If I could give zero stars, I would. This company is a complete scam. We were quoted $29.99 for a technician to come out, inspect our garage door, and provide an estimate. That $29.99 was supposed to be applied to the repair costs if we agreed to proceed--which seemed reasonable at first. However, the technician showed up, told us the repair was a straightforward 30-45 minute fix, and started working without providing any estimate or obtaining our consent. He replaced two drums, the cables, and two wheels--none of which were particularly costly parts. When the work was finished, he explained that because this job was "dangerous," labor alone would cost $900. He then told us the total price for the work was $1,460. This is a blatant rip-off. The total cost for these parts on the high end is around $50, and I was initially told materials were $750 before the technician "revised" his numbers multiple times, eventually showing me a receipt claiming materials cost $400. Even factoring in labor, the job should have cost no more than $300-$400. We did obtain another quote from another garage door repair and the total they quoted for parts and labor was $350. The technician refused to leave until we paid and could not let us speak to a manager as they did the talking in a different language. Avoid this company at all costs. Their tactics are dishonest and predatory, and they clearly try to overcharge customers while refusing to be transparent about pricing. They prey on unsuspecting homeowners who don't know the cost of materials or standard labor rates. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere to a reputable garage door repair service. read more

During this second visit, the technician was methodical about resolving a number of issues before moving on to our second door and quickly adjusting that one. Horrible quality. I purchased a new home and this company installed their garage doors. Tracks weren't adjusted properly allowing side to side movement of the garage door and awful sounds, tension bar and spring was the wrong size, gaps on the side allowed air/moisture intrusion causing the interior walls to get soaked, chain not properly adjusted, closing force not properly adjusted, wheel came out of the track 3 times, wires not properly taped off, caps came off and left expose wire, and when they were called to finish the repairs they flaked on 3 different appointment times with weak excuses. Finally had to contact A1 Garage Doors to correct all the mistakes and now my garage door is as it should be. read more

I see mixed reviews here but I've had nothing but great service and communication from American Garage Door. When we did a custom build (through HomeWrights) they provided and installed a custom garage door at a competitive price. Lead time was long, and slightly delayed - but not as long/delayed as their competition (this was in 2022)! The door was making a lot of noise the next spring - they came out and serviced it for free (just needed wheel/rail lube - we live in a windy/dusty area) since it was within warranty. Recently they repaired a garage door on a rental house we own. They rough quoted over the phone and repaired for less than the quote. We also quoted a competitor - they wanted 50% more for the same work and were hard selling a full new door and opener when both are still fine. Will definitely use again. read more

Had two garage doors installed August 2021. Had to call them back out as one of the doors was not lifting properly (garage built in 1989). Due to supply shortages some parts were not available, however 'Austin' came out today and got everything working perfectly. If it was possible to leave a negative star review I would. So many issues. This company installed the garage door on our newly-built home. The door worked only sporatically, and neither of the remotes worked (and we were unable to program them - spent hours and it just wouldn't work). The technician whose card the builder gave us was not the right person - and after leaving multiple messages with the "main" number we NEVER heard back from anyone. Finally got the builder to call and get an appointment with someone. After waiting TWO WEEKS to have someone come out - he was an hour late, and was probably the most condescending person I have EVER had service my home ever. I asked him to program the remote - he said he did, but when I tried it did not work (after he left, of course). He spent about 5 minutes looking at the door and said he "couldn't replicate the program" and to call if we had additional issues. Run as fast as you can away from this company. read more

Working with American Garage Door prior to the sale was excellent. They were very responsive and helpful sorting out a custom design. After pre-paying, the service fell off dramatically. We ordered two doors (custom and stock). We didn't hear anything and then one day heard the custom door was ready and would be installed in couple days. The stock door was 6 weeks later. To make it worse, when the stock door was installed they didn't bring a motor and that took another week. I understand the fabrication challenges during Covid, but I feel the communication timeliness and transparency were very poor. I was frustrated enough that for other door and gate needs in the future, I will consider other companies. On the positive side, the installation quality is good and the people who performed the installs were friendly, professional and fast. read more

