3/9/26 talked to Bryan at 12:25 about noise in left front wheel. I brought car in at 2:20 pm and it was being checked out by 3:05. Diagnosed noise fr backing plate. Also id'd left front bearing needed to be replaced. Work completed and picked car up 3/10 at 1:10 pm. I continue to be happy w service and speed w which work is completed. Service was on 3/20/26. Have been taking my cars to American Tire for 8 years now. Never had a problem until this visit. Took my car in for Transmission Fluid Service that they recommended was needed on a previous visit. Price = $200.00. When I dropped the car off, the price was the same and I signed off on it. Received a phone call a few hours later and was told that the pan gasket needed to be replaced as the pan had to be removed. Was told that the price for the service now would be $780.00. Almost 4 times more. No way. Did not get the service done. On 2 occasions I was given the one price, now it is 4 times more when the car is in your bay. Common!!! They knew the make, model and year of car and should have known the pan needed to be dropped and gasket replaced. They should have provided the correct price initially and then I would have made the decision accordingly. This IMO is deceptive pricing. Not sure I will be back. read more

This is the second time I have brought a vehicle to this shop and I must say, they are professional, courteous and honest! First time was approximately a year or so ago when I took my '05 Element there because of a slow leak in one of the tires. Dropped it off and was quickly called back that the leak was due to normal pitting of the alloy rim. They took the tire off, cleaned the rim and refilled the tire. While there, I asked them if I should replace the tires as winter was approaching and they told me no, there is plenty of tread left on the tires. At the end of the day...No Charge!! 2nd time was today. Dropped off my wife's Subaru which had a nail in it and got the call that the nail didn't go all the way through. They pulled the nail and did the water/bubble test. No leak and once again NO CHARGE! Thanks American Tire!!! read more

I have been bringing my Buick Enclave here since I purchased it last year. I bring it in for maintenance as needed. They are so honest and never come up with "additional issues". Their prices are reasonable, the waiting room is comfortable and provides free coffee, water and television. The waiting room is quiet and I use this time to read or just enjoy the peace and quiet and kid-free environment. Another plus is the bathroom is SO clean. I purchased 4 tires here 2&1/2 years ago they were under warranty that I paid for , which was supposed to cover a new tire if it couldn't be fixed, I brought it back to repair a tire that had a large screw in it , it couldn't be fixed so I should have gotten a new tire but ... no they don't make them anymore . Also I was told they were run flats because that's what I'm supposed to have there is no jack or spare . I ask why would the tire go flat if it's a run flat the man said it isn't a run flat . I was told they were I paid 1500$ for four run flats that weren't . I had to buy 4 new tires plus alignment . 1200$ later no although they were friendly and took me in right away I am still very upset that I paid for a useless warranty and wasn't offered. Stay away... Charged $267 to install 4 tires on a Hyundai Kona. Bought on tirerack and had shipped to AT as a "Recommended Installer". I had 4 tires from tirerack installed on the same car at AT a few years back for $32/tire. Buyer beware. Will never use them again. read more

The staff is very knowledgeable and talented, they get the job done! We have a Jeep that had a mystery leak that they resolved along with many years of excellent maintenance service on our Subaru. American Tire and Auto are absolute thieves!!! My wife took my step son's car in for a 60k service and they fleeced her out of $2600.00 dollars for a service that shouldn't have been more than $500.00 dollars. They told her she needed struts and stabilizer end links (which she absolutely didn't need!) Had they called me with an estimate, I would've laughed in their faces! She didn't know any better and was railroaded to buy parts and services she didn't need! Avoid this place like the plague, they're shady ripoff artists! I would not recommend this tire place to anyone. First, I was told that the price to plug and patch a tire (I had a large screw in my tire) depends on how expensive your car is...seriously I asked how much is would be and was told that since my car wasn't the expensive model, it would only be $40. Not only was that comment offensive to me, the tone in which it was spoken to me was very uncomfortable as well. Needless to say, I know several people in town who have used their services, and I will be reaching out to them to share my experience. So, I am updating and changing my review. I spoke with Ken (very courteous and helpful) today from the Flemington location and he definitely rectified the situation and apologized for my experience. He listened and assured me that it will never happen again and I believe him. The employee that was offensive to me does not work in Flemington (he was covering for someone). Ken also told me that this person will have to go through some "sensitivity" training. I will definitely recommend American Tire. Very helpful. Found an issue that three other mechanics had previously been unable to diagnose and had it fixed in minutes. Also Tom was extremely helpful in finding a part for my car that even the dealer told me would be difficult to find, and having it painted and installed at a very reasonable price. Friendly, fast and doesn't try to upsell everything like many mechanics I've dealt with in the past. Would definitely recommend. read more

