know who enjoys history, the great outdoors (as there is an awesome state park with camping nearby). Please don't miss it you come to Fairfield to visit or pass-through! Patricia, the curator, is also amazing, and it's obvious how much hard work she puts into the place to make it so amazing. Also, if you plan to go and you don't have cash, you can go to their website (freestonecomuseum.com) and pay online through the "Donate Online" button. We had cash on us by some miracle. But if you want to use your credit card, go to the website and use the "Donate Online" button to make your payment! The museum is a non-profit and shares its history with children in the area every year. Do not hesitate to give more than $5. This museum is the litttle museum that could, and does, in my mind! We must not forget where we were and how far we've come! Freestone County Historial Museum is one to put on the Must-Do list!

Probably about the same amount as the average Joe or Jane. They've got fish in tanks on displays, as well as crocodiles (not in tanks though, but in their own enclosure). They've got an exhibit on models of fish caught over the year. Some get pretty big and impressive as well as an insane amount of lures. They have a quick little show with a giant tank and diver in it teaching about the different fish there. We followed it with a tram tour around the fishery. They showed where the fish was kept and explain the process. Towards the end they'll offer to let you off so you can walk back through their marsh walkway or take you back on the tram. We opted for the walk since it was such a beautiful day out and it was scenic and a good short walk to get the heart going. My favorite part was the fishing pond they have. They'll even set you up with rod and lures to fish there as part of your admission. Before they send you off, they'll give you a quick little spiel to get you started. Ask if you're needing more information. The man running this station is super helpful! We didn't catch anything but it was still a lot of fun. We did see others catch fish. Highly recommend, especially if you have children!
