American Grill has a full menu, albeit breakfast, lunch or dinner. Our service was good, checking back periodically to see if we needed drink refills and if we wanted anything else (desserts, etc.). I live in the State of Wyoming, Kim has helped me out on more than one occasion since my 86 year old mom lives in Canton, from Mother's Day to Birthday's I have eaten there while back visiting, her whole Catfish is very good and a blessing since I can't get it out here, she has always been pleasant and very helpful towards me!!! I feel like I must update my previous review as I have had several visits to this restaurant while the one of the owners was present and felt I needed a review just for her. This lady is completely and unnecessarily rude to her staff. An elderly customer needed to eat something immediately because of diabetes and the owner overhead someone at the table causally mention this then decided to literally scream at a waitress "THIS LADY IS GONNA HAVE A DIABETIC FIT GET HER SOME CRACKERS NOW!" I should also mention that the restaurant was full, the waitress was busy the whole time I was there and the only job the owner had been doing was seating customers. Seating the customers, let me also touch on that. The owner was very selective as to who she would seat first, regardless of what order the customer came in. If you looked like you had money or status in the town of canton you got seated right away. If you were a casually dressed nobody just looking to support a local restaurant, well you would get a table eventually.... Needless to say, I was completely bothered with this lady. She was rude in several occasion, unkind to her staff and the place was BUSY! She should have been in the best mood ever! That's money! It's really disappointing to see the "man behind the curtain" at what is an otherwise extraordinary place to eat. If that person reads this review, let them take away just one thing from it: you are nothing with out your crew, treat them well or your ship will sink. P.S. Extremely bad service I have been to a lot of restaurants bit this one is in the top 3 for bad service. The food is below average at best in my 3 visits I haven't food anything of note good about the place because of the over whelming bad service. Menu descriptions are NOT correct. French dips are advertised on a hoagie bun but show up on hot dog buns, huge difference. I have a rule of 3 for businesses and won't be returning here and recommend to everybody that they seek somewhere else to eat. In general Good Service can make food seem to taste far better while BAD service creates completely the opposite affect. read more

The breakfast was very good and the hash browns were great. They actually made them brown with some being crunchy. Perfect with ketchup to me. Ham was good and not to fatty or marbled when fried. The lunch/dinner food that I tried was not bad (I got Chicken Parmesan) for a diner. Add that they deliver after 11am or so for a $3.50 charge. I'll eat there again. read more

Stopped here for dinner tonight on our way to Giant Goose Ranch. I had the Prime Rib and the hubby had the Cat Fish dinner. Both were well prepared, under priced and large in portion size for the price. Very delicious. The restaurant had a causal and relaxed atmosphere. The decor was pleasant. We used to be very happy with eating here, but the last two years have been usually bad experiences for us. There have been way too many times we have gotten sides that smelled bad and tasted bad (spoiled or too old?). Even a couple times the meat was questionable. The times we have gotten food to eat at home instead of at the restaurant, all too often, things were forgotten or just plain left out of our orders. No one should have to drive another 5 or 7 miles (each way to the restaurant and back home) to go back to get what was left out of their order. We gave up eating here about six months ago, but recently thought we would try it to see if things had improved. Sadly they have not. We do not eat here at all anymore. read more

I went there with my mom and my two children, the service was good but the food was deplorable. My son's waffle was under cooked and they wanted $1.09 just for a few chocolate chips. My daughter ate the cheese burger and she was complaining her stomach her afterwards. My mother got Ham and french toast and the ham tasted like it was from a boar ( salty and had a weird taste to it). I had walleye which was OK but could be better, things thay should improve upon for the walleye is serve bigger fish portions. What was really bad was the fact that it was more bredding than fish. So in all save yourself the time and go to McDonald's which is far better than their horrible excuse for food. read more

While revisiting Canton, we discovered American Grille. What a joy! The food is hearty, the service friendly, the prices right.

