I chose this dental office because of their claims to help patients with dental anxiety, positive reviews, and convenient location, but my experience was anything but positive. At my first visit for a painful tooth, they took numerous X-rays with almost no explanation or communication. The dentist eventually came in, briefly told me what needed to be done, and I was sent off with antibiotics. No X-rays shown, no real discussion. During the root canal, despite explaining my anxiety and mild claustrophobia, they tried to force in an oversized plastic piece without a word. When I couldn't tolerate it, they only then tried a less massive option. The chair was reclined so far that my head was below my hips, which made the experience even more stressful. I was left hanging like that for nearly two hours without a break to sit up. Later, no aftercare instructions were provided. The billing was just as frustrating. Because of an error on the claims form, the insurance sent the reimbursement check to me instead of the office. When I brought in the payment, the office manager was defensive and rude, blaming the insurance despite it clearly being their mistake. A few days later, I received the exact same payment request again, despite already having paid, and with proof of payment. Not sure, what goes on in their office, but it seems pretty disorganized to me. I really wanted to like this place, but this was one of the worst dental experiences I've had. My Experience at This Dental Office (Feb 2024): In February 2024, I visited this dental office and had one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a healthcare provider. From the start, things felt off. The dentist--with obvious lip injections and green contacts--began reviewing another patient's paperwork, thinking it was mine. I told her clearly that it wasn't my file. That should've been my cue to leave. I explained that I knew what I needed: I wanted to see the hygienist for root planing and scaling. Instead of listening, the dentist dismissed my concerns and told me I should "get off the internet" and stop trying to diagnose myself. I told her, I know my body, and I repeated that I wanted to see the hygienist. At checkout, I made it clear: I never want to see that doctor again. I asked to be scheduled with the hygienist only. They booked me for a Saturday appointment. When I showed up on Saturday, the hygienist told me she couldn't do the procedure--because no doctor was present. I asked why I was scheduled in the first place. She checked and confirmed I did need root planing and scaling, but said the dentist had overridden it and said I "only needed a cleaning." I called the manager and told them exactly how I felt. I said they had someone incompetent working for them and that I didn't appreciate the dismissive comments. The manager didn't seem to care. What they did do was contact Yelp to get my review taken down--and Yelp complied. So here's the truth: I would never recommend this place. I don't trust the judgment, professionalism, or integrity of this team. read more

I waited a long time to make this review until I was sure that I didn't have to come back to this location. I was referred to American River dental because they are supposed to specialize in dealing with anxiety with special needs and special cases. They offer dental work under anesthesia, which was necessary in my case. I have medical conditions which make me anesthesia resistant, I have medical trauma, and I am on the autism spectrum. I went here because they were supposed to deal really well with all of these things. Apparently, they only deal well with these things if you are very, obviously a child on the special needs spectrum. They do offer low impact days for clients like that, and I did actually asked to be seen on one of those days and was denied. I told them upfront about all of my history and my conditions, and they did not treat me with any type of special care. They did not do anything extra special to ease my anxiety. I had to specifically ask them to remove all of the dental instruments in from in front of my face while I was waiting for the dentist to arrive, because I was already having panic attacks just looking at the drills. they acted like this was an inconvenience. I have many moments where at this location their treatment of me just caused more severe trauma, instead of helping me. But on top of all of this, I received subpar dental care. I've never had a feeling break from another location, but I had the same feeling break four times under their care, and another filling fail once. even though they say their work is under warranty for a year, I had to fight with them to get these visits covered, especially because I do require some type of sedation help, so even though it was completely their fault that the dental work failed, I still did have to pay almost $1000 out-of-pocket for each visit. On top of all of that, they scheduled me months and months out so that the last two fixes were outside of the year window and then, even though I had clarified with them beforehand, they still tried to fight me over having to pay for it. in the end, I just let my last filling go broken and open with me in pain for the last six months because I was so terrified to call them back. Their phone lady is not easy to deal with, She is not kind and understanding, the doctors did not treat me with extra kindness or care. I ended up going back to Cedar dental who is absolutely incredible. They are kind and understanding, and they are willing to deal with dental anxiety of patience with any age. They have made me feel safe and comfortable. My entire experience with American River dental was incredibly disappointing. For a business that advertises themselves for anxious patients, they do a very poor job. I will definitely never be coming back. TLDR; made dental trauma even worse, provided subpar dental work requiring an additional five visits that should have been completely unnecessary. Absolutely do not recommend. read more

