Me and my sister went there with my grandma and grandpa. They have a dance floor there, they have a good selection of food, good vibes all over. For the families, there is a good selection of songs to dance to, but mostly for the older ones. Maybe it is just my music taste. Either way, the food here is good, the vibes are nice. This American Legion allows smoking indoors . Drinks were great, fish spread was tasty and fresh. Nachos would be better with a good cheese sauce, the sauce we had was not tasty at all, but the rest of the nachos were good. read more

You have to be a veteran to get in here. We pulled up on the boat to grab some lunch since it's right on the water. This place is a hot-mess all around!! We had to walk around for ten or fifteen minutes until we could find a table (first come, first served!). You have to be quick cuz this place was full on the weekend. The GOOD: - seems popular with the older crowd. Was very busy - Live (good!) music - so lots of people up dancing and moving about - Food is fairly decent: we all had burgers and fries, so it wasn't anything fancy - Waitress was friendly - Prices are good The NOT-so-good: - An absolute disaster when it comes to finding a table. You have to be watching, and have to be quick or someone else will snatch the table before you, regardless of how long you've been waiting - the service is an absolute joke. Once we finally got a table, we sat there for about a half-hour before a waitress came to take our order and she only came over because one of the people in our party grabbed her as she was walking by - if you get a table close to the music, it's really loud thus you can hear the music great but cant have a conversation with your party - You have to get your own drinks either inside, or at some little mini-bar outside window thing. What a great little spot. This location is next to a Marriott hotel by the water. They have a large indoor area where they serve food and have events and a very nice deck out by the water. There is also a Tiki bar outside I had their chicken salad sandwhich and that was pretty good. The kitchen is being remodeled so the full menu isn't available right now. If your going to stop by you must be a Veteran or with a Veteran. Bring your card because they require that for food and beverages. It isnt smokey outside, the view is great and the people are friendly. read more

Docked and ate while out boating. The Cuban was the special of the day for $10. Very good, as good or better than some Cuban places. Fries cooked perfectly, slightly crispy but soft on the inside. Would definitely get again. Menu reasonable priced. Very friendly atmosphere. read more

Pleasantly surprised. This was our first visit and not our home Post. We had the show the card before ordering but it's expected. You can't beat the price of most Legion food or drinks. The bar and patio area is nice inside is well the inside of a post nothing fancy. We'll be back. read more

Went there yesterday to try to join since my mom and sister moved to St Pete. My mother, a widow of a veteran and lifetime member of American Legion , myself (Navy Vet) were treated like garbage because we didn't have the right card. We were embarrassed and humiliated by staff and other members. Disgusting people, we joined Post 252 today in Seminole. Wonderful people that helped get our memberships together. Proud to be a member of Post 252, a post that honors ALL VETERANS. read more

It's very sad that some of the bartenders don't realize or respect the out of town members when they visit..... are veterans too! I have never seen another fraternal organization that treats their customers as poorly as this place does! I think more letters should be sent to headquarters complaining about these people. read more

Stopped in yesterday afternoon with out of town friends. First time for longer than I can remember. It's still the same except no pool table and the wait staff is younger. Except for the stifling smoke (too cold to sit on deck), we enjoyed our visit and the reasonable drink costs. I understand the reason for plastic glasses but it seems sacrilegious to drink wine that way. Unfortunately I didn't get the performers name but he was outstanding and had everyone on the dance floor. It was fun. Seats were all taken but the crowd turned over quickly and we found a place quickly. The staff is friendly and proficient. We ordered a cheeseburger with fries (gravy on the side yum) and five wings. We shared and everything was fresh and delicious. The others ordered the salmon which was the special of the day. Decent portion but overdone. Consensus though was for $9.95 it was a great deal. During my children's baptism gathering, my family and i were verbally attacked and physically pushed out of the American legion post 273 by the commander and his friends who were completely annihilated. They didn't like us there or the 5 children that we had there. All they did was yell at us during the entire celebration, over the loud speaker and to our faces and to our children. They wanted us out the minute we arrived. Pushed our buttons and embarrassed us and only 4 other people were inside. Said we disrespected the legion while other children who weren't in our party were disrespectful. Police reports were made and members will no longer be members at this post. This place is a disgrace and the commander shouldn't be. read more

So, our friend told us this is the largest American Legion in the world or maybe the US, but still. The inside isn't much to look at. They have the standard dark and seedy bar and then a huge meeting hall with lots of long tables. Where the legion shines is it's outside waterfront patio with docks. AMAZING! It has a great view. We even saw dolphins! They have a seat yourself policy with a full wait staff. The outdoor tiki bar is for Legion members only, so, they have to get your CASH ONLY drinks.But, don't feel bad they're buying because the drinks are dirt cheap. The food is good and cheap too. CASH ONLY. I had a pretty decent ruben and Grandma loved the fried fish special, the guys had the cuban and enjoyed it. They have lived bands and dancing by the bar where 90 old women break it down. It's a very cool sight. Dinner and drinks on the water, dancing with grandmas, and having legion members buy your drinks. What couldn't you love about that? It's a must go if you know a member! read more