FIVE HOUR wait for an oil change and tire rotation??? My oil light came on last night (Friday) and I had to be in Flemington for training the following morning (Saturday). I know places can be busy on Saturdays, so I called American Tire and spoke with Mike. I asked if I could bring it in for an oil change and a tire rotation- he said yes, but it would be a while. "A while" to me I thought would be 2-3 hours. I got in there at noon and my car wasn't even starting to be serviced until almost 4:30! I had no way to go home, and had to wait in the shop the whole time. I told Brian when I came in at noon in that I bought my tires at American Tire in Green Brook (they are the only ones in this area that carry PAX tires for my car), and I get a free rotation for them. I also showed Brian on my phone the $15 coupon for an oil change- I presumed he wrote this down. I sat and watched customers who came in after me waited upon (without appointments- one was for a tire repair) come and go. While waiting there, I witnessed many things. A foreign couple came in and comments were made while they were outside filling out paperwork because American Tire does Motor Vehicle paperwork, and someone behind the desk said how dumb they were for buying the used car they had bought because it had scratches on the bumper. I felt like telling him off by telling him that people buy cars for transportation, not necessarily for looks. After THREE and a HALF hours, I asked Brian when would my car be serviced? He then asked me what did I come in for? I repeated that it was for an oil change and tire rotation. Brian told me my car would be next in, but that was a lie. I watched THREE other cars go into the bays after his statement, as well as seeing a waitress come in for which I thought was to pick up a car, only to find her car being worked on while I was still waiting for mine to be seen. I changed my seat in the waiting area and witnessed the mechanics take the sleeve with my work to be done in a pile with other ones, and pick up others underneath instead- even though mine was on top. I think Brian saw that and spoke to one of the mechanics to have him put one of the other cars out back and work on mine instead. I watched my car on the lift and noted that they were teaching one of the mechanics how to do an oil change as well as how to rotate tires. I was taught by my dad that you use the "X" system, where the driver's front tire goes to the passenger rear, and the same with the passenger front to the rear. I noticed that they just took off the front and put them on the back on the same side- not making an "X." The finale came when I went to pay after they finished their work. I was quoted $66 by Kenny. I told him no- my tire rotation is free- he stated it wasn't in the system, and there wasn't any mention in the bill from Brian and I told him I bought them in Green Brook. He then took that amount off for the rotation. He then quote $44 and I told him I had a coupon that I showed Brian, Kenny stated he took $10 off but he would then put in another $5, the coupon was $15. I was so angry I didn't say anything else. NO apology for the wait from ANYONE, NOTHING. This is NOT how you do business. My son worked for a tire company in Ohio like American Tire. If there was a waiting customer who is getting something simple done, such as an oil change and tire rotation, (whether it was me or anyone else), they did the work right away because you want happy customers. NO ONE should be waiting 5 HOURS for that to be done! We have been regular customers in the past at Flemington, but no longer! read more

This place is amazing! I've been coming here for a couple of years now. And I'm originally not from the area. But my boyfriend lived near here. We would make a date and both get our cars serviced. We moved out of the area. I went to a place near where I'm from. They wanted to charge 50 for. Single oil change. Took my keys back. And drove an hour to American tire and auto! They were busy but still were able to fit me in on the spot. There customer service is impeccable. Time after time. They are so nice. They apply what ever coupon they have out. Automatically. Would highly recommend to anyone! How silly of me to even think of going anywhere different! read more

My sister went there for an oil change. They were more interested in telling her she needed a new exhaust system and did not put oil in the car. She noticed a few days later and the engine could have seized. They said oh, the next oil change in on us. Seems like they overlook the "details" when they have a car in for service. Do not take your car here they work on commission and are not honest. I was a long time customer (10+ years) until now. Brought Toyota SUV in with 68K mi for routine oil change and mentioned vibration when braking downhill (they did both my front and rear brakes at 48K and 43K respectively). Tech calls me reports a frozen front caliper tells me I need to replace both front calipers AND rotors AND pad AND back brakes are at 1mm so need to replace them too (again, had them done at 43k so only 25k mil ago). Total cost ~ $1100. I picked car up and took to local independent mechanic. Independent mechanic reports that back brakes are at 4-5mm, front pads 7-8, no frozen caliper (did heat test and no uneven wear on front pads eithers). Rotors they installed are warped. American Tire should have replaced their rotors and pads out of good faith, but since they are 90 days out of warranty won't and trying to blame a phantom frozen caliper. SHAME ON AMERICAN TIRE FLEMINGTON FOR YOUR DISHONESTY. Will never go there ever again. read more