If you want to get milked like a money cow this is your dentist. Their receptionist is a total rude twit who thinks she is above the patient. I would let them take care of a dead rat. I need a tooth pulled because my orthodontist could not do a root canal because the tooth was cracked. But he had taken all x-rays and gave me a copy and a referral. However this new dentist would not use the already provided x-rays in order to milk me for more money. So I canceled the appointment. I have had a screaming tooth ache for a month. I would not recommend calling this place to question their charges. I took my son in for X-rays and dental work, paying over $400 for the visit. Two weeks later, I noticed one of his teeth was discolored, so I scheduled another appointment. This time, they charged another $300 for a consultation and another set of X-rays--despite having just done them two weeks prior. After calling around, I found that other dental offices charge only $89 for a full-mouth X-ray, cleaning, and consultation. I called this office back to ask why their prices were so much higher, just to understand if there was a reason for the significant difference. Instead of a professional response, I was met with hostility from Amber at the front desk. She became defensive, telling me, "Your son keeps coming back," and that "if you want to go somewhere else, you can." She even went so far as to say that she "has to put her foot down because he keeps coming back." As an adult, I obviously know I have options, but if their initial exam had been thorough, I wouldn't have needed to come back so soon for another set of X-rays. All I wanted was a reasonable explanation--whether they offer something additional or simply charge more. Instead, I was met with disrespect, unprofessionalism, and a dismissive attitude. I wanted a second opinion for my daughter's treatment. The staff was very helpful and patient with getting the appointment scheduled. At our visit the staff was so friendly. They were gentle with taking X-rays and ensuring my daughter had a good experience. We were seen by Dr. Mann who was so kind. My daughter loved her! I was so grateful that Dr. Mann took time explaining everything to me and answering all my questions. The office staff Amber was very rude and condescending. She also hung up in my face after I called requesting to speak the manager and said I didn't want to argue or go back and forth with her. My husband spoke with her previously and she had the same rude dismissive attitude with him. Extremely unprofessional. I recently came in for a dental cleaning and my experience went wonderfully. From a quick check-in to a friendly hygienist made me feel welcomed. I'm an anxious person and going to the dentist makes my anxiety level go up, up and away. I've been coming here for years and the level of care I receive is the BEST! I started my first ortho treatment at my adult age and the journey was rough, but Dr. Soltani, and his assistant gave me all of the information I needed to be prepared. For someone who gets this anxious, I had a list of questions ready to ask Dr. Soltani in preparation for my visit. He answered all of my questions and provided more information that I didn't even think of. My teeth ended up looking so great! If you want your teeth to not only look good, but feel good, then head over!! By the way, the fish tank is still one of my favorite things to see. I think the tank has a lot more fishes now which is so cool to see. read more

I love my old dentist so much that I was willing to travel back to San Diego for all of my dental needs. However, last week, my crown fell off. And, there was no way I could fly to see my dentist on such short notice. So, I needed to find someone local. I found American River Dental on Yelp. And, although there were mixed reviews, I felt good about contacting them. And, I am very happy I did. Their office is both warm and professional. I love the hygienists add American River dental! The change in management and office staff is something to be desired. For example, office hours under the renowned doctor Acheson went from 7 AM to 7 PM Monday through Fridays and 7 AM till 1/130 on Saturdays. With only two hygienist it takes seven months to get in for a six month follow up. The office staff takes two months to reply back for a concern and then makes an appointment without patient consent. I think they are trained but do not always act or perform as so. Speaking for myself and a couple friends, we would leave the practice if it were not for the legth of time we have been patients there and of course the fabulous dental hygienists. read more

