This is my opinion on what I believe is the "catch," they guarantee their low price because they get you a forbearance on your loan. Federal gov't says you can only get a forbearance for 12 months. For me I would have paid Ameritech $99 a month and only $20 toward the loan. Meanwhile interest continues to accrue on your loan for 10 years. Your original loan that the gov't will forgive will balloon while you are with them assuming that they were able to keep you in forbearance for 10 years. The banks are going to want their money which after 10 years will be much more than the original amount. Would you let a debt like that go unpaid? Would a bank in the USA that foreclosed on people and left families in the street not go after you? Think about it. They tell you that you must renegotiate every 12 months. Once the 12 months are up your payments go back up to what they were and you will have to pay Ameritech $99 a month. Unfortunately, at the end of that time they will have gotten what they wanted from you, the one time payment of $1200 or so dollars, and $99 a month. Enough to pay for the building use, lawyers and interns they got working. That is why you can cancel at any time. That is how they make their money. By the way if you are very strapped for cash you can get a forebearance for free. Call the department of education. Federal gov't says no place that requires an upfront payment to help you is legit. They have that warning on their website. Call the department of education and let them help you they will do what these people do for free. read more

I will leave my original review even though I no longer support it. I was pumped about Ameritech at first...but evidently it was too good to be true. My automatically monthly payment that's been coming out since October has NOT ONCE been applied the base of my loan. I have no idea where the $210/ month I'm paying is going to. I found my real student loan is in forebarrence & this October my payment to the actual base of the loan will be at back to $400/ month, (In addition to whatever Ameritech thinks I'm paying them). I'm currently awaiting a call back in order to get this bogus service canceled (I will know if this is even possible within 24 hours). My advice, do NOT trust this company. Do NOT make the mistake I made. & DEFINITELY DO NOT provide your bank info. It's embarrassing to read my first review now, but I'd you need a good laugh, have at it: I thought this would be a nightmare once I committed to consolidating my student loans. It's not. The Ameritech customer service people are awesome & the few I have dealt with have been very well trained. I referred my friends, but I worry they might miss the opportunity to do this because they fear its a pain in the ass. I did not have a tough time at all doing this. I've been using this company for two years and they have always been prompt, upfront, professional and caring. I guess I got lucky in finding the one student loan consolidation company that wasn't a scam and shady. Recently had an issue/inquiry into a discrepancy in my payments. Agent Danielle Crane was courteous, caring and went above to help me understand the issue and also walked me through the steps involved to solve it. This company is not a true "scam", however, what they do is they reel you in by telling you that you are qualified for Obama's Debt Forgiveness program, and that you can enter an income-driven plan that will lower your payment to be more in tune with your current financial situation. This part sounds like a message from a savior to someone who is currently stressing about finances and making their loan payments--that's the hook. They then tell you that if you make 5 payments of $168, after that you will qualify for $20/month--hearing this is music to anyone's ears, so you agree. What they DON'T tell you is where those initial payments go, so more often than not, one would assume they would be applied to the loan since nothing else was mentioned about it--it is only until after the fact that you find out this is their fee for doing paperwork that your own loan provider or the government will do for FREE. I am guilty of not doing my due diligence, and in turn threw away $800. I am writing this review so this happens to no one else. Don't let them reel you in and DON'T trust the website that they send you to to show you how great AmeriTech Financial is (the site is clearly written by an employee of the company and not a financial reviewer). I have called every day for the last 2 weeks trying to get an agent or someone in customer service yet every time I call it take me to leave a voice mail. I have left voice mail after voice mail and not once has someone called me back nor responded to my emails. This is not a way you treat people who pay you every month for you to do paperwork once a year. I look forward to canceling my contract with you. And I would hope I get the money returned to me that they took out of my account in the last 2 weeks when I've been calling to try and get some answers. I have had my school loan under Ameritech Financial for just about 1 year and am very satisfied with their services. The initial paperwork to get started is quite extensive and took a few hours to go through with back and forth phone calls, email and faxes, but it is only because of of the detail of their business. All of the representatives I have dealt with have been helpful for the most part but a few of them need training on how to be patient with you while you gather your necessary documentation to prevent having to call back multiple times to clarify specifics before it is sent. I particularly liked Leah in the Rohnert Park, CA office because she took her time with me and clarified the last part of my income repayment plan. She was even patient with me as I had to address my 4 year old son who was insisting that I acknowledge his pre nap time needs as we were on the phone! After hanging up with one rep, I luckily realized that I cannot put my loan on deferment because it would mess up my whole plan, she was able to give me step by step instructions on what I needed. This whole process is confusing and very detailed, so I am glad they are to help with questiins. Thank you Leah for making this process a little less crazy! read more

I called to speak with a rep after starting the process. I was never called back i then wanted to cancel and they told me to think about it before cancelling. I was told in this call my loan was in the consolidation process even though I had not submitted ALL paperwork that was required to ameritech. During this call they said they would folloe up if i did wanna cancel and i never answered because i did want to cancel. When i went to sign into navient my loan provider I see my username had been changed not by me, when speaking with ameritech they have my new username which i did not change. do not use this program they didnt call me back until threatening to cancel and they eithee changed my username and did not tell me OR allowed someone who wasnt me give them this new username. read more

I am beyond blessed to have received a letter which I wasn't waiting for. I worked with one of the employees name Jason Young. He provided me with all the information I needed to know, explained to me how much I would be paying currently with my student debt loans and then explained to me how much I will be paying with Ameritech. Such a difference from 467 monthly, I will now be paying 128 monthly, saving me loads of money. I am beyond grateful. read more

This is a doc prep company that charges far too much to provide a service that is free if you call your servicer. Don't fall for this and first call your servicer. Ameritech has done a good job managing their image on-line, but they are still a doc-prep company offering a service that will cost you perhaps $1,200. And there so called experts are not experts and may point you in a direction that is not in your best interest. Trust your instinct... this just is not worth giving your credit card number over to a company participating in such a shady business. They may think they are the good guys in the doc prep business, but they are still a doc prep business and that is not a compliment. Good luck. read more

scam!!! you end up paying more than $1,000 and all they do is completing forms you can do yourself. Filing these forms is free.

I work for a true student loan servicer who services loans for the Department of Education, and I can tell everyone, without a doubt, that this is not a legitimate service. Your loans are eligible for all of the options they offer you for a charge, except through the DoE it's all free. You never should pay to have forms completed, as the DoE can only accept applications completed and signed by the customer, not by a third party. However, this company and many others get customers login information for both the servicer's website, and the studentloans.gov website, so that they can log in and submit payments on the customers' behalf. You should NEVER give login information to anyone, even a DoE employee, as no one else should be logging into your accounts. The $99 payments this company charges do not go to your loans, either, as they are simply payments to this company for them to complete your paperwork for you, illegally, too, I might add. The forgiveness options are there, but they typically take 10 years if you work in the public sector, and 20-25 years if you do not and are in an income driven repayment (IDR) for that entire time. DO NOT FALL VICTIM TO THESE SCAMS! Again, I work for a legitimate loan servicer, and if you call your own loan servicer asking for assistance in completing applications, we will guide you through the application, but not complete the form for you, since you have to do so.
