Dr. Saffarian and his staff provide exceptional care. I've gone to several doctors for many different reasons and I have to say that immediately upon meeting Dr. Saffarian I knew I was in good hands. He took the time to answer my questions and phrased them in a way I could understand. He was able to breakdown what was happening, why other possibilities were unlikely and he never made me feel dumb for asking questions or asking for further explanations. He never made me feel uncomfortable which is easy to do when you are dealing with this part of your anatomy, especially if you're a man. The staff was professional, discreet, polite and easy to work with. The facility is beautiful and clean and I'm happy to have him in my corner. Beware!!! Do not trust Dr. Saffarian or his staff! I was referred to him by my Primary Care Physician, and they told me he was "in network" with my secondary insurance, BlueCross/BlueShield. I also went to the BlueCross site and ensured he was in network. I went to see Dr. Saffarian because of urinary blockage due to oversized prostate. On my first visit I provided my Medicare and secondary insurance cards. I asked if everything was alright and was fully covered and was told it's all good. I saw him four times before the Urolift procedure he recommended for me was performed. Each time I was billed for a total of $259.80. I questioned his receptionist on three separate occasions, why was I paying anything; I have dual insurance and don't pay other providers anything. Her answer was it was for my secondary co-payment. My wife witnessed this answer. After the procedure I received a bill for $1,761.63. When I called his office and asked about it, I got a totally different answer. She said, "we often have problems with you guys that are on Medicare with BlueCross as their secondary". She also told me this is my problem and I owe this amount. I told Dr. Saffarian all of this and he said it was basically my problem, and I owe him this money, and he has a very slim margin of profit and if I don't pay the 20%, he will have lost money. I find this very hard to believe as by doing some research he was paid very well for this procedure and probably made eight thousand dollars profit on a procedure that did not work. I called BlueCross and was told they never paid any bills to his office, as he is not in network. I told him I looked it up on their site and it says he is. BlueCross said it is the responsibility of the practice to ensure they are removed from their site. I looked today and under urologist in my area... in network and this is what I found for his practice "Preferred In-network Accepting new patients at this location". I asked Dr. Saffarian for my $259.80 to be refunded, as it was billed under false pretense and did not receive a response. To make matters worse I am seeing a reputable urologist that said I am not a good candidate for this procedure, and it is still almost fully blocked with no visible evidence of the Urolift procedure. The other problem I had with him was he suspected prostate cancer because of my PSA numbers and did a biopsy. I was very nervous about the results and had to wait nine days before he could schedule an office visit to provide the negative results. He got the biopsy results in two days!!! He had to schedule a costly office visit of no more than five minutes where a phone call from his staff as soon as he received negative results would have been the proper protocol. He did not address Him owing My money but emphasized my obligation to pay him and he turned this into a collection agency. Good Luck on that! read more