Over the weekend I got in a bad accident where I ended up chipping more than half of my front tooth. I was absolutely horrified & devastated. First thing Monday morning I called American River Dental - my original dentist told me they couldn't help until two weeks out ... ARD took me in within the hour, no problem. Dr. Soltani & Natalie (RDA) are absolutely AMAZING & serious magicians. They kept me calm, reassured me throughout the entire appointment, talked me through everything they were doing, & have the BEST keen eyes. When I saw my new smile, I cried. They fixed my tooth within an hour & it looked IDENTICAL to my original tooth - shape, color, & all!! I hate going to the dentist, lol. But Dr. Soltani & Natalie created such a wonderful experience after my horrible incident. I could not recommend this office and both of them enough! Discriminators against people with MH issues while advertising as someone who helps people with special needs and anxiety, inconsistent customer service, poor communication. HIPAA violation threats from management when stating a review detailing my experience would be left. I went in for a root canal and some fillings, as an anxious person with disabilities I was under the impression this was Dr. Holm's specialty. Turns out, that is not exactly true, and they will lie to you and discriminate against you when you are truthful about what you're dealing with. When I was given an outrageous quote for a root canal that only gave the most expensive option available with no discussions, I was tearful. 3500 dollars over and above insurance was a terrifying amount, and knowing I had no options was both stressing and scary. I left so as not to cry in the office in front of strangers and my husband remained. On 3 separate occasions the receptionist Sheri said she would call us back "in an hour" to solidify the appointment.   On all of those occasions we had to call her back 5 hours later, only to find out she had left the office for the day. Naturally, given that there was a great deal of pain involved and that this was time sensitive my husband and I were frustrated. We expressed our concerns to the staff on the phone and were told by Dr. Holm 3 days after the last time we tried to deal with Sheri that I was "quick to anger" and "sedation isn't for people like you". At no time was the miscommunication on the part of Sheri addressed, or taken into consideration. They left me hanging for weeks waiting for an appointment only to blame me and my mental illness for not following through with the appointment. This is very discriminatory. After speaking with many doctors in pain management, psychiatry and internal medicine I have come to find out that his take on sedation is absolutely and unequivocally false. When I asked for my medical records I was given the run around several times by office manager Mike, when I asked they be sent by mail to my home I got a copy of the fillings pamphlet and a privacy notice I signed, nothing more. I asked for them again, and received Dr. Holm's notes, which clearly state his discriminatory stance on people with MH issues, and this cannot be disputed. When I said I would be leaving a review and contacting an attorney Mike the office manager threatened me and told me he would send all of my information to his attorney as well and charge me with slander for telling the truth. I informed him that sending my personal health info to ANYONE was a violation of HIPAA and I would be following up on that claim/threat. I have the emails to prove it, and will happily share with anyone who wants proof of what this office does to clients who are in need of special handling due to disabilities. It is also note worthy that they will charge your insurance for a exam and consult without ever putting you in a chair. The first visit I waited 45 minutes past the appt time for the doctor and got no real treatment. He asked invasive and unnecessary questions about my mental health, who, what and where I was being treated for things that have no relevance in dentistry. (He then proceeded to use these things against me in a discriminatory manner.) I also see that Mike the office manager has responded to reviews on this site, releasing HIPAA protected information about patients in a public forum before, so the track record is clear as day. I was also told my x-rays would be free because they couldn't open the file my previous dentist sent them, then they charged me for it anyway, refunded me, THEN SENT ME A BILL. I eventually got the bill taken care of but this speaks to their inability to communicate. UPDATE: Mike the office manager has now admitted by email that I am well within my rights to post a review. So it is clear that his threats of slander charges were retaliatory, and meant to be an intimidation tactic to deter me from telling the truth. Not today, Mike. Maybe with other patients but not with me. read more

