I did not end up scheduling surgery with this office back in 2023 due to their insistence that my BCBS insurance required 12 months of continuous therapy. It seems that they are still touting this falsity. This was not accurate, as my insurance PA was approved and insurance paid their share with a different surgeon despite not having 12 months of continuous therapy. No where in my policy did it state this was necessary, and this was confirmed by the insurance company. Not only was this an inaccurate statement, but it was insisted upon in an extremely rude manner, as if I or my insurance company did not know what we were talking about. I'm not sure why they insisted and continue to insist that this was/is true when it factually was/is false. It's one thing to have an office policy that patients must undergo 12 months of therapy to schedule surgery, but do not lie and say that this is a requirement when it's not. Alan Dulin or the AIfPS also doesn't appear in the bcbs blue card PPO provider directory, which might indicate that he/the practice is not actually in network with bcbs PPO plans. Lastly, pictures were taken during my consult, which did not happen with my actual surgeon. When I asked him why he didn't take pictures, he said that wasn't a standard experience during a consultation. In retrospect and after the negative experience with their insurance coordinator, that made me uncomfortable. I have been going to see Gayla, Dr Harris' nurse for more than 7 years (4-5 times a year) for Botox injections. She's awesome! I've met with Dr Harris and the time he takes answering all your questions builds confidence in your decisions. His medical reputation is exceptional. The girls in the front office are all very sweet and always accommodating. I would have given the clinic a 5+ star rating UNTIL TODAY. My suggestion would be if you need to finance your procedure, get a personal loan from a bank or use a credit card to avoid talking to and having to deal with KEVIN. I needed none of his assistance but he rudely included me in his day. Here's how my day ended: We recently moved to Houston but I still fly back to DFW to see Gayla. Today I got up at 3AM to catch an early morning flight for doctor appointments in Dallas. My last appointment was at 4:15 today for Botox. Because I had flown in this morning, I had taken an Uber to my appointments. It was a few minutes after 5PM when I was preparing to leave and Gayla completed my Botox treatments. As always, Gayla was very sweet and did a great job. As I was paying, a man by the name of KEVIN was standing at the counter. (I think he's over finance for the Doctors.) He announced that he was about to lock up and was "waiting on me." I politely told him I was going to need to call Uber because I had flown in from Houston to see Gayla. I noticed immediately that his attitude and tone were extremely RUDE and negative. He said, "it's a good thing it's not hot outside yet. You can wait outside for Uber" I walked into their lobby and took a seat proceeding to contact Uber requesting a pick up. Kevin followed me to the lobby. He rudely and impatiently announced "that their hours were from 8-5 and he needed to " lock up" so I would need to wait outside for my ride" I explained to him my situation and that for more than 8 years I'be been a patient and spent on average of about $2500 a year for treatments. Surely I could wait inside for the 10-15 minutes it would take for Uber to arrive? He said, "their offices were now closed and it wasn't up to him to wait the 10 minutes. I needed to go outside" My appointment was scheduled for 4:15. I couldn't help that it was a little after 5:00 now. A little kindness was all I expected. He angrily said, "that's a 15 minute appointment and our offices are now closed - You will need to wait outside!" (I had literally just finished with Gayla minutes before) For those of you who have been to their offices, you are familiar with the location. There were 2 homeless men sitting on the curb directly across the street from their building in that open field. I'm a female traveling, out of town, alone. He could have locked the door and let me out when the driver arrived. I hope none of you have to deal with this extremely rude, angry, and negative person. I had noticed KEVIN in his office in the past, but never interacted with him. He always has a scowl on his face and when he did speak it was always with a sarcastic, negative tone. if a patient you may know who I'm talking about. Because he's a team member, KEVIN represents the exceptional team of doctors and HE and HIS behavior and attitude towards patients can severely damage the reputation of the clinic. In the world we live in today, a little kindness goes a long way. KEVIN was hateful, unprofessional --- and extremely selfish and RUDE in his treatment of me, a patient. I had a deeply upsetting experience trying to schedule a breast augmentation consult as a transgender woman. I called this clinic because I'd heard they had experience with gender-affirming care -- and I was hoping to schedule with Dr. Dulin. Instead, I was told by the front desk that they don't accept insurance for breast augmentation even if it's medically necessary and covered -- because "that would be discrimination against our cisgender patients." Yes, that's an exact quote. When I said that seemed strange, she flatly