It was absolutely worth the trip. Before the food arrived, I had the chance to chat with the owner, who shared that much of the lumber in the restaurant came from his family's farm. That small conversation told me a lot about the place. It feels authentic, welcoming, and built with care. As someone who loves BBQ, I know competition BBQ and restaurant BBQ are very different. The owner comes from a competition background, and he has clearly mastered the restaurant side. I ordered the turkey melt because turkey is one of the best tests of a smoker. No sauce needed. The smoke was spot on, the avocado balanced it perfectly, and my wife's brisket sandwich was excellent. The surprise star of the meal was the green beans. At a BBQ restaurant, that's not something I expected to say, but our entire group loved them and we're still talking about them. If the latter is the case, then they blew it with me. I managed to sneak by their ever vigilant eyes. I, a tourist from Southern California, sporting a USC hat, at first sight looked out of place.
