This is going to be a negative review but needs to be done for the safety of their future clients. My little brother came here recently to get his wisdom teeth removed, they preformed the surgery fine but it's the after care that is completely unacceptable. I had my wisdom teeth removed years ago (somewhere else obviously) but because of that I know the process. My brother did not receive the plastic syringe for the after care and it's been weeks now and luckily through my insurance I was able to run and pick one up. The point of the plastic syringe is to fill with water and clean the wound in your mouth post eating. If not, you have open pockets that can fill with food, which will essentially rot and cause pain and infections. The dentist and technicians should have given him directions PRE surgery and after. If it wasn't for me explaining my recovery care, he may have never know. Which would have resulted in an infection, hence more $$ spent on something that could have 100% be prevented. Lisa was calm and professional as she walked me through the onboarding process and got me scheduled. The assistant who took my X-rays was also very kind, and I appreciated that their equipment is new and offers several less-invasive ways of taking X-rays and photos. SCAM WARNING My wife scheduled a standard teeth cleaning at this office, but they refused to perform it. Instead, they pressured her into agreeing to a deep cleaning, which isn't covered by insurance. She explained that every other dental office she's visited always gave her the option to choose between a regular cleaning and a deep one. In fact, the hygienist initially said her teeth weren't in bad shape--but still wouldn't proceed with a standard cleaning. When she pointed out that this approach isn't typical, the front desk staff responded, "That's disheartening that other offices let you choose your cleaning." After more than an hour of back and forth, they tried coercing her to pay $140 for a deep cleaning. They event went as far to say she can finance the payments if she can't afford it. She walked out without ever receiving treatment for the routing cleaning service that was supposed to be free. I have an upcoming appointment next Monday, I'll be canceling it. Beware! They will bill your insurance for services you did not receive, even when you decline them such as X-rays or fluoride. And they ask you to get a full set of X-rays every 6 months, something most insurances only cover every 5 years. They told me they eat the cost if insurance refuses. Sounds like a money grab to me. I am a new patient to this dentist office after recently moving to Sacramento, CA. The office is very modern, clean, and bright with all the latest equipment including digital x-rays and images. The dentist and owner Dr. Michael Castillo was very professional and reviewed the x-rays and images with me. I saw my former dentist frequently, so there were no real surprises. He made some suggestions but did not excessively push anything. Their insurance coordinator, Jennifer, called my insurance and verified what services I was ready for and what was covered and not covered. When I stated that I did not want some optional services that were not covered by my insurance, they did not argue or try and convince me otherwise. Two days later, I went back to visit Bochi, their dental hygienist. She was very professional, very gentle, and explained what she was doing. Between the numbing gel she used and her gentle technique I felt very little pain for my deep cleaning and I have very sensitive teeth. She also spent significant time after the ultrasonic scaling using manual scaling tools and in my experience with other hygienists, they don't like to do this because it is time consuming, but it hurts a lot less than the ultrasonic scaler. In summary, this was a very pleasant experience. I could go back for cleaning every week! read more

I was excited when I found out Mather Modern Dentistry was opening next to Sprouts because it's literally walking distance from me. Making an appointment was seamless. You can call them directly to schedule one or use their online system, which is super user friendly. Before your appointment, you complete some new patient paperwork online, which saves you time when you get to your appointment. Their online system, Smile Generation My Chart, is also pretty cool. You can see your your upcoming appointments, schedule an appointment, send a message, view billing information, and more. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the receptionist and very soon after, taken to a room for X-rays. Then, I waited briefly in another room for my cleaning. Dr. Castillo walked into the room, introduced himself, and greeted me warmly. He was very friendly and put me at ease. Dental offices give me a little anxiety but his bright smile immediately calmed my nerves. He did the cleaning himself and his dental hygienist assisted him. He uses a laser to clean your teeth. The cleaning was quick (no longer than 10-15 minutes) but very effective. My teeth were squeaky clean and visibly white afterwards. They also give some pretty neat toothbrush kits as you're leaving. The receptionist told me to take two. The toothbrush they gave me is honestly the best toothbrush I've used. The bristles are sturdy but also soft and get in between all the crevices of your teeth. They will not allow you to use some of your benefits for example metal with ceramic molar and up charge you for a cerefired one. Deltacare doesent pay them much so the pass on charges to customer. I typically hate going to the dentists. I have had experience with dentists trying to convince me to do extra work and cost me hundreds of dollars more than what it is needed. Six months ago a dentist told me I needed a crown but I didn't do it cause I felt uncomfortable. Here, Dr. Castillo said my teeth looked great and there was nothing too concerning. He immediately put me at ease. He was nice and offered great advice on how to deal with minor issues. The staff were also nice and comforting. I will definitely be back. read more