responded, "No it's not." No empathy. No willingness to listen. Just a cold dismissal. I've reported this to my insurance provider, and I strongly urge other trans patients to think twice before trusting a clinic that promotes gender-affirming care on one hand, then uses logic like this when it comes time to actually provide it. I consulted with 3 different doctors and I am so glad I chose Dr. Raphael to do my surgery! I am 100% sure I wouldn't be as happy if I had gone with one of the other 2. During my consult with Dr. Raphael, he told me what he thought should be done and had other ideas that I hadn't even thought of. He is definitely an artist and in this industry, that's one of the qualities needed along with being caring. I had a facelift, laser, and tummy tuck. Being nervous is an understatement but Dr. Raphael put me at ease about having it all done at one time. I'm glad I did! I am 2 weeks out from surgery and it's already hard to see my incisions. I really wanted this institute to do my top surgery, but their finance office does not know how to code this properly for Medicare. Plenty of physicians get paid by them, and it's a matter of knowing the proper coding. We had a man who works inside of the operating room, come give a talk to a transgender support group I attend, and said Medicare does indeed pay. I've shown them proof from transmen who had their surgery paid for; typically Universities, new surgeons, etc. I was even told I couldn't purchase private insurance for this, and why should they care who pays as long as someone does? That part was confusing. I think AIPS is more about fast cash than they are the necessity of top surgery for EVERYONE who needs it! The front-line staff wouldn't let me talk with either surgeon I wanted, and it felt discriminatory to me. I am a veteran, an activist, an elder, disabled, and what people like to call a POC. Why should I settle for less than I deserve, because of an inflexible finance office, who don't want to go the extra mile once in a while? Again, it's a matter of coding this to be medically necessary, instead of just plastic surgery with Medicare! Sigh read more

She tells me that I would never to pay out of pocket cost due to the doctor not being registered for blue cross blue shields until "may/June" I asked if I could make an appointment just incase he was back in service with them by the time of the appointment. The most horrible experience I've ever had with dr Peter Raphael. Ladies and gentlemen do your research in regards to this clinic, especially with dr Raphael. He's the worst. I had my boobs done, he left one higher than the other one. I also had my nose done, horrible scars and they're visible. Had a lipo, he left some bulges of skin in one of my hips, I also paid for a fat transfer on my buttocks. I didn't see any major difference in my buttocks. I confronted this "dr" about all the complaints I had regarding the services that I paid, which it was over priced and super expensive for what it was worth. After I confronted him, he was being rude and a total a-hole, very unprofessional and gave me an attitude. I was like, you've got to be kidding me. I wish he was, but unfortunately it was all too real. So he basically said that the surgeries were done and just told me learn to live with it. Oh and by the way, "the suite" they sell u for post op, it's nothing but a cheap, simple and basic hotel room, with a poor girl there, that didn't know anything. This surgery center across the hall was excellent (Surgery Center of Texas). The doctor is excellent (Dr. Peter Raphael). The nursing staff was excellent (Each one was kind, patient, persistent and present). If the review stopped here, I would give them 5 stars. They are the reason this review caries stars at all. The business practices scare the living crap out of me. This business entity is rapidly turning into an Insurance 'bait and switch' to Cash group. I was there for an Orchiectomy, with cash on hand, plus insurance that would approve the operation. They recommended I have insurance process and cover the operation (that was a mistake that cost me 4 months of physical swelling pain tolerance for which they were not very sympathetic). In addition for those considering anything other than botom surgeries, they have a 2 year standing policy to NOT bill to insurance any BA or Facial surgeries, even if you have an insurance contract verified that covers it. If you are a cash only patient, you would do well with Dr. Peter Raphael, hands down. They are the reason an otherwise 5 star review is docked to 2 stars. They are split into 2 entities once you enter the front door, the "Med Spa on the left", and the "Surgery Center of Texas on the right". The remaining of this review is regarding the Med Spa's business practices. If you have insurance to cover your transgender procedures, go somewhere else (I've found a few others in Texas and California, I can travel to and still spend TENS of THOUSANDS less money because they are in network). Their communication speed and consistency was very lacking, I would often wait up to two weeks at a time past major milestones for return of phone calls or emails, and wouldn't get follow up information until I reached out to them. They misrepresented my max out of pocket as my deductible, and then quoted me an insurance cost higher than the cash price, then