Recently had a car financed with this credit union. I have been attempting to pay my first car payment for days with no success. I've never seen anything so difficult in my entire life. The online banking system is trash. It has taken me 2.5 hours over the last 2 days to finally add an external bank account and my payment still hasn't cleared the system. Apple Pay is not an option according to the site. Everything I do seems to receive an error message. Customer service offered the advice of "your due date is a few days away and you have 15 days grace period after the due date without penalty, so just keep trying." I just want to make the payment and move on! read more

My experience has been great up untill a few years ago. I have been with the bank since I was 18 .Now you can't get anyone to answer the phone. Collection department has a older lady that calls every week and doesn't remember the conversation that you have with her. . So here you are having to leave work and have fees accumulate .because your account has been frozen. Because some on a Tuesday and yoy dont get paid until Friday. So you cant even with draw money from your account. All because she thought you said Tuesday insead of Friday. After telling her over and over you get paid biweekly. So why is she calling every week? She doesn't remember talking to you after you ask her do you not remember talking to me a few days ago. I ask her are you not taken notes of the conversation? She says no. I tell you this it doesn't take but one time for a bank to tell me they cant give me my money that I have in my account before I go some where eles. Go ahead and put my review at the bottom. So noone reads it. But i tell you this is have had my kids and friends to use this bank. But nownthingsbare alot different they also will be moveing to another bank. I dont appreciate being treated this way. When I did my part to handle my affairs. This is supposed to be a bank not fast food restaurant. I dont expect huge mistakes from a bank. ​ read more

I closed on my first home in June 2025 and I couldn't have asked for a smoother process. The real estate processor assigned to me was responsive and kind. In addition, she made me feel comfortable to ask any questions I had during the process. Lastly, the rate I was given was competitive. One day I arrived to find a beautiful new building, new drive thru lanes, and multiple ATMs. I love shiny new things, so I'm pretty excited about this. Just like many of the other reviews here I didn't miss a payment for years on my loan until they decided to cancel all the auto payments that were set up. No notice of the missed payment via call, text, mail, or email. I didn't realize this had happened until my credit score dropped over a hundred points. When I called to figure out what was going on they admitted this was an ongoing problem for people so rather than fix the issue with people they'd rather torpedo your credit score for an issue they created. Stay well clear of this Credit Union! If you do happen to do business, make sure you have a lawyer on speed dial. Ive had three cars financed with AmFirst, and I always had to stay on top of them in the past with their jacked up, hyper expensive CPI insurance scam. In the past I was always able to head it off by having my insurance company inform them that I was, in fact, insured and had always been. This time, they didn't even tell me, no notifications no, nothing. Suddenly, my credit score plunges by close to 50 points and I have a "past due" payment on an account I can see clearly Ive paid. They tell me they applied Collateral Protection Insurance to my account, despite having been notified that I have been continuously insured for decades. Now they are asking for more in "Insurance" than my car payment, raising my car payment to over $1500 a month. I will have to deal with the headache of suing them to get this taken care of, or I can kiss almost $20,000 in equity goodbye. Do not do business with this institution, they are patently dishonest and they will stab you in the back the second they think they can get away with it. read more

I have been with AFFCU since the eighties and for banking and finance I have no complaints. the only issue I have and grant it I could have a preference or something set wrong so if I do well egg on my face, but some times when my wife logs in to send a picture deposit for me she has to wait until I receive the code on my phone so her phone is recognized but it is the same phone that she has always used and did I mention I work on the road? I hope the update that we have to endure the 18th at least addressees the issues the customers have. read more

I've been a member of America's First for 25 years and had a very good experience with them all the time up to when I moved to Georgia. 8 Years later I returned and moved all my banking back to them as I never closed my accounts. A lot changed in 8 years and their customer service has really gotten bad. When we returned to AL two of my children decided to remain in GA so we go there often to visit them and our grandson. We have been many times over the past two years with no problems. All of a sudden now SOME of my debit card transactions are being declined but not ALL of them. These are not high dollar transactions, I'm talking $50 at Walmart (DECLINED) or $50 at Kroger Gas (DECLINED), but I can go inside Kroger and buy $50 worth of Groceries (APPROVED) or Chick-fil-A $30 (APPROVED). No rhyme or reason as to what is going to be approved or declined, very embarrassing when you know the money is in the bank and people looking at you like your a criminal. So I called America's first and they say "Oh, if you are leaving the state, you have to call us and tell us where you are going so they won't decline your transactions. So I said, I don't want the fraud alerts, I'll manage it myself, they said NO, we can pause them for 6 months, but after 6 Months you have to call us again and say pause them for another 6 Months. They will NOT allow you to say if I'm trying to use my card in Georgia then that's fine because I go to Georgia a lot. They REFUSE to allow you to manage your fraud alert and exclude states from the fraud alert. They say "It protects you from fraudulent activity" but when I say I don't want to be protected, they say "But it protects US too" LISTEN UP AMERICA'S FIRST. I AM ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR A NEW CREDIT UNION TO MOVE TO. THERE IS A NEW BEAUTIFUL VALLEY CU BRANCH OPENING ON 280, EAST OF THE AFFCU INVERNESS BRANCH THAT I WILL BE LOOKING INTO!!! AFFCU, YOU HAVE LOST YOUR WAY IN TERMS OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. I AM STILL WAITING FOR A CALL BACK ON A MORTGAGE LOAN THAT I APPLIED FOR IN 2017. Stay clear of this bank. The customer service is horrible. The mortgage department is rude and unprofessional.

This is NOT location specific. I just spent over an hour on hold waiting to speak to a LIVE person. Called the number on Amfirst site to be sent to robo woman who gives several numbers which got me to Larissa who sent me to someone who knows "something" about why my Quicken isn't working with Amfirst. THIRTY-SEVEN minutes later Kim tells me she doesn't even know what Quicken is. First thought is why not POST all numbers online instead of having to listen to a recording? I explained to Kim Amfirst is a poor excuse for a bank/credit union. My experience with Amfirst is and has been horrible. Within the next 72 hours I'll close these accounts and go to an institution which is accessible and customer oriented. That is NOT America's First Federal Credit Union. My recommendation: Run! Try Avadian because I guarantee, you don't want to deal with America's First if you're doing anything more than depositing a check once a week. read more
