I have been here for almost 1 year and it's been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've tried other dojo's but never felt the full support until I joined Amerikick's Muay Thai. As a full time college student, school and internship has left me unmotivated to work out but Amerikick's curriculum, dojo and Sensei have made working out exciting and enjoyable. Classes here are taught by experienced and motivating Sensei's. As a female, I have been so afraid of sparring others, but week by week, both Sensei Adonis and Nikolay have not just pushed me out of my comfort zone but built my confidence. The class structure never gets boring and has a great flow; each day and week focuses on different things (bag week, sparring week, etc.). The dojo here is extremely clean and everyone adheres to the COVID policies. The staffs cleans and sanitizes the dojo after every class. They offer great availability for their Muay Thai classes (both afternoon and evening) and signing up for classes has been seamless through their digital app. It's been nothing but a great experience here and everyone with different skill levels is truly invited here. I love trying new ways to get fit and opted to buy a Groupon deal from Kickboxing Fit America/USA (whatever) that turned into an unforgettable experience. It's going to get a little confusing here so read my review slowly to catch all of the details. Kickboxing Fit America/USA was offering 5 or 10 classes up to 89% off. I jumped at the offer, then selected the only Brooklyn location listed (Sunset Park). Incorrect neighborhood! As much as I tried calling the numbers listed, I could not get a live person. Based on the recording, I was only instructed to wear comfortable clothes and advised not to wear street sneakers for hygiene purposes. In order to go on the mat, I had to be prepared to either wear sneakers used exclusively at the facility, socks or go barefoot. When I arrived, I thought I was lost because I could not find the name of the business printed on the Groupon. In the vicinity were iLoveKickboxing.com - Park Slope and Amerikick. Soon as I walked into the latter, I was greeted by Cherylann who was so warm and friendly. She gave me an overview and cleared up the misinformation that I had received. 1) Kickboxing Fit America/USA is the umbrella name for the individual schools. 2) The weekly schedule posted on the general said that this location had its adult class at 7pm, but it was actually 8pm. 3) There was no mention of the name of the school or contact information, just an address. I guess I should have googled it. So I was invited to stick around for an hour for my class, which starts at 8pm and watched the youngsters spar and practice their techniques. I loved the diversity of the student population, camaraderie, sense of community, and supportive learning environment. The seated area for parents was a major plus. I was even considering enrolling my 2.5-year-old if all went well. With the start time fast approaching, I changed my clothes then went back to the front/reception desk for additional instructions to complete my check-in/enrollment process. My one-on-one encounter with Sensei Phoebe started off a bit rocky and was a major turnoff. She was unaware of my experience with the misinformation, lightly scolded me for having a seat and not coming forward earlier (huh?), and not bringing gloves for class. *pause* I definitely did my best to be prepared, but the actual number for this business was nowhere to be found and without a name, how was I supposed to connect the dots let alone know what to bring for the first day of class? After my brief explanation, the tension eased. I completed my attendance card and walked onto the mat. As a first-timer, there were no training wheels. I had to jump right in. Sensei Alex was great. He, along with Cherylann, kept an eye on me to see how I was keeping up with the one-hour class. It was a great session that left me gasping for air and water (lol), heart racing, energized, and drenched in sweat. Since this was Muay Thai Kickboxing and not regular cardio/fitness kickboxing (which was what I sought), I opted not to continue especially given the price and my tight budget. At this point in my life, I just can't make that commitment (60 days of unlimited classes for $99 includes uniform and gloves then $199 a month for 2 classes per week). Aside from the cost, I would have to commute about an hour to and from home. I am grateful that despite my initial nerves, I survived the intensity of the class (after being physically inactive for over a year) and walked away feeling welcomed. read more

