American Mercantile is a very "country", craft-themed flea market. It has much of the same garbage that populates many flea markets including home crafted candles, overpriced Hot Wheels, $1 VHS tapes, etc. It is, however, quite a large building and there were no empty booths. If you can tolerate listening to contemporary Christian radio while you wander through the labyrinth of cubbies trying to remember which aisles you've been though before, there are a few pockets of interesting items that can be stumbled upon. I found a few noteworthy items, including the bizarre "Black Like You" book which was an "uncorrected proof for limited distribution" version for $2, and some odd art pieces including the photographed creepy doll head attached to a candle holder. The mood and atmosphere were not to my taste, however there are probably a hundred different vendors so there is plenty of possibility for unique item and for variations in price. read more

Strange shop- it's so everything that it feels like it's having an identity crisis. I walked in thinking I was in something totally different from the vendor portion in the back. One of the staff actually seemed offended when I implied it might be an antique mall and responded it was not....the same one who later appeared and hovered while I examined a piece of glassware, mentioning it was fragile (little did she know I'm an experienced glass dealer and antique shop owner myself). Glad there was a more friendly and helpful staff person manning the front. Love the fact there's a trifecta of vintage shops right there to discover but this one may not be the strongest of the three. read more

This place is pretty amazing. I go every few weekends just to look at the stuff the vendors have. Most vendors are quality, not cheap wholesale reselling. Very few overprice, and when they do it's not by much. You can also make offers and try to haggle and they're nice enough to call the vendors for you to try and work a deal. I have visited the American Mercantile multiple times and I even drive 70 miles one way just to go there. I have never had anything but exceptional service and help. On occasion I decided "not" to buy something and then get home and regret it - each time I have called and the amazing staff have pulled the item and allowed me to pay over the phone and then I pick it up the next time I am in the area. This is an amazing store with quality merchandise and prices. Vendors have costs for their booth , time and products - you can't expect them to have cheap prices. I am in need of two dressers for our bedroom. Drove about 20 miles to get to the store. Yes businesses are not open, but they were. I went and said I could really do better shopping if I could use your restroom. The girl at the desk said, they don't have public restrooms any more. I don't remember needing one there before, but she said "any more" I thought that was strange. I went to a gas station down the street, no problem ! I did not go back I think I'll check with the county if they are not permitted to have a restroom for their customers . Disgusting if they're not permitted to provide one or they just don't want to bother anymore. This is a large warehouse type place, I'm sure I'm not the only one that may need a restroom to be able to enjoy shopping. read more

The best resale shop in Medford. Super nice owners and employees. The venders that sell there are amazing too. I have come to know several of them personally while shopping there and would recommend this place above all others in the Rogue Valley. I can always find something useful or fun to buy. Lots of items are handcrafted. Not talking about granny's tissue cover! But cool up-cycled great finds. Vintage Recycling at its best! LOVE the American Paint Co. mineral paint they carry. Great colors that can't be found anywhere else in the valley. This place is worth a stop on your treasure hunt trip. This place is always clean and no funky smells that you sometimes come across in other resale shops. Once again a kudos to the vendors that sell fantastic items there. Very unprofessional...just had an unbelievably bad experience at this store. I was trying to buy a dining set on the phone (saw an ad posted on FB by their MCM vendor) but the dimensions weren't listed so I called the shop. Krista (co-owner w/ her husband) told me the set was available, and she went back to measure it. She enlisted the help of her husband to pull the draw leaves and examine the condition, and at that time she suggested that she send me some photos. Her husband was right there while she was speaking to me on the phone. She took the photos right away and I immediately called her back to give my approval. When I did she said another customer had grabbed the ticket and had purchased the set. Her husband had sold it. She said she was sorry. So, during the 30 seconds it took for me to call her back they sold it to someone else. Dismayed, I then called back and spoke with her husband. He LIED to me telling me that it had already been sold before I had even asked about it, but that was obviously a lie because he had just been back there when she was measuring it, describing the condition, pulling out the leaves, and taking the photos to send to me. They did not get their story straight...but so easily caught in this lie...not really sure how dumb they think people are. Her husband even claimed that it had already been loaded up and was no longer on the premises. Wow...that was fast! The lying is inexcusable but it shows so little integrity and customer service to actually be on the phone buying it and then have them sell to another customer (who I gleaned from his comments was also purchasing another item). Obviously, because I wasn't there in person to ward off these shenanigans, they took advantage and decided to say "screw the out of town buyer". Never again will I shop at this pathetic store. read more

Most HORRIBLE experience there yesterday. I was up from Yreka shopping. Went through the market. They said they were closing. I was walking out the door. Asked them to please wait. I think I lost my keys. The two women working there (One curly black hair the other one Very large with short blonde hair) said they could not help me. in a hurry to leave..I said I live in Yreka can you please let me walk back through. Lady with black curly hair in pony tail said NO! we are closing for the day. I left, walked over the collectors market where I was previously, and at this point in total tears, as I walked in door the lady spotted me and said "you lose your keys honey?". I said yes! I will never ever go back to American Mercantile. I was going to have lady that works there order a table for me from her husband who builds them, since she was so rude..NEVER. They are supposed to be about "Country" and helping people out....they were Horrible. They should not be called "American". read more