Terrible service. Average food at best ordered the AG Burger no flavor other then cheese and Texas toast. Burger was very dry and unseasoned. When you have to take every member of your parties drinks to the counter to have them refilled during a slow time the service is VERY subpar. Highlight of the meal was listening to three old guys cuss at the news being played on the tv. Canton needs a decent restaurant that offers decent prices and good service so far we haven't found that anywhere but the Camino Real on the Square. Come on Canton restaurant owners when I get better service at McDonald's then your restaurant there is a problem. read more

Clean, small town place with great service. They always keep my coffee topped off! I also get a kick out of the live music they have that I think is on Wednesdays...lots of senior citizens having a ball. Def a place to bring grandpa and grandma. Past couple times I have visited I have been disappointed with the food though. Just my opinion, the chili was mushy and tasteless. I have also been for breakfast and had biscuits and gravy, very bland. I have seen other things that look good on the menu so i will be back to give it another try because I love supporting local businesses and live music!. My friends have always enjoyed their food so maybe I just haven't found the right meal to order :( read more

Pluses nice building, big parking lot, clean restaurant. Food: bland .. But lots of it, ate there today, St. Patricks Day...corned beef good, potatoes were like left over baked potatoes, carrots and potatoes both cold. First waitress not very good, I ordered a cup of chicken noodle and she came back and said, "we're out of chicken noodle" but they're checking to see what they have back there." What's with that statement? Then she came out and erased Chicken Noodle, and wrote in Broccoli Cheese, so I see that soup is not homemade.. If they had 1/2 stars I would have given them a 2 & 1/2 star rating...probably won't be back.... read more

The American Grille is clean and attractive inside and out. There is table and chair seating for about 100 people and a small number of counter seats. Off street parking is plentiful with a large paved lot. The menu is pretty expansive with daily specials. My wife and I both chose the fried chicken (all white) for $8.99 with two sides. We both had the baked potato. She had the kidney bean salad while I had the coleslaw. With drinks the bill was $24. Interestingly, the chicken meal can be had two different ways, two breasts with two wings or three breasts. (Even though the breast pieces were not huge, that's still a lot of chicken for the money.) I noticed that the table beside us had ordered an appetizer basket of onion rings. The rings were thinly sliced, lightly coated, fried to a golden brown. Obviously hand made, they looked delicious and smelled great. Priced at $5 it seemed to be an excellent value. The chicken arrived hot and crispy. (The waitress just went ahead and brought a take-home box at the same time. Smart lady, There was no way we were finishing all that at one setting.) It was chicken was perfectly cooked and tasty. The sides were well prepared too. On this particular Wednesday evening there was a live band playing a nice mix of country music (some old some not quite so old). They were set-up in one corner and were doing a pretty fair job. Their volume level was adequate but low enough to allow for conversation. Not being from here I can't say if this was a regular occasion or not. All I know is it made for a pleasant surprise. All in all I was pleased with my experience at the American Grille and should I be back in the area I would not hesitate to dine here again. read more

Since I've stayed in Canton for work the last two weeks I have eaten at American Grille four times. This is definitely a special little diner. All my meals have been top notch. I can not tell you much about many of the side dishes because their mash potatoes with white gravy and cole slaw is just that good. I had the liver and onions tonight and I thought I was back home eating my Mom's wonderful cooking. The other entree's I have eaten were the meatloaf, country fried steak and roast beef and gravy plate. Absolutely the best meals I've had in a long time. As for the service, even though I may have had a certain server take my order and bring my dinner, all the servers kept an eye open to make sure my glass of tea never went dry. Now tell me how you can beat that? Now I'm not big on desserts but I saw they had strawberry cream pie that I've never tried before...so I ordered it and must warn you that it could certainly become habit forming....yes, that fantastic!! Last but certainly not least is the spirit of this restaurant. The name, 'The American Grille', could not be more fitting. It is the very essence of small town Americana with its down to earth common sense folk that makes America great. The food is not bad, at best. However, I've often lamented that local restaurants all too often ALL taste the same in this area. The food ranges from YUCK to not bad. Too many times I've had hot sandwiches that are slathered in butter or some oleo cooking spray to "grill 'em up" and the insides are warm to cool. The burgers are not bad here and are worth the money. I ordered the Reuben this outing- I've never had Thousand Island Dressing on a Reuben that was almost white. While nice and warm, it fell into the "grill 'em up" category- the oleo was glistening on the sandwich. Meh. I ordered the waffle fries as the side dish. Rubbery. Left 1/2 the sandwich there and most of the fries-- Big Pass on this order. The wait staff are all friendly and attentive. read more