I love the Amerikick karate program so far. The Sensais are very talented and involved, the whole staff all around is amazing. The classes are awesome and my son loves it. He gets such a great workout both virtually & in person. Every week there are character building challenges, extra classes like movie night, karaoke & break dancing. They even offer classes to us parents! So happy with Amerikick & def would recommend to any parent looking to get their child involved, grow their confidence & exercise & safely socialize during these tough times. Saw an ad on FB and decided that it was time to stop making excuses. Made my appointment which was super easy and the next day I was in speaking w/Alex. Upon entry I was greeted by the very sweet/nice front person ( for lack for f a better title). Very bubbly attitude and just overall a great person. I was then directed to Alex who basically cut to the chase and told me in less than 15 mins what the program was about. I appreciate his candor and information. I signed up and committed tot eh six week program and did my first class on Saturday and can I tell u...YOU WILL SWEAT! What a work out! I felt great leaving but my body the next day was like...WTH were you thinking?! I was sore in places I didn't think would have been affected. A few years ago my son wanted a Star Wars themed birthday party. I googled around and found a karate school in our neighborhood that had Jedi parties. The party was amazing and incredibly affordable. They let us bring in food for the grown-ups who had space to mill around while the Senseis entertained the kids. I was impressed by the place and kept it in mind. Now my son does karate lessons there and is obsessed with it. He's super excited to impress the Sensei and he is extra motivated to help out at home and tell them about it. He is asthmatic and that has not stopped him as a matter of fact, regular exercise appears to have improved his condition. Amerikick has the BEST Senseis and Instructors. It's my sons and my home away from home. Amerikick teaches both my son and I discipline, confidence, humility and overall health and well being. My son attends karate, sparring, and acrobatics up to 5 days a week. He had the best 6th birthday there as well. It was Power Rangers themed and the Senseis dressed up as Power Rangers and Megazord! I attend kickboxing classes on the weekends with Sensei Ricky and Ms. Carrie. They are both exceptionally motivating and humbling. They challenge you to do your best and more. They guide you through an amazing health & fitness regimen combing kickboxing, toning, cardio, stretching, meditation and healthy diet. 4.5 stars I used to pass by Amerikick, intrigued about the ladies only kickboxing. With my upcoming nuptials, I thought to myself, "I'll probably want to punch a bag a couple of days a week... Lemme check this place out." Little did I know what I signed myself up for. I'm pretty convinced that Miss Ada and Sensei Alex knew my secret immediately - that I wasn't born with toned arms and strong abs... And that if I wanted it, I was going to have to work for it. So, as nice as I tried to be to Miss Ada and as much as I laughed loudly and hardly as I could at Sensei Alex's jokes, none of that helped in making the class any easier. But I must give it to these two - they really know how to push you to be your best, and they are very encouraging along the way. And it's nice that they encourage you to yell back at them to keep up the energy of the class - can't say I can do that in my 9 to 5 job! So if I love Amerikick so much, why only 4.5 stars? Why don't I just marry it? Minus 0.1 stars for the following: - making us start the class with those dreaded V-ups. That's just cold hearted, bro - slowly counting down when we're doing plank or any ab exercise. Woman, what did I do to offend the kickboxing gods?! I promise to stop IMMEDIATELY - working us to the bone and then finding out that we still have 5 minutes of class left. You better be glad that clock is mounted high on the wall because I would've grabbed it and smashed it on the floor in rage if it was within my reach - loving us so much and wanting us all to be beach ready so you make the workout super crazy, almost reducing me to tears, but then reminding me of the thought of said beach bod - working us so hard that I almost cursed that one time in 1984 where my parents thought having a child would be a great idea and thus leading to that fateful moment I was conceived Aaaand.... I think that's it. If you sign up for ladies kickboxing, you won't be sorry. (wait, I take it back... Maybe for that one hour in your day, you will.) But the benefits outweigh the cost! Never tell a screaming toddler that he's gonna learn how to kick someone's butt. Because if you choose to take him to Amerikick, where the Senseis are gentle and patient, and instruct clearly, he may come home on a mission to kick yours. He cried at first, but they've won him over since, and after the summer special--an amazingly affordable deal that lasted a month, which included a free uniform, unlimited classes for his age group, and an initial membership fee waiver--ended, I was happy and proud that my little man had begun his journey to spiritual awakening and his path to building a strong mind-body connection, even if he uses his moves on me. Since we've joined, I've seen his confidence increase, as well as, his manners. He listens to directions more and really tries to do the right thing. It could be a natural development at his age, but I've noticed that his conscience has definitely grown along with his ability to make an angry face on demand. Even if it all started with the not so purest intentions of kicking someone's butt, with Amerikick's positive environment and guidance (and mama cheering him on as always), he's on his way to black belt greatness. read more

I joined Amerikick specifically for their Ladies Only Kickboxing. I was so pleased to see the diversity of women there- all ages, sizes, colors, and it was easy to understand why. The instructors are warm, knowlegable and push the entire class to do the best they can with attention to proper form. The atmosphere is completely unintimidating and the instructors always let you know how your progress is coming along. Sensei Alex has shown me tremendous generosity with his time and I would recommend his studio to any woman not so into the gym scene. There's something to be said for a setting free of judgement where you can focus on improving yourself. After every work out you'll be pleased with the improvements and excited to do it all again the next day. And don't forget to stretch after class! :) read more

