Food Truck Mafia is organized by the grillstar food truck people. they organize food truck events in various cities in conjuction with city governments. their slogan is "do you roll with the mob?" locales: -pleasonton -union city -fremont -newark -various private events, schools each event doesn't have rigid specific vendor attendance. some come from the south bay, some from s.f. some are native to contra costa. not every vendor goes to all venues. the busiest and most diverse gathering is at union city (vietnamese, filipino, hamburgers, thai, mexican, ice cream & cupcakes), fading fast is newark, pleasonton has shorter lines and good offerings, some otg gird trucks come here(lunch time, not sure about evenings) the 2011 season is about over. for future info, check the facebook acounts of "grillstars" and "food truck mafia" read more

They're a small group of food trucks in the East Bay. I ended up wandering over a local high school in my 'hood to see who was going to be there. There were several familiar names and some I hadn't heard before. Five Ten Burger were here with basically no line. There were a few others as well. I didn't see any dessert trucks which was a bit of a shame but I ended up taking my friends over to the local drive thru dairy instead. I ended up trying Roderick's BBQ based out of Oakland. The pulled pork sandwich was good although, I would like more sauce on it. It came with a side of potato salad or a choice of chips or some other items. Roderick was running his truck so we chatted for a bit. He's a super friendly guy. I'm all about supporting a local business so check his truck out if you see him around town. Went to the Stoneridge Mall "Stoneridge Street Eats" location (behind Sears) for their lunch stop 11-2. I got there early (1130) as a recommendation to beat the rest of the lunch crowd. They had these trucks: TruckinSweet, GrillazGoneWild, twistertruck, SavourieStreets, YummiBBQ and KindersTruck. I ordered the tri-tip hoagie from SavourieStreets and it was okay, I didn't get a chance to try any of the other trucks today, but I'd definitely go in the future. My friend ordered the beef tacos from YummiBBQ and she really liked them. The only con was limited seating so some people brought their own chairs or ate in their car (like we did). read more

These folks host the Friday night Fremont Street Eats at Mission ROC and added some desperately needed new food options at the Fremont Festival of the Arts. Featured trucks include Sanguchon, the Peruvian favorite, That's Sweet Desserts, Forbitten City, Pizza Pimps, and several others. They are big on composting and recycling(woohoo!), play some great music, and even have activities for the kids at their Friday night event. read more

1st impression..sad. There were only 5 trucks, no music, & situated in a dark back area of the babies-r-us parking lot of Union Landing. I suppose b/c it's winter they don't anticipate a large crowd so less trucks participate...but it was boring. My faves: - Twister - offered these deliciously fatty fried cone-shaped tortillas filled with shredded meat, beans, cheese, lettuce, etc. (SO GOOD). - That's Sweet - You HAVE to try their maple bacon cupcake & peanut butter cup cupcakes. They are splendid. Plus, the male owner/order taker is freakin adorable. I'll definitely keep track of this meet up and will go again when more trucks participate. I love this concept! I found this by accident at New Park Mall in Newark, and I've been coming to their events ever since. Always a great variety of food trucks and each truck has great customer service. I'm partial to the That's Sweet! Dessert Truck with all their delicious cupcakes and mini pies. One time I wanted a maple bacon cupcake and they had ran out, but instead of suggesting that I order something else, the owner whipped me up two of them for the price of one! Ever since, I've just been smitten with how they care about their customers and keeping them. I always have to buy some extra cupcakes to bring home. read more

The Food Truck Mafia event I went to was by accident right by Wal mart. I believe it was about 10 trucks and I tasted a few of them. They had seating arrangements in the middle of the food truck circle, they had trash and recycle bins around, and again, they had a good choice to choose from from asian to american and even dessert trucks. I went with Grillstars this time because they had pulled bbq pork nachos... holy moly was that good. read more

I'm a huge food truck fan so its a welcome to have a steady food truck event in the southern part of the east bay. I feel like the food trucks that belong to the food truck mafia aren't the best, they are more of the local ones that don't have the most creative options like off the grid in different parts of the bay. They do rotate weekly so it's a hit or miss. It is a nice way to spend friday night in the neighborhood. Parking is easy and they have some tables/chairs set up. Bring your own if you can though. read more