lied to me stating they 'just called' my insurance company to verify the data, as my insurance company keeps detailed records on all correspondence and told me of each time they were contacted by them. They 'accidentally' emailed me someone else identifiable medical insurance information (a HIPAA violation for certain, as a white hat, I could have gone to town on that persons info). They had unfortunate issues processing my cash payment for 2 months that required careful banker investigation and resending of the funds. At preop, they did not have my present records ready, I made calls in the patient room to resend while waiting. They attempted to have me SIGN A CONTRACT TO PREVENT ME from 'member filing' the cash paid procedures to my preapproved medical insurance. They did so during the pre-op visit within a bundle of rapid read and sign paperwork. I did not agree, and manually altered the language before I signed, and had them sign and return me a copy of my altered version. I cannot express this enough, THIS IS A TRAP, DO NOT SIGN IT!!! It bars insurance companies from pursuing claims information on your behalf. It is the unfortunate outcome of medical providers not successfully negotiating with insurance companies and instead retreating into their own rabbit holes of cash. There are, however, many medical providers whom are much better at navigating the insurance markets. These other providers must be rewarded for their success, seek them out. However, this contract also altered the procedure of the Orchiectomy from Medically Necessary (as preapproved by my insurance) to Cosmetic in terminology with their Surgery Center. As such, they refused to produce a medical insurance billing statement with CPT Codes and Procedures to me so that I can complete the medical billing claim process on my own. I requested medical records, they promised 14 business day return (2 weeks and 4 days), and they stated I could get the records from the Med Spa and the Surgery Center in one release form, and fee. The Surgery Center did not agree and requested I send a separate form (which was a different format). The Med Spa has passed the legal 15 business day (3 calendar weeks) return of medical records, and I still have not received them, a note regarding their readiness, an email, phone call, nor a note regarding their unwillingness to produce the records (please note, the Surgery Center did produce medical records on time, and without fee!). I did have an excellent surgery with excellent results and recovery. They are 'fast' with cash patience, and kinder to repeat patients (as I've noted my friends are getting better business treatment than I am at the same place, even discounted cash prices for the same procedure). At this time I CAN NOT ENDORSE anybody going to them for a procedure if you expect to get service from their business entity. When you plan to spend over $2000, for anything, proper business practices are also a necessary bedside manner. read more

When you first meet him he seems like a kind, personable and reasonable man. He comes across as confident in his ability and says "yes" I can do what you want. He talks about how good he his compared to other plastic surgeons, and that he is up to date on the latest techniques. He has his sales person Catherine there who tells you everything is great and assures you. I did hear him say something rude about a colleague in his office. All was well until post surgery. Dr Raphael over liposuctioned me. He left stretch marks across my skin, left my stomach with large low areas as well as other areas. My stomach is like a loose bag now. My hips are lopsided. Fat on one hip, no fat on the other. Gouging through my legs. My body is compensating for the missing fat by depositing it in my arms and neck and upper back. I look completely out of proportion. I was very upset and told him he took too much. He said "oh well it's done. That's what happens when you get liposuction." I wish he had told me that before. It even says in his pre-op papers that I signed, that there would be no possibility of him taking too much fat because he understood what I wanted. His nurse Lori was very rude. I asked for my money back. He said "no". He also did a lift and mastopexy. My breasts look like something out of Frankenstein. Oddly shaped with ripples. They are also very asymmetrical. He said it was from swelling. It's not. There are pictures of women on the Real Self website. It shows the mangled boob jobs he does, but it rarely shows a bad review for him. That site audits bad reviews and removes them so you don't get the true reviews about him. I believe yelp has real reviews. He's deceitful. I have no better way to describe him. He is not a man of his word. After surgery, I found he was on probation when he did my surgery. He had his license suspended more than once for a woman dying under his care. It wasn't an accident. He and his surgical team showed gross negligence. He uses poor judgement. He had removed too much fat from her. It was a few years ago. You can easily look it up and find all the details to the case. Health Grades says he has no medical malpractice sanctions against him. That's not true. The medical board suspended his license, gave it back on probation, he did not follow up and do what the Board ordered and they took it away again. Be very careful who you choose. Dr. Raphael does not care about people. read more