I signed my son up to join Amerikick initially as a way to get him to exercise and learn to defend himself. Along the way he is learning to focus more and there is a huge improvement in his discipline.  The instructors genuinely care. There is a feeling of comradeship and family in this environment. This review is specific to the women's fitness kickboxing classes. Overall message of this long review if you don't want to read my extensive details is this: Don't be intimidated to give this class a try. It is so fun, a great workout and a good deal. You will meet great people and get really strong! Just try it and you won't regret it. I started this class through a groupon. Prior to joining, I had yet to join a gym because they were expensive with contracts or too crowded etc. Also, I've always been the kind of person who goes running or a workout DVD, not a GROUP workout kind of person. Honestly I get self conscious. After my 4 groupon classes trying out each instructor, I was hooked. Miss Ada who sits at the front desk (and teaches on Thursdays) knew me by name. The girls who had been going for years were welcoming and encouraging. Let me break my review down by category. ATMOSPHERE I was so at ease to look around and see women of all shapes, sizes, age and skill level. I was afraid I would be surrounded by only elite athletes and I would stick out, but the class is for everyone who will come. We were all there for the same reason - to have an exciting and great workout! It's so fun to hit the punching bag and helps get stress out after work. There are specials frequently in which you can bring a friend or try a different class too. INSTRUCTORS The instructors are amazing. Each has their own style so you can go to all classes or pick the days that the instructor method works for you. They are encouraging and put you at ease. They offer modifications for people with injury or not yet strong enough to do certain moves. And they change up the routines! I've been going 3 months and never know what exactly to expect. There's nothing worse than doing the SAME routine every day. This is not the case at amerikick. They also offer fitness challenges that allow you to work towards specific goals. WORKOUTS Each class involves a warm up, stretching, ab-work, bag-work and other exercises. So there's a great mix of exercise (picture any Rocky film when he's prepping for a fight). Sometimes there's jump ropes, or medicine balls, resistance bands etc. Always variety so it never gets boring. EXTRAs I tried this out for fun and because I felt like I should be working out more. Since I started 3 months ago, I have gotten so much stronger, lost weight and gained some serious confidence. It's a fantastic stress buster. There are constantly specials for joining so I don't know the current cost. But I suggest trying a groupon or living social or just give them a call and see what offers are going on. I couldn't be more happy with everyone who teaches here. The senseis take the time to learn the kids names and shake hands with parents. It is a clean, calm, and welcoming environment that my son wants to hang out in all the time, even outside his classes. They have a lot of workshops for adults and kids which I absolutely love. And once a month they have a parents' night out where the kids stay and play games and do karate and watch a movie and the parents can go do as they wish for 3 hours. My 5 year old (sorry, as he says 5 AND A HALF year old) son has been taking classes at Amerikick since he was a little over three years old. This is the first summer he was old enough to attend summer camp there, too. I was excited about the low cost of the camp but importantly, that I knew the summer camp staff who would be with my child five days per week. I know my son is in good hands with Sensei Jose, Sensei Adonis, Tristan and the other Senseis working there. Of course, I know that if there's any issues, Ms. Ada, the Program Director, is there to quickly handle and correct the concerns, too. Two days per week the kids go to a local playground to play in the sprinklers, and they also, go on a weekly trip to a fun location. A little jealous I don't get to go, too! Luckily, Tristan is amazing at making sure he posts pictures and videos for the parents to view in our member group on Facebook, so we get to see how much fun our kids had on the trips. My son loves all the different games they play, and he still gets to have a karate class during the day, too. Very helpful if we cannot make it back later in the day for the regularly scheduled classes. My only complaint is my son never wants to leave Amerikick now, haha! read more

My son attends Amerikick in Brooklyn. Between the intense pace of the classes and the use of music during routines, it's very different from the karate school I attended 30 years ago, but the approach really works to motivate the kids and keep things moving. The instructors are all friendly and upbeat and know how to talk to kids, inspiring them to do better without feeling the need to dominate.