Our friends brought us by boat! It was super fun docking in front of all the patrons enjoying the live music along the waterfront. The refreshments were fabulous and very reasonably priced. It was cool to hang with so many veterans. read more

The very first time I was treated like royalty. People heard I was from Indiana and would send chips over to my wife and me for free drinks. By the 2nd drink, bartenders used our names when asking how we were doing. Brought snacks over till time for the restaurant to open. By that time they brought our order out to the Tiki bar area. When I moved to FL recently, I received an invitation to join. I joined and received a membership card for post 400. I found out this is for people who don't want to join a club. Got a flyer a couple days ago asking me to consider joining a local post. So, my wife and I drove over to check it out. After about 10 minutes a waitress came over and asked to see our card. She then said they don't accept cards from post 400. I asked her to check with the manager, because I assumed I could go to any post. She went to double check and came back and said, that they don't accept cards from post 400. I told her I'd like to speak to manager. And followed her in and stayed back as she approached a table of 6 people and I clearly overheard several people tell her that I could not be served. At this point I approached the group and asked who was in charge and a guy spoke up and told me the same thing. He refused to give me his name. I explained to them I had received a flyer asking me to consider area posts, so I came to check it out, but nope. Got to be a member. So, they just lost a potential member! Spoke to FL HQ and they said they have gotten other calls about their policy of not honoring other members or Canadian Legion members. Apparently, this particular post does not need new members, otherwise they would instruct waitresses and managers to ask people if they would like to join. I read another post from another person that was refused service, since office was closed. I'm a 20 year retired disabled veteran and I will never set foot in that post again. Three other posts have reported their members have been refused service. So, I'd stay away, they don't need new members and only allow members. read more

Stopped into this post yesterday after driving over from Tampa. I was seriously disappointed with my visit and then further insulted by the post commander (Jim). They refused to accept my post-400 American Legion membership card and serve me (they had in the past with no problem whatsoever). I spoke to the post commander only to be spoken to with insulting terms. He basically said Canadian snowbirds use post 400 and post 208 ID cards to access this post, and that I didn't even have to show a DD214 to join the Legion! (Not true at all). Not only do i have an authorized American Legion ID card, but also a valid FL drivers license with Veteran designation (which means I had to show a DD214!). I was told, tough luck buddy, we will not serve you here until I transfer my membership to another post (non-post 400/208)!!! I did notice that the post was mostly empty, not like in past visits. My guess is that they are driving away members from other posts who have helped support them financially. The location of this post is nice, on the inter-coastal and I have enjoyed my visits in the past. It will be a cold day in hell before I ever go back. The way this post commander insulted me was way beyond just explaining their membership acceptance. He was arrogant, demeaning and generally rude! (Think little man syndrome!) I don't usually write reviews, but I am putting my review up for this place because of the absolute poor treatment I received here. I also checked their post website and no mention of them not accepting post-400 memberships, although there is a mention of welcoming post-400/208 members to transfer their membership to this post! Fat damn chance I'd want to do that now after the demeaning and insulting treatment I received!!! read more

This Legion post is so elite that they don't want Canadian legionaires to use their facility. They deny admittance to Canadian Associate members because the American Legion calls them Auxiliary members. They try to blame the IRS for this, however, non-members are allowed to use the facilities in the company of members. Truly, the non-admittance is more a function of the mind-set of a few very senior Legion members than any legitimate legal reason. read more

Great place to have cheap drinks on the intercoastal waterway. Patio water view is awesome. Food is basic bar fare and well done. Live music is played often but won't overwhelm. Patriotic songs light up the crowd. Great place to hang with veterans from all over the USA. My family visits each time we are in town. read more

St. Patrick's Day was open to public and so the place was really crowded and everyone vying for seats. I am an auxiliary member and was sitting with my friend at the bar outside. I ordered two drinks and lunch. My friend one drink and lunch. We sat there at 12.30 and approx. 2 1/2 hours later the barmaid told us in a very rude fashion that we should give up our seats to people buying drinks. No one else was told this. I was in shock, told her I was a member and then ordered a coke and gave her a 4 dollar tip to appease her. We left shortly after. What a horrible experience. Never have I been asked to leave because I was not drinking enough! I pay my dues every year and this sort of rudeness is really off-putting. read more

After 30 years of visiting this post we were denied service because my husband holds an associate membership. That is very discourteous to visitors. As they have auxiliary memberships themselves I think this is wrong on many fronts. Our local legion invites all legion members with open arms. Shame on you. read more

Went to the Legion with my aunt and uncle while visiting them in Largo from Rhode Island....we don't have anything even close to this in RI...as a 'Nam combat vet who never joined anything veteran related (except DAV) it was real nice to hang out on the deck on the bay as boats came and went and had a beer and a sandwich...everyone was friendly and older and just enjoying life..and no cigarette smoke! Hope I can sell my house here and move down nearby..I'd be a 'regular.' lol read more