I unfortunately have to update my glowing review of this business due to a recent service issue... I had asked them to "winterize" a classic car I own, as we just moved to NJ from the sunny south and we are too busy to do it ourselves.. I had it clear that I wanted all fluids checked at drop off for the service. So 3 weeks later, the car has sat in our driveway after the service, we went to start it up to move it into a storage garage: doesn't start, no big deal, with older cars we hopped out to take a look under the hood figuring it needed a jump. What we found was oil EVERYWHERE, the oil cap missing and three quarts low in the engine. I IMMEDIATELY called American Tire to inform them of the situation, expecting them to justify their oversight of NOT replacing the oil cap... What I received was THE RUN AROUND... "Well our records show you only paid for a radiator flush, we didn't charge you for an oil change, did you try to jump it?"... Crickets... So if you read above, I made it extremely clear at the drop off that I wanted all fluids checked/car looked over. And yes, you did check my oil, then proceeded to leave my oil cap off or replace it improperly causing it to blow off (if that's even possible, as we found it sitting in a secure place on the engine)! No offer to bring the car down to take a look, no accountability, complete blow off.... The silver lining, the oil that sprayed all over under my hood due to their negligence, happened to ruin the starter, making the car unable to start, so I did not drive it low on oil and cease the engine... I hired a different mechanic to change out the oil covered starter, fill up the oil, and expect American Tire to be grateful to pay the bill for the starter vs having to foot the bill to rebuild my engine... read more

I've come here a couple of times now. I've only ever had tire work or an alignment done here. We knew my wife's car needed a new tire and an alignment so I suggested driving a few extra miles down to this place. They seem to be relatively straight shooters (i.e. don't recommend any services or products that you don't truly need) and, most importantly, they seem to do pretty good work. Their prices are also reasonable - a dealership quoted us at $150 for an alignment and I knew this place did it for much cheaper so we turned that down. The typical alignment is $85 and they even knocked $10 off because we were purchasing some tires, as well. I'll return - they've given me no reason not to. I feel comfortable here and I think that's important when having any work done on your car. There are many places that give you an uneasy feeling and this is not one of those places. read more

I would absolutely NOT recommend American Tire and Auto to anyone I know. After having been a customer there for 10 years I received very poor brake service. I complained to the BBB AND American Tire and Auto of Flemington chose to simply ignore the complaint. I will now write to the executive office of AT&A to give a higher up the opportunity to correct the issue before I go to court. I had my front brakes replaced there THREE TIMES WITHIN LESS THAN A YEAR and ended up having a complete front brake job at another shop just a few months later. After the second replacement AT&A denied that the problem was the front brakes so I wasted a lot of time going to two other shops to get estimates which both supported my claim that it was again their problem. Finally AT&A agreed to correct their POOR SERVICE A THIRD TIME. I gave up finally and went to another service provider the fourth time within a year and paid in full for a front brake job! So in total I paid about $900.00 for a front end brake job. I might ad that there was absolutely NO Apology for my trouble whatsoever and I've been a regular customer there for a long time. I just had my power steering replaced and fuel pump within the last three years in addition to oil changes. CLEARLY AMERICAN TIRE AND AUTO DOES NOT WANT MY BUSINESS. DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER SERVICE PROVIDERS IN THE AREA WHO WILL GIVE QUALITY SERVICE THE FIRST TIME AND STAND BEHIND THEIR WORK! I'm now a very satisfied customer over at Boni just down the street. I recommend you go there instead! ADDENDUM: The reply to my complaint that follows this post from AT&A reported that all of my service was covered under warranty - A LIE. Everything was great at first. On-line helped me save $50 on the tires. Scheduled my step-daughter to come in on Friday to have the tires installed. I paid for them upfront. Then, it went downhill fast. She arrived on Friday morning to have the tires installed. They probably saw that they had a young female driver come in and saw dollar signs. She said they can perform a wheel alignment but never agreed to perform the actual service. They performed the service without her knowledge and charged her $100 which she really did not have the money. I will never use this company again. read more