Honestly I couldn't be happier with my experience with Dr. Raphael and his staff at the American Institute for Plastic Surgery. Everything was streamlined and went smoothly. This staff clearly has their process down. Dr Raphael himself was a total bro, he had me cracking up before surgery and my mom was super relaxed once he was in the room. Every nurse I encountered was super kind and respectful and they gave me plenty of extra goodies to help with recovery. Unfortunately Raphael doesn't work with Insurance but he does take care credit, credit, or if you pay by cash you'll get a discount upfront of like 5% so be sure to ask about that! read more

They are professional and caring, the treatment is as near-painless as possible (for something that is going to make a real change!). I did not feel quite ready for an actual face-lift...but wanted a little "something" to help with sagging jowls and double chin...maybe a little "lift" to my eyelids...and Ultherapy just seemed custom made for someone like me. I had the procedure done yesterday and can hardly wait for the next 90 days to go by so I can see the results! I'll try to remember to return and give an update on that. I am a patient of Dr. Harris and am undergoing lip augmentation. I went in to see his nurse, Gayla, for lip enhancement fillers and I am beyond excited and satisfied with my results! They are both so highly skilled, very experienced and so kind. I can't vouch for the plastic surgery that goes on here but I can vouch for the hand surgery I received. I shattered a bone in my right hand and needed to have surgery to repair it. Dr Dulin was the lucky doctor on call at the hospital over Memorial Day weekend so he's the guy I ended up going to see. One of the great things about seeing a plastic surgeon for hand surgery? I was anxious about getting injections in my lips again because of my previous experiences with other places, but saw the reviews on Yelp and decided to just go for it. My nurse Gayla was nothing short of AMAZING! Not only is she beautiful and kind, but she truly cares about the outcome. She made sure I was completely numb before she started the procedure. The pre-operative staff were very informative and spent the appropriate time to explain the procedures I desired and the potential outcomes. The staff of the surgical clinic was very professional and made me as comfortable as possible before and after the surgery. It was after the surgeries that the behavior of the clinic changed. All of the post-operative appointments were incredibly brief. This was especially distressing during the first post-operative appointment when I was in a lot of pain. The physician examined me for five minutes before having me rushed out of the office. I was left with many concerns and questions that unnecessarily had to be addressed through e-mail. On two occasions I have had to send correspondence to get answers to concerns that could have easily been addressed had the physician given me the time. Every following pre-operative visit has been a similar five-minute visit that has been very disrespectful of the time it takes me to visit the clinic. I recommend having your primary care physician being aware of the procedures you will be getting. Especially if you suffer from any degree of respiratory illness as this plastic surgery clinic is not knowledgeable about how serious these complications can be. The combination of my procedures put me in a position where an aerosolized inhaler was very difficult to use as it was painful to inhale properly. This is information that should be included in the post-operative documentation as obtaining a nebulizer after the fact is not a feat that can be done quickly. Ultimately, I have my reservations about this plastic surgery clinic as their bedside manner went from top-notch in the surgery clinic to disappointingly unprofessional on the administrative side. While still experiencing respiratory distress from the results of the procedure I am left with a lot of doubt as to whether the clinic has the patient's best interest in mind. I am Zykiyona Patin to I must say I've never had chance to experience Dr. Raphael work but I am still the last I met him in Plano tx he was very honest and nice his assistant I guess whom is in charge of the pricing plans was considerate and nice they issued me all the helping plans that I could have when was there ,then even emailed me asking me if I wanted to email a consideration of their help and I do ,I also told them that when I was there ,I was still hoping that Dr Raphael would be able to do the procedure for me when I do get the funds for it which, I thought the price was fair at that I didn't have but now I basically do, but sense then I've tried other places like in CA which they told that Dr. Joseff Hadeed wasn't doing bottom procedure until the mid next year and i really wanted it done a bit earlier then that, so sense I've already seen Dr Rapheal and seen his work also now I'd still like him to do the procedure if he is willing and able to and hopefully if he is, I wish he'll be able to do it earlier then i n CA ,so anyway I've been trying to reach his assistant over the financing for the surgery plans but was never able to by phone or by texting hopefully this will get someone to help me get planned...thanks read more
