Firstly, they missed the fact that the child has dyslexia; instead citing general learning disabilities and were contemplating holding her back a grade. Fortunately, we had her tested privately and then pushed the school district to make accommodations. She was discovered to be twice exceptional: gifted I.Q. with dyslexia. But, the real impetus for this review was her sixth grade teacher. Here are examples of some of the things that were said (many repeatedly) in the classroom: "Don't talk to me. My alligators are out." "I am so done with all of you. Figure it out yourselves." "You were so bad yesterday that I almost called in sick today." "It's silly to believe in God." "No American should be allowed to own a gun." The teacher unleashed her scorn upon the classes in general, while seemingly targeting certain students for the worst of her wrath (generally boys). I could write a novel based on instances with this "teacher". But, the bottom line is that my child went from being someone who loved school to dreading every single day with this person.

I had an IEP form that was not accurate or understandable when reviewed by my new school. The Leading Edge staff made changes to the information without my parent or guardians permission and knowledge. I had been threatened by the vice principal that she would be calling the cops due to throwing an empty plastic water bottle at a student who was physically assaulting another kid. The school staff, withheld my transcripts when they learned I was going to another school. My parents contacted LEA MULTIPLE TIMES, even going into the school to get them before we received the transcripts. Leading Edge staff protect bullies due to their parents being on staff. These students cause problems constantly but are never addressed, creating a sense of disruption, anxiety, and fear among the students. I and other students have had things stolen from our bags multiple times, and when the staff was told that the police would be involved the item would mysteriously return the next day in our bag. For Spirit week, the principal and vice principal dressed up in onesies and pacifiers, riding tricycles and talking to students like babies. They also had scoops of ice cream in their hands which they had students, of several grades, lick off. The students were then encouraged to do the same to each other in front of the school. Some teachers and staff treated the students really well, but the majority of the staff bullied and neglected the students.

From the very first visit, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. You can tell the team really loves what they do. Our main teacher is always so happy around the children, you can feel her joy, and it really stood out compared to other places we toured. All the teachers are kind and smiling, and they take the time to connect with both the children and the parents. It's such a warm, supportive environment. Literally everyone is so nice! Another huge factor for us was safety and peace of mind. As a parent, being able to drop off your child without worrying is everything, and this preschool makes that possible. The classroom ratios are low, the environment is always clean, the sign-in process is secure, and they're thoughtful about food and nutrition. We've also had no issues with recurring colds or back-to-back illnesses, which has been such a relief. All of that makes a big difference. They've also been incredibly flexible, willing to work with us to make sure our child feels comfortable, whether that means bringing a favorite stuffy from home or making food & drink accommodations. This school is full of dedicated and amazing teachers that go above and beyond what is asked of them. I've been able to visit in nearly all the classrooms. Students are engaged and I see so much creativity among the teachers as well as students. It is a well run and organized school. The director and assistant director know all the students and have some great programs to motivate them to read and be good leaders. It is a positive environment and in each classroom I have visited the students are comfortable together, encourage each other, and do their best to help one another. As of now class sizes are fairly small but even the larger ones have some of the best classroom management I've seen. Come tour the school. It's worth checking out! read more

My two youngest children have attended ALA for 4 years and this fall began attending the Gilbert south campus. What initially attracted me was their smaller size as compared to the big public schools along with the family atmosphere. It seems that every teacher and staff member know my girls by name and they are clearly thriving both academically and socially. I truly feel that ALA Gilbert South offers a top notch education in a wholesome family atmosphere. It is very family oriented and you'll see families come together supporting the kids and teachers at any given event. Our kindergartner is autistic and she has fit in well and is flourishing there. The school provides a lot of resources and activities for the students. They have band, orchestra, student council, mathletes, a gifted and talented program, cool clubs for the kids like kickball club and card trading club and much more. Our kindergartener registered for soccer this past fall and basketball camp during Spring Break and has just had a blast. I love how I never feel awkward at events because there aren't any "clicks" amongst the parents and kids there. There is not a religious belief pushed on to the kids here either. The principal is always out walking around and engaging with students and parents every day and has made time to discuss anything necessary when we have needed help. If you are looking for a school that will encourage your children to be the best version of themselves and to learn to make good choices...this is it. We ultimately as parents just want our kids to be kind, caring human beings in this world and this is the school that will promote that.