As a woman, I often feel taken advantage of when I go into a car service shop. While I know plenty about bicycles, not so much about cars. The staff at American Tire & Auto always make me feel comfortable and informed about the work that is needed, or is not needed. I find that they do try to create work, but instead explain all of the options for maintenance and repair. ***WARNING*** DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE!!! My family has been bringing our cars here since we moved into the area 15+ years ago the have cost my mom over $1000 in mess ups and now they got me too! go in with one problem, leave with another! I needed a new thermostat and they replaced that with what is assume is excellence, how would I know other than it works now. But where it stated to hit the fan was they told me I need new rotors for $130something, no thanks. Next call oil dip stick tube is cracked and your car wont hold vacuum its $130 to replace, go figure! I dont want to be stuck on 78 so go ahead fix it. During the Past 3 weeks I have been in there 4 times because my check engine light is on with a evap code and my engine surges at idle (thats odd since that issue was supposed to be avoided with my $130 dip stick tube) All said an done I was told it was the thottle boddy (totally different code), purge vavle (didnt fix the issue), MAF sensor (they need to remove key parts where the MAF is to fix the thermostat is). they cracked my engine cover and "forget" to put hoses back. Last but not least I was told to take my business elsewhere by the manager Kenny. Thanks for the suggestion but I wasnt ever coming back. They refunded my money for the purge valve, since it didn't solve any of my issues and told me they would get a replacement cover for free in efforts to get rid of me. They literally saved me hundreds of dollars. I had a recall that needed to be done but prior to that ended up getting towed to American Tire and Auto. I needed the car to be taken to a toyota dealership to get the official recall done. When I was going to send my car to the dealership the local dealership Fred Beans in Flemington were not only rude, brash and unhelpful they were going to charge me for my recall. While at American Tire and Auto they not only helped me with my problem when I freaking out, they suggested I take my car to another dealership. This other dealership was awesome and charged me nothing for my recall. American Tire and Auto in Flemington are genuine, helpful and unlike EVERY other car repair place, they are not trying to swindle you at every turn. read more

They are so thorough, polite, carry or can get parts a dealer wouldn't, in fact, American Tire in Flemington, NJ takes much better car of my vehicle than the dealership ever did. I purchased my vehicle new in 2000. It's now 2011. I only have 51,300. miles on it, however, it still needs all the same services, tires etc. I was a 'dealer only' person after I got burned by a couple of well recommended independent service stations. It doesn't get any better than this! My change oil light came on last night. So this morning I walked into American Tire and Auto in Flemington a little after 7 am with a coupon for a 19.99 oil change and tire rotation. I was only there for less than an hour and my total bill at the end was only $24.56 including tax. I have other relatives in the area who have been coming here for years and we have never have a bad experience. Occasionally, we have had to have major repairs done there. Took our daughters 9 year old Jeep Liberty to different shop for an estimate for some work. It seemed really high. We went to American Tire for a second opinion. They were total honest, did not try to do work that did not need to be done and the bill was about half of that the first estimate . My family and I have been going there for years and we've never really had any problems. A little over a month ago I brought my car in for several problems. They diagnosed the problems and then fixed them. About a week later I come back in for the same problem and they diagnose many more problems that were not mentioned on the previous trip in. again, they fix it and I drive my car away. The next day I came back for the third time with the same problem. They explained that it was the throttle body and wanted nearly $500 dollars to put a new stock item on the car. I knew I could do the same and buy a new throttle body for under $200. After doing so it fixed several problems but created even more. Right before I left for vacation I brought the car to the garage to get fixed again. Forth time for the same problem. They then attempted to charge me for spark plugs that they replaced on the second visit. When going to pick it up I said that I wanted to test drive the car before paying for it to ensure that the problem is actually fixed. After being told no, I spoke with the manager who proceeded to glare at me and the gave me the key. I said "thank you, I'll be back in a few minutes." I test drive the car, all seems to be fixed. Upon returning, I say "looks like forth times the charm". The manager looked at me, and begin yelling saying "How dare I come in and rudely disrespect and question my judgement." He went on to yell some more and say false information about my previous visits. After paying, he prints out the receipt, crinkles it up and hands it to me. I say "thank you very much, Have a nice day." He opens the door to the garage bays, and before it is closed screams "F*cking Kids!" We have been going to them for years, and have put over 7 cars through that shop in our time. Needless to say we will not be going back to them. Today I start my car and the same problem arises. Over $2100 to fix one problem and they still couldn't do it. If i could get them zero stars I would, but I have to settle for one. Save yourself the time and money, Don't go here. read more
