I took my laptop there a few weeks ago (got a bit busy and forgot to review earlier, opps), and what I liked the most was that they were honest about what was wrong, what could be done (and for how much), and (most importantly) if it was really worth it or not. Also, money-wise, I was definitely satisfied. To clarify: my laptop stopped charging the battery (even after I got a brand new battery, straight from the company, to replace it). So I started using it less. Then it started refusing to shut down, and I definitely had to take it in (more on that later). I knew it was an internal problem and was hoping they could fix it (I didn't want to replace the entire laptop because of all the programs I have on it; transferring them would be a pain). They looked at it and told me it was a motherboard problem (like dang of course, probably the most expensive replacement from what I've researched) but they also told me "look, even if we replace it, which is expensive, it's not a guarantee that it'll last. It won't be 'like new', it'll be 'an older laptop with a replacement motherboard'." They encouraged me to use it without the battery (since it still worked fine without it) and they would look at what was causing it not want to shut down (which is really what concerned me in the first place, having to do a hard shut down every time I used it scared me). (They also tried to see if they could fix the battery with, I forget what they said - I was at work when they called and a bit distracted - and it did fix it temporarily, but not permanently. I'm happy they still tried an alternative method though. That has my appreciation.) They cleared up what was causing the hard shut downs - a software issue, it wasn't updated and I guess trying to. Because of that I now go into my settings and manually check for updates (and check again even when it says there aren't because half the time an update Will suddenly load like "here I am, you had to find me"). And it's working as well as it can, for how old it is (which isn't super old, like 5 years or so) with so many heavy animation programs on it. I think I will start saving for a new one, though, and (since they said they believe they could help me transfer my programs if I still have the download files), I'll go to them for help. And before I forget: pricing was definitely good. I saved up so much money because of horror stories I've heard about Geek Squad being so much money just for a consultation (not sure how true it is, just what I heard), but the bill wasn't as much as I feared. I can't remember the exact amount because this was a few weeks ago, but it was a little over $100, like I think about $120 or something like that. To me, that's definitely fair, especially since they didn't try to sell me a new motherboard, which helped me save some, really. :) Thanks guys, you were awesome! In the past couple of months, I have used Ames Computers for two laptops which required immediate attention. One repair was a cracked screen to my client's laptop. They were understanding in that I needed a quick turn-around time so my client can get back to work with it. They ordered and replaced the screen in a very timely fashion. Repair price was reasonable as well. They were very pleasant people to work with and don't try to do any hard selling. A month later the hard-drive on my business laptop crashed. I brought my laptop to them and, again, they provided the same high-quality service the last time I was there. They ordered a new hard drive, installed the necessary software, restored the data I had backed up and got me back up and running in 2 days with very little disruption to my business. I cannot say enough about this company. 5 stars is not nearly enough!! They are top notch, professional, friendly, helpful, patient, knowledgeable. Being "computer illiterate" I brought a fried computer and they salvaged all the data onto an external hard drive and then went and restored every bit of data old and new onto a new computer I brought to them like nothing ever happened. I got tricked into letting someone remoting into my computer and was locked out of my computer. They were able to get me back in without losing any data. They told me how to help prevent some of this stuff getting in my computer by browsing in incognito mode.
