Hampton Inn Roxboro - Guest room

    Hampton Inn Roxboro

"Less of our family stayed at the Hampton Inn in Roxboro June 27-29 because of the exorbitant rate…read more We were first quoted a $234 rate, reduced to $209, then lowered to $199. That's plus taxes. Family members got rates at Hampton & Hilton Springhill in Durham for $139 & $159, and in South Boston for $137 and $152. When we entered our room, and we have pics, the toilet had a gray streak around the water line and the mirror was smeared. The big surprise came Saturday night when we returned to our room, which had not been touched by housekeeping; the tiny trash cans were overflowing, vrhe beds were unmade, and used towels decorated the floor and tub where we'd left them in our hurried, early morning departure. No new towels were brought in. I had to go get some. Imagine my surprise when I went to the front desk, where upon my query, I was told that rooms are only cleaned every third day! Imagine that for $200 a night or any price. We were never informed about that and had never had that to happen all the years we stayed there. And even though we are Hilton Honors, there was a big notice taped to the front desk that said in bold, underlined type, "Absolutely no late checkouts! This hotel is certainly not up to Hampton Inn standards and you can forget Hilton. The staff that's there is pleasant and seem to be diligent, but they aren't the franchisee. Maybe the owners should consider turning it into an indigent housing facility. Because it's already on the way. We got a BS answer from the hotel on the hotel site that said sorry we experienced less than stellar service but offered no actual resolution, FYI. In other words, if you have a problem at Hampton Inn Roxboro, they will do nothing about it.

First time in many years that I stayed here…read more Since my last stay in 2010, Innkeeper is no longer a chain hotel and the Roxboro location is the only one remaining in business. The positives were that the room was clean, no noise, comfortable bed, wifi worked well, as did the HVAC. However there was a problem with the television. When I could not get the set to turn on with the remote, I called the front desk and was told that I had to turn it on via a button on the side of the set. While that did turn on the set, I was unable to get a channel to come on (getting a no signal message). Called the front desk again, and was told I had to hit another button to switch the tv to HDMI 1 or 2. That did turn on a station, but then I could not change channels at all. Third call to the front desk brought an employee to the room, who couldn't make the channels change either. She said she would try to get me another remote - and that was the last I heard from her. The next morning upon checkout, I mentioned the trouble with the tv and requested an adjustment to the bill, which they did with no argument. ($10 off) They also did it with no apology for the inability to watch tv or for the inconvenience. That leads me to assume that this must be a reoccurring problem. While waiting for them to do the adjustment to my bill, I noticed a "hotel rules" page that I guess is supposed to be read and signed by guests. It included lots of common sense things (you must wear clothes when outside your room) and other warnings about no guests and no parties. Seems like the Innkeeper caters to the non business, non family travelers now. Doubt that I will return.

The centerpiece of the house's interior is a rotunda supported by four Corinthian columns and lit by a stained glass window located on the roof. Walking into the foyer you cant help but embrace the timeless grace, where every corner whispers of history and a bygone era. There is a quiet serenity to the space, as if time slows just a little bit inside. The modern touch added to the old renovated mansion does come with a bit of a sharp, sterile elegance of a modern mansion. The Parlor is a great place to enjoy a delicious craft cocktail and even better, ADULTS ONLY! There are also many other lovely seating arrangements throughout the property, including outdoors, and a few even come with fire pits. Regardless of your intentions for visiting the Heights House, I am quite confident there will be no disappointments, unless they have a private event. Cheers!

The first thing to say about this is that you will be massively impressed at every turn with the…read morejob they have done in restoration, renovation, and design. Everything is lovely and though it is all modern and sleek, it still feels fitting for the original era of the house. The cocktail area takes up most of the main floor, with a stand-up bar just off the entryway with a few tables and then a larger lounging area with sofas and chairs just beyond. The drinks are exceptionally good, and the spirits menu is creative. They also offer a few small plates. There is plenty of paved parking immediately next to the hotel for guests only, so that is not a hassle as it can be at some B&B/inn-type establishments. At check-in, you are offered a complimentary glass of sparkling wine to set the tone. The rooms are comfortable, but I will say that the entry-level ones are quite small (which is apparent on the website), but for the rates charged there isn't even a place to sit and read a book other than the bed. There's one small, delicate wicker chair that would be for tying shoes or whatever, but not lounging. The bed is luxuriously dressed, and there is drawer space and a minifridge, but no closet -- hanging items can go on hooks by the door out in the open. The bathroom is spacious enough, with a broad sink and elegant tilework. The lighting fixtures throughout are nifty. I found the breakfast sort of average for this type of place. I came later on, so perhaps there is more earlier, but there were a few pastries, some hard-boiled eggs, and fruit when I arrived. There's also a fancy coffee-drink contraption, but those aren't my thing so I left that alone. It's a very easy walk across the Boylan Bridge and down a couple of blocks to the area of the Dillon with several restaurants, and the performing arts center is not far beyond that. Location-wise, there's plenty that's walkable but also more an easy drive away.

Cute in a has a jar of (delicious) cookies at the check in desk at all times. Besides being so cute it's located perfectly right in UNCs campus and just blocks from Franklin street. We had a car since we were making our way thru North Carolina and needed to drive to Duke a few times, but if you're visiting UNC you could probably get away without a car. The room itself was cute (of course) and clean. My only dislikes was that the tv didn't have Netflix so my daughter and I couldn't watch a movie together, but my phone sufficed. The walls were also a little thin and we had some noisy neighbors. We enjoyed the brunch buffet before checking out on Sunday and it was delicious. Id I was bag in the triangle area I'd definitely stay here again!

The hotel is now a Hyatt property and the renovations added modern touches to the sleeping rooms and lobby and restaurant. We parked overnight and the valet and front desk and all the staff are extremely friendly and hospitable. The standard rooms come with showers so I paid an upgrade for a bathtub. The rooms come equipped with a mini fridge, robes, a lovely Nespresso machine, and very comfortable bed. We had a delicious dinner at Crossroads and also a fantastic brunch buffet on Sunday morning. The hotel is known as a wedding venue so it is a great place to host rehearsal dinners and weddings and have the guests stay overnight. It is the university hotel and has the Carolina charm and history and is a great place to stay for alumni, weddings, or other local events. You are within walking distance of the campus and right by Franklin street. Thank you for making our staycation so fabulous!
