These days it is tough to find a high quality martial arts school, but after much research I assure…read moreyou this the school to join. Sensei Eric's students are instilled with the traditional values of karate. His students have won numerous national championships and also won at the USA Open in Las Vegas. (by the way, everyone should check it out) The dojo is not about handing out belts, it is about hard work, quality karate techniques, earning every belt with sweat. I have known Sensei Eric's teaching for nearly 20 years and he clearly demonstrates this in his schools. Come and watch a class and you will see and feel the difference. This is a great place for all kids, teens, adults (and parents). Join together and make it a family activity.

The dojo emphasizes true sportsmanship and values community; Sensei Eric is a great mentor and teacher to his students. The karate talents and character that his students possess demonstrate his effectiveness at karate teaching and character development. Having many years of experience in Shotokan karate, I recognize that his students have great potential as karate athletes. I travel 4 hours roundtrip, from New Haven, CT to Massdojo to attend trainings. I highly recommend Massdojo if you want to become a highly skilled karate practitioner and athlete, while also building confidence and character.

We decided to try mixed martial arts to help our child develop self discipline, perseverance, defend himself, and also learn hard work and dedication . A lot of kids in today's society expect things to be handed to them. We wanted our child to know the joy of hard work paying off and earning your success. The growth we have seen in him from only a couple months is amazing. Instead of him saying "I can't" constantly when something is hard, he tries- and most of the time succeeds. If he does not succeed he has learned to practice and try again. His confidence has grown tremendously, he has learned it is not always about winning , but rather learning and growing. If you're on the fence of what to do for extracurriculars for your child- this is it. This is a family run school- which gives it that extremely close knit feel. We love Master Cooper, Master Mike, and Master Red! They made us feel like part of the team immediately and you can tell they have a passion for what they do.Come join the team and watch your child thrive.

I am a student of Tosoku Martial Arts; it's difficult to imagine how one could "review" a dojo or…read moremartial arts school accurately without having invested time and effort into learning and training within it. That said, I have been a student of Aikido for more than a decade throughout New England and New York, and my consideration of Mark (-sensei) and of Tosoku is within the context that training, much of which was under a number of incredible teachers. Roughly 4 years ago, I stepped away Aikido to explore other martial styles -- western boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Sanda/Sanshou (Chinese Kickboxing). After moving to Stow, I decided to drop in on Mark's classes in response to a sign in the window of the local Karate school. Cross-training left me skeptical about some of the elements of Aikido, and I was not certain that I wanted to pick it back up full time. That was nearly 2 years ago, and I've gone to almost every class since. One of the things that is difficult to convey to a potential student of a martial arts school is whether or not the art as practiced is authentic. Mark is the "real thing": he is a direct student of one of the founder's students, trained for a number of years in Japan, and holds an advanced black belt. What is unique about Tosoku, however, is Mark's willingness to make space for Aikido to grow based on the changes that modern MMA-style training has introduced to martial arts in general. That said, this is also very much a friendly, relaxed, beginner-friendly atmosphere: there is no posturing, no ego, and safety is paramount both on and off the mat. Currently run out of the Stow Karate space, Tosoku represents the best of both traditional and evolutionary Aikido, and is a rare find in central MA.