We are long-term, extremely satisfied patients of American River Dental. For the past 25-plus years, we've been seeing Dr. Riach for all things dental. What a wonderful man and great dentist! But Dr. Riach recently retired and we faced the suburban horror of replacing a long-term Dentist. Fortunately, Dr. Riach's spot has been filled by Dr. Soltani. I saw him recently for the first time with a dental emergency. Dr. Soltani immediately adjusted his schedule to see me within an hour. He was such a professional and patient man and dentist! He is a good listener, too. I really can't say enough positive things about Dr. Soltani, and we HIGHLY recommend him. The compassion they had to talk with her and make her feel comfortable has changed her life and how she views going to the dentist. We can't thank them enough. My son was a patient of Acheson before retirement and he was great. Unfortunately, the office has bottomed out since his departure. Dr. Soltani took over his practice of medically complicated kids and he does not manage his staff. The "office manager" Mike doesn't return calls or emails. He doesn't send receipts for payments and Shelly, the office hospital scheduler is rude and a finger pointer. They have put off my son's procedure for FIVE front teeth (bridge) for 2 years now. Because they are the only office in the area who will do these procedures, they are abusive and dismissive. I've left messages for Dr, Soltani himself, without return. American River Dental is amazing. My husband is in the hospital and needed a dental exam (which led to a tooth extraction) before he could be moved for surgery. Mike at ARD was wonderful organizing it all and was so helpful and pleasant to work with. Dr. Soltani was actually able to do the exam earlier than originally planned and my husband said he was a really good dentist and did a great job. My family and I have been going to this dentist for years to see Dr. Holm and Acheson. Ever since American River Dental was acquired by Dr. Soltani, the practice has gone downhill! They fail at good communication informing their patients appropriately pertaining to procedures and payment plans. My father was denied moving forward with his scheduled appointment unless he was to pay the full balance and 1/3 of total cost for current visit and was given 1 hour notice. My mother has had a payment plan for years and was never forced to suddenly pay a balance day of in order to see her dentist on a scheduled day/time for an important matter. Now all of a sudden, under Dr. Soltani's management and lack of customer service, payment plans are not offered past a 3 month period. We will ALL be looking for a new dentist and highly suggest others do as well! I have seen the comparison in business ethics from back when Dr. Acheson led the practice, and I'm not at all impressed. Disappointing experience! I also see that we are not the only ones that feel this way about the practice since the transition :( Sad how new ownership can completely ruin a business! I had to have 2 implants done after so much bad work from previous dentist. My insurance referred me to Dr. Sultani. I'm was an expert at finding terrible doctors, and dealing with terrible pain inflicted by the same, until I found Dr. Sultani. Dr. Sultani is by far the best dentist I've ever seen. He pays attention to detail, his dental work is the best you'll ever see. I have Fibromyalgia, and my pain levels can be high, Dr. Sultani has always made sure to ask how I'm doing during my treatment, his wisdom in the dentistry field is outstanding, he knows a lot of little tricks that other doctors don't. I can't give him enough praises for the outstanding work he does, he is truly a God sent. The staff in this office is the best you'll ever run across, they are kind, considerate, thoughtful, gentle, super respectful. I rarely do reviews, but you ALL deserve the praises and recognition!!! visit on 3/5/24 I had Dr Min and Brittany Asher assistant. everyone was very nice. Front office was nice. Brittany was nice and I believe the doctor has great skills. Unfortunately, I think that just not a lot of explanation for what they do during the procedure. This plastic thing was shoved in my mouth without me, knowing what it was first I think that should be shown first to the patient. Let them know what it is and where are you going to do with it. The assistant had very very long red nails, which I don't think it's professional. Here was uncontained not really professional either, but I believe the doctor. Molly is a good dentist. Dental visits have historically been easy for me. No, I have crap teeth - I've been lucky enough to not have issues with dental visits or procedures. That being said, these folks are simply wonderful. Accommodating, kind, fun and concerned with the comfort of the patient. It's that last part that really stands out. Dentist asking three times during a procedure if I'm at all uncomfortable. The assistant placing a pillow under the head. And, the front office professionals ensure I understand each charge, each insurance benefit and schedule according to my needs. Please, if you're looking to move from one provider to another - give these folks an opportunity. I believe you'll experience the same success. read more

My hygienist Cheri is the very best! (My husband and three adult children are also Cheri's patients). I love that she has a gentle touch and always makes sure my mouth is suctioned out so I don't feel like I'm drowning. She is kind, super friendly, and makes each visit a positive experience. After waiting almost 2 months for an appointment and coordinating for a babysitter for my newborn son, I come in with my paperwork and the receptionist tells me the doctor is in with an emergency case and that someone should have called me. Okay well I'm there and no one called me. You have FOUR receptionist and not one of them called me. So unorganized and completely NOT okay.
