Today I had my first ever contacts class with a lovely woman named Erica. She was kind, patient, and an excellent teacher. I was able to put in and take out contacts with ease because of her help. I left the building in less than hour being able to see without glasses for the first time in 25 years. If you'd ever like to try contacts, I highly recommend checking this store specifically. America's Best does not support Michigan Public School Teachers. Similar to Leah W., American's Best, located in Jackson, Michigan wasted my time and money, by waiting until after my exam to tell me they would not accept Blue Cross Blue Shield MESSA insurance. Based on 2023 insurance data, over 89% of public school teachers in Michigan currently have MESSA. I took a half a day of summer school off, which is paid by the hour, to attend the appointment, which equates to $45.00 an hour at 3 hours to equal a total of $135.00 that I lost, not including the out of pocket expense they charged me for the exam which came to $210.00. Very upset with how my experience was. Called 2 and a half weeks ahead for an appointment, gave all my insurance information over the phone and still brought my insurance card so they can obtain a copy of it. After my exam, they finally told me my insurance wasn't going to cover and everything was out of pocket. I would have never come to your facility if I would have known that and which is why I gave my benefit information over the phone at the time of the visit. Staff was friendly by any means, but no one could do anything for me because they waited till AFTER my exam to tell me it was all out of pocket. So thanks America's best for a $89 visit that came with NO glasses and NO contacts. read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. It was the worst experience of my glasses experience which is almost 20 years. They couldn't get my prescription right. I had to make 3 appointments for them to STILL get it wrong. It has taken me 3 months to get glasses and I ended up just going somewhere else. Save your sanity and DO NOT go here. read more

They are OK, Dr. Parsons is a good Doc, but the office staff is more Salespeople than concerned about your eyes AND getting the best prices -- their Contact Prices are excessive all the time (go online), as for glasses, the lowest prices are reasonable and OK but again, GO online for best prices as they still take weeks to get them (many places make them instore now). Great For Jackson, Parsons is a good UM Grad. Eye Doc. Get the Three Year Club, get your exam, BUT BUY YOUR STUFF, Contacts or Glasses, ELSEWHERE for the best prices. They will NOT tell you this (and get a copy of the Prescription in hand on paper before you leave). read more

the staff were fantastic - professional and caring. the doctor recommended prism glasses, which i had never heard of, but are already helping my lazy-eye double-vision. wonderful experience. PLUS! glasses were 1/2 the cost that last year's glasses cost at SVS vision. highly recommended. read more

I went here on a Saturday afternoon and I really didn't have to wait for service. By the time I found the glasses I wanted, an associate was ready to take care of me. The associate, Mataya, is a gem! I was hesitant about coming here after reading negative reviews of some other locations, but after my recent experience, I suspect some people just have unrealistic expectations of what they should be able to get for $65. I called on a Saturday morning to see if I could make an appointment for that day, because the nosepiece on my old (and virtually indestructible) glasses had finally snapped off, and it was getting uncomfortable. The person I spoke to said she could squeeze me in that afternoon, but warned that there might be a wait. I asked how long, and she said 45 minutes. Some places, you'd walk in the door just expecting that! I arrived 20 minutes before my appointment time, got in to see the technician right around when I was scheduled for, and was completely done by an hour after I arrived -- 40 minutes after my appointment. Very good, especially for having been warned I might have to wait. I got two pairs of glasses for just over $100. I was a little nervous about this, because I'm hard on glasses ... on any given night, I'm as likely to fall asleep wearing them as not. (I ordered a pair of cheapo glasses online once, and not only did they not fit, they were bent out of shape within 24 hours.) But this was a few months ago and I still haven't had any problems. At the lower prices, you don't get any of the options that you would want if you were buying glasses to last a long time -- scratch-resistant lenses, etc. -- but the two pairs I got should last me at least a year, and considering that the exam was included with the price of the glasses, that's a good deal. The "twofer" pricing is also a nice way to try out different styles without committing a whole bunch of money to a new look. My main caveat is that while this turned out to be a good place to get glasses, optometry is also health care, and in the long run I'm not going to give up going to see the optometrist I've seen for the past 10 years. That would be like deciding to give up your primary care physician because you can get free advice from the people who work in the over-the-counter pharmacy section at CVS. Not to knock the optometrists' qualifications, but given how quickly you're in and out, and how many people an America's Best optometrist must see in any given day, and (from what I've read) the high turnover, you should not expect coming here to take the place of an independent optometrist who gets to know you over the years. But sometimes you just need a good pair of glasses that are cheap, durable and easy to get, and for that, this store is just fine. read more