Been here a few times since I work around the corner. Trucks thing is great on Fridays when they're here. If you show up at noon, it's a wait to get your food. some trucks are fast. But, from my exp. food waiting around is not for me. I get 1hr lunch and show up just before 1pm instead of noon, and it's still a long as wait. What I have ordered is good and bad. you just have to distinguish how much and grease and cholesterol you that day..... Overall the wait is bad. no actual organization. and what you get at some of these trucks is not worth a bang for your buck. read more

This truck was in our parking lot in Pleasanton today. Went down for lunch. Ordered a chicken sandwich. When we started eTing the sandwich ($9) we realized that it was 95 percent grilled onions...not 2 tablespoons of chicken ....when we went back we were told sorry that's the portion size...what a rip off!!!!! The great thing about the food truck mafia is that it gets people outside again. There's lots of tables, decent music and a variety of trucks and items to choose from. Like all those A&W/KFC combo restaurants but good food rather than rest stop fuel. I really like the graphics, each truck has it's own theme. It looks like a carnival! Things get a bit pricey by 1 or 2$ but it goes to the schools so you can't really feel too bad about it. Fremont doesn't have many cool things to do. The Art and Wine festival has crappy flat bottle art crafts, they sell cel phone cases at the antique fair, and there's just a sea of apartment buildings with nothing to do so I'm glad FTM exists, adding cool culture to a city of bleh. read more

If you want to hire food trucks for your event, don't hire this group. I hired them over a month ago for a community garden event, hundreds of people, featured in the Tri-City Voice, and they cancelled both trucks 3 days before the event. 1 truck "couldn't find employees" and the other one had "engine problems". April Bibbins said "we will try to find replacements. Didn't hear anything. The next day, I hear the very truck is at Fremont Eats. I went down there and spoke to April who was not happy to see me saying "we barely made it here", "we have a mechanic coming out tomorrow" we will let you know...never heard from them again... I have learned a lot about food trucks the last 3 days. There is a code, if they can't make it, they are supposed to find a replacement. I called over 30 food trucks. They were all booked (suggested 30 day advance notice) or they didn't have a permit to work in Fremont. Several of them suggested in the future to use Off The Grid SF (offthegridsf.com) they are professional and if they can't make it, they will find a replacement immediately. I had to scramble to come up with food for our event at the last minute. It was very disappointing. Next event, I am calling Off the Grid -- I suggest you do the same. I also heard from two other people at our event that the FTM also bailed on them at a school event. You have been warned. read more

Went to the Fremont location off of Stevenson on a warm Friday night. Even at 8:30pm there was a good crowd and a few lines. There were about 7 trucks with a variety of cuisines - tacos, kinders, thai, sushi, burgers, filipino, and desserts. Atmosphere was festive with even kids mob dancing to "Gangnam Style." They make it a very family and pet- friendly environment with being smoke free. Unfortunately, they kick everyone out at 9pm sharp so it somewhat killed the mood. Other than that, great place to go for a Friday night. Most trucks now accept cards and they also have lots of parking. read more

We recently tried to work with Food Truck Mafia. Our experience was HORRIBLE. We were trying to organize an event with trucks and they were unresponsive and rude. We were so frustrated that we ended up contacting the food trucks directly and they happily returned our calls and agreed to work with us. At the end of the day, we saved a great deal of money dealing directly with the trucks...we should have taken this approach from the beginning. Food Truck Mafia is useless... read more

These guys were a no-show at the 2nd Fremont After School Band (ABS) Orientation night. Since they didn't make enough money the first night, they decided not to show up the second night. This is terrible way to treat your customers! If you say you are going to show up, you need to show up! There was a crowd of very hungry parents and kids that arrived early to get food before orientation. I don't know how many people showed up Tuesday night but this gym is packed right now with very hangry people. You guys missed out on a huge opportunity and your ruined any goodwill with a whole lot of people! read more