I don't know why some of the low reviews for this office. I've been here 5 times in the last 41 days. I've had xrays, tooth removed, bone graft, and today a deep cleaning. The staff are nice and personable. Dr. Castillo has been great. The oral surgeon was great. The hygienist I had today Dr. Bochi Li was awesome. She was nice, caring, and beautiful . She asked me many times how I was doing and if I was comfortable. I was nervous about the procedure going in but she made me feel safe and calm. Thank you to everyone there. Unethical business practices- Dr. Michael Castillo refuses exam and cleaning to healthy pregnant patient. Wants to force patient into taking X-rays for revenue generation. Beware that Mather Modern Dentistry is disorganized and receptionist is condescending and has no business tact. She drinks Starbucks while talking to patients and has no professionalism. They are discriminatory against patients that they feel will not maximize revenue for their practice. They were aware that patient would decline x-rays due to pregnancy, but scheduled any way and declines patient when they arrive to appointment. Mather Modern Dentistry canceled two appointments last minute after patient shows up. 1st appointment, they refused service and requested a letter from OB to clear for Dental cleaning. After patient obtains letter and clearly states no x-rays, they reschedule appt. 2nd Appt, they leave a message patient 10 mins on the day of appt to refuse cleaning unless patient takes x-rays. Highly recommend establishing care with another Dentist as this practice is all about making money. They are a part of the Smile generation group and their cluster of practices have guidelines to maximize growth and profitability over the treatment and care of patients. This is typically tied to franchised dentistry which is backed by Investors that provide debt to open these clinics. Investors have benchmarks that need to be met so Franchised dentists aggressively find ways to increase revenue through add- on services and more expensive procedures. Often times, the staff try to steer patients to more expensive and intense treatments than necessary. They will request excessive x-rays if you have insurance. Typically 6-12 months even when patient has no dental problems. This is more than what ADA recommends- which is every 3 years for a healthy patient. Beware that this practice is novel, disorganized, and cares more about profitability than patients. Find an INDEPENDENT Dentist that is about patient care. read more

Brought my son in here about a month ago...For such a nice location, this dental office should be poppin and busy, but they are not. And my best guess would be because the front office staff is rude. They do NOT make you feel welcome and they give off a very weird and unpleasant vibe. I even heard them gossiping and rolling their eyes about someone who I'm assuming works there. My sons cleaning and exam.... The only way I can describe it.... Is they seemed like they were in a hurry and very much so rushing. Six month ago, I went in for dental cleaning. The dental hygienist was personable and kind. The doctor was reasonably nice. The office was clean and organized. However, the front desk person was grumpy or too serious. She's the same six months later. Second visit was not pleasant. The front desk person is short and grumpy. The dental assistant was the same. She took X-ray and pictures of my teeth by throwing out orders. Customer service and common manners were totally lacking that I wonder if they hate their job or it's just because they didn't have coffee at 9am. Or perhaps I looked like a young teen that she didn't find the need to be polite to?! The trash can in the bathroom was overfilled with trash from previous day(s). The trash cans in the front office was also overfilled that used cups were just laying on the carpet and lid was wide open. The whole scene was right in front of the front desk person. There was a total lack of care. It's not expected for a doctor office environment especially a brand new one. The dentist was the same. But with the overall experience, there are definitely better dental office out there. read more

I went to this dentist to get emergency care because I had an abscess. After taking 3 X-rays,it was decided that I needed 2 teeth on bridge that needed to be removed. I was seated in the chair. He stuck a needle in my gum and held it in my gum. Pretty normal but nope. I was in excruciating pain and was jumping out of the chair and he continued to hold the needle in my gum until He was ready to take it out. It took me several minutes to calm down after he took the needle out. I was exhausted. Also I was charged $600 for the extractions which is on the upper end for pricing. I then called the office and spoke with the office manager to discuss denture pricing. They were also on the upper end of pricing and I told her that I couldn't afford their prices. I returned to the office the next day and requested copies of my X-rays, filled out the form and was told I would get them by the end of the day. They never came! Today I went back into the office. I confronted the office manager. She couldn't a rats a-- about me so I called her a liar because she never sent me the X-rays. She threatened to call the cops if I didn't leave the office and I said do it I'll be waiting for them to come. I went back to my car to look up the California Dental board address, and finally got an email from her with the X-rays. Do not, do not ever use this dentist office ever ever!
