After answering a number of questions, they simply refused to quote homeowners in our zip code. Very disappointing!

Yesterday I received a copy of my insurance policy, and as I'm sure many of you know , it's a big bundle of paper. They add up and fill up the file cabinet drawer because for some unknown reason you never shred the old copy when you get the new one. Well on the envelope of this behemoth it said " go paperless. " Great idea I said I'm going to the website and do just that. Being your average bear on line I can go on accomplish what I need to and go on with my life. What happened in this case is one of those outwardly simply actions that some how turns into a vicious loop that you can't get out of. Which leads me to end up contacting customer service tech support. Thank goodness for human beings still being there. So I reached John in tech support. John was exceedingly good at his job. He not only saw what hamster wheel I had gotten myself on and solved it , but he also made some other changes that were beneficial for me as well. Amica has often been accused of being over priced. I personally have been with this company since my parents told me get my insurance through them in 1986!!! Their customer service is most certainly their forte!! They may be more expensive but if something happens I never worry that I will have an issue with them , or will not get something covered. Only once in all these years have I dealt with a employee who was less than pleasant. Statistically 1 in 34 years isn't bad. Although she is exceptionally memorable because everyone else is so pleasant at their jobs. So I'm just suggesting that if you want to deal with a company that , if something unfortunate happens to you, you don't have to have anxiety that they won't be there for you. Consider not being penny wise and pound foolish. Look into Amica as an option for the gift of being able to sleep at night. read more

Very disappointing. After receiving a solicitation letter with a special customer code for a Homeowners Insurance quote, I call their number with the special code, and after giving all information requested, including personal info such as birth dates, etc., The representative informs me they do not write insurance in my city. What a waste of time. But I am glad to discover this company is totally incompetent before I purchased a policy from them. Don't send letters promising a special insurance quote offering when you have no intention of providing insurance. What a waste of time. read more

After being a loyal customer for over 20 years, without ever having a claim nor even a speeding ticket, I decided to take a look at my policies under Amica and do some comparison shopping. While Amica has a good reputation for claims paying experience, they are not the only one. In comparing carriers, I found that there are other carriers with great reputations that have GUARANTEED REPLACEMENT COST, and LESS EXPENSIVE POLICIES. In calling Amica to take a second look at my policies, I was promised a return call. After two weeks, and a couple of calls by me, no response whatsoever. While I don't easily break a 20 year relationship with a company, I am disappointed with Amica's lack of response. For a company that prides itself on customer service, I found Amica's response utterly lacking. To me, it seemed just downright uncaring and unresponsive. I have found another carrier and they now have my auto, homeowner and umbrella policies. read more

We have all our insurance with Amica for many years. Recently we were looking at an investment property as an Air BnB. Since Amica insures our full time rental property, in addition to our primary residence, I called them. The customer service agent was lovely. She indicated that Amica generally does not insure Air Bnb's but since we are such great customers for so any years, she would refer this request to her manager to see what can be done. Unfortunately, this is were it all went wrong. A few days later I got a call from the Albany, NY Amica office (we live in NY), a local agent schooled me in that Amica would NEVER (her tone not mine) insure an Air BnB. She acted as if I offended her for even asking, she kept repeating that "Amica is a Conservative company and we would NEVER insure an Air BnB." I told her I was aware of this from the previous agent, but that she was seeing if an exception could be made. This Albany NY agent told me that was an agent from their central "call center and they do NOT know anything." Then insult to injury she started telling me that this would be a huge risk for me personally, and I should put this property in an LLC. I was shocked that an insurance company was giving me legal advice. I politely pointed out that our current full time rental with Amica was in an LLC and we would be doing the same for this property. So, you could think this would be the end of the Air BnB saga, but no. As the deal for the potential Air Bnb property fell apart, I started a conversation with our lawyer about insurance. After discussing with our lawyer and financial advisor, they recommended that we increase our overall umbrella policy. I called Amica to increase our umbrella policy. Again, I got a lovely agent (most likely from the central call center), and she put in the request to increase the umbrella insurance and told me someone would follow up with me. A few days later I got a call from Amica, and the 1st thing the agent started grilling me on was the Air BnB! Again, rudely indicating that Amica would NEVER insure an Air Bnb. I tried to clarify that I appreciated that Amica was a conservative company, and yes I get the benefit of that in pricing, but that this umbrella policy would have nothing to do with an Air Bnb. The agent continued to lecture (I do not use this term lightly) me about the risk of an Air Bnb, etc. Out of frustration, I told the agent to cancel my request to increase my umbrella policy. So, here I sit exposed from an insurance perspective, just because I considered investing in an Air BnB (which is not happening), but I am on some caution list at Amica just because I considered this investment. I have now taken my entire insurance portfolio out to State Farm (who insures Air BnB ironically) and other insurance companies to see if another insurer is able to provide the umbrella policy my lawyer and financial advisor is recommending. Everyone states that Amica customer service is amazing. Until this unfortunately event, I would fully agreed. I also agree that the "central call center" at Amica is very customer focused, it is when you are referred to the local offices or the next level of management were it falls apart. Honestly, I never post negative reviews, but was just so shocked by this whole exchange that I had to share my cautionary tale. read more