Please beware of this company. They gave us an estimate for installation of 3 garage doors. For some reason they installed a less expensive model on one of the doors but charged us $300 more than the estimate. Upon asking them to review their bill, they said: I'm sorry we should have charged you more, and resent the bill with another $300 increase. We had a new garage door installed on Friday and we are so happy with the door and the work done! We were told that it was going to take about 2 1/2 hrs to install but they were done in just under 2 hours! Edgar and (sorry, I forget the other guy's name) were amazing! They answered any questions we had and did a wonderful job with the installation, and this was when several inches of snow had been accumulated and it was still coming down! And here we thought that they would cancel! Our new door is great! It's so quiet and insulates much better than our old one ever did! I have been attempting to reach Scott for 2 weeks now. I have left several voice mails and texts with no call back. American installed 2 doors for my client recently (that cost thousands) and the applied cedar is basically falling off both doors. It appears that the glue has failed. I contacted service who told me there is nothing they can do, doors are out of warranty and they are currently not doing any wood door repairs due to staff shortages. There are 3 other doors on this property that are over 10 years old with no issues. I would not reccomend this business. More than happy to remove this review if I can get some resolution. American Garage Door came out and fixed some problems with my garage doors, and I am very happy with the work and the price. Last year another company re-installed two doors after they had to be taken down during a remodel. They also installed a third door in an extension to the garage. None of the three worked right. One screeched loudly, a metal-on-metal noise, as it was lowered. Everything was out of alignment. It was just a sloppy job. The they refused to fix the problems, saying that they could not fix them because my walls are not straight and level. American Garage Door did fix the problems, and now all three doors operate smoothly and quietly, as they are supposed to. Apparently, these guys installed my garage doors at my new house. (I know they did as they left their company sticker on the opener.) Fast forward to today, my garage is making a bunch of clinking noises. So I call my preferred garage door repair man (not them). Apparently, they did a poor job installing the opener. They guy I trust showed me what a poor job they did. These guys installed the opener at an angle crooked. Not only that, but they did a poor job of installing the springs. I would not recommend these guys if the quality of their workmanship is like what they did on my house. read more

First off, i want to note American Garage door just replaced and existing garage door opener. That being said, I also received a quote to have a new garage door installed in a separate garage on my property (which I'll probably do in the near future). The estimator (Duffy) was great ; he was on time, professionally attired and new the products (he had product cut sheets with him, which made the discussion of options easier). Scheduling the installation was easy and they actually were able to get me in a day earlier (no problem, since I work from my home office). The day of install, the 2 installers were on time and again professionally attired. The install was quick and the review of programming the unit was easy. I would highly recommend them based on my experience....the only reason 4 stars instead of 5 is that my project was super easy and I could have done myself (but didn't have time)....hope to submit a 5 star review if they install my other garage door. read more

Terrible customer service. They never do what they say they are going to do. Made 3 different appointments for installation they had to cancel 2 of them. One was by text message. The other one they called 30 minutes before they were supposed to be here to install. They picked up my door the morning of installation, instead of getting a day or 2 before installation day. They told me they had to grab it on their way witch I thought was very unprofessional. When they finally showed up to install they didn't have a big enough latter and had to leave for 2 hours to run back and get a taller latter. After installation they told me that they were missing the trim and that they had to come back and somebody would be in touch with me. The very next day they charged my credit card for the last 50% of the bill. They got 100% of their payment and I got an unfinished door. I realized this a week later and had to reach out to them still with an unfinished door. read more

This did take much longer but the time was worth it. The door is beautiful and just what I had ordered. The technician that installed the door worked hard to get the install perfect. We ordered $16K worth of garage doors on 10/1/19..they were special order and were told by sales person Seth that they would be 3-4 weeks out. A week later we were told due to height of one of the doors our order would be in 11/5/19 and installed that week. On 11/11 we had to call Seth, no garage doors and he did not return our call until 11/14.. since then we have had an install set for 11/22, cancelled due to weather, no call no, return call, an install set for 12/2, no install and we cancelled a portion of our vacation on 12/5- which was our guaranteed install date. We called Seth on 12/4 and he said (as we at the airport coming home, specifically for the install) "not going to happen". We asked his manager to call us- to date we have never heard back from Seth. We have now been dealing with the manager Scott- he is stating that Seth never told him to call us and that the doors have not even been built on site??? Now we have an install date of 12/16- Even if you are bad at math- how is 3-4 weeks from 10/1 12/16?