This place is very very disorganized. I called to make an appointment and they were almost 2 months out with appointments. I'm a veteran so the VA was sending me here and the VA said that they verified with this place that they do bladder installations that's why we jumped through months of hoops for me to be sent here. They don't return phone calls. When the VA called me asking why I haven't made an appointment I told them the dates and times that I left messages for this place and never got a call back. So the VA called them and the office finally called me back after me leaving three messages over a Three week timeframe. I told him I didn't wanna waste anyones time and asked if they do bladder installations and the girl was clueless on what I was talking about. She thought I was talking about Botox I said no it is not Botox it's where they put a mixture in your bladder with a catheter and told her what the mixture consisted of. She still didn't know what I was talking about so she asked another nurse and they do not do the installations. I'm not surprised that they don't have good reviews at all. They need to get people in the office then know what the heck they're doing or what they're talking about not people that are clueless. Also before I asked if they do installations I said I need to be seen on a weekly basis and she told me that that most likely won't be possible because he's busy and sometimes even if I have an appointment I'll be waiting an hour or more for my appointment time because sometimes he's called in to the hospital for an emergency. This is so unprofessional. I definitely would not recommend this place it's not professional for people to have an appointment and they have to sit there for half a day waiting for the doctor to come back. So first off the doctor here is professional, however, unconcerned with me as a patient. I mentioned urinary issues at night and was told "it might be just in your head." Imagine going to a doctor and being told, you're just making it up. You would think, a doctor would try to understand, evaluate, and figure out what is causing an issue rather than "well the quick 5 minute eval I gave you didn't show anything glaring, so maybe it might be in your head." However, I was determined to continue seeing the doctor (which I should not have). About a month later, I did not receive any confirmation that there was an upcoming appointment, and I did not click or answer the front staff that I was able to make it. So instead, they charge me $25 for missing the appointment. You might think "hey, a first time no show, and they didn't respond confirming they could make it, maybe cut them a break." Not this doctor. Read all the other negative reviews of this guy, they all say the same thing. That he tells people "don't worry about it" or "this is normal" or "it might be psychological." I'm not sure about everyone else, but having a doctor interaction where you're told that something affecting your health is a nothingburger is extremely disheartening. After this review I will see about contacting the California Medical Board about a complaint, because after finding out I am not alone, I would like to help someone else avoid this hurt. Do yourself a favor... avoid this guy. There are PLENTY more doctors that are concerned with patient health than this guy. read more

Visited Dr Saffarian twice this past summer (2020); 1st was for Vasectomy consultation, 2nd for the procedure. Both times the Dr & his staff were professional. Dr Saffarian thoroughly explained the procedure & answered all my questions on 1st visit. The vasectomy took less than ~20 mins, was successful, & I drove myself home after. My care here was canceled by this office due to billing and issues with my insurance. I was instructed to complain to heathnet about the lack of payment, which I did. According to health net this office did not submit the claims in time and due to the late claim submission, health net declined payment. This has ZERO to do with me and I'm completely frustrated. My opinion the billing dept here did not follow guidelines by health net thus terminating my treatment. What is going on? What a stupid problem to have... Seriously, get your billing dept together and stop turning patients away. I can find another place to spend my money, strongly do not recommend this place! read more

Dr. Saffarian treated me for bladder cancer and performed surgery to remove it. He continued to do quarterly and then biannual checks. He is professional and straightforward in his treatment and I have seen his staff work with patients with kindness and care. I fully believe that SCIPPA has interfered with our insurance claims. I can no longer get patient care from Dr. Saffarian because of the problem with their billing of Blue Shield. But, I highly recommend his patient treatment and effective care. read more

I have been seeing this doctor for more than a year. Today, I arrived early for my scheduled 11:45 appointment. The front desk greeted me, took my insurance card, had me fill out the usual forms and asked me to be seated in the waiting room. There was one other person ahead of me who was called in. And then I was alone. I waited, waited and waited. You know why? They closed the office from 12-1 for lunch and left me in the waiting room by myself! No notice. No scan of the waiting room. When they returned from lunch, they looked shocked. Doctor apologized, blamed it on their new portal, but then tried to smooth things over with an offer of a gift card. How about you cover my missed hours of work, lunch and being late to another appointment? I understand that doctors run behind and mistakes happen but leaving a patient unattended while your whole staff goes to lunch is unacceptable. read more

I arrived to this office, as I do with all appointments, 20 minutes before the scheduled visit. After waiting 25 minutes past my appointment time, I was finally called in by Dr. Saffarian. I expressed to him how much pain I was in due to the six kidney stones lingering in my body (I have already passed two this year, so I already know what's in store for me), but he was more concerned about taking my picture with his phone to update his computer system. After his updating spree, he seemed to focus in on what I was saying, finally. I repeated my ailments again, in serious pain, and asked what can we do about this? What is going on with me? He ignored my question and asked if I had blood work done. To which I responded, I just had it done through my primary doctor who ordered to have a CT scan done (hence how I know I have SIX kidney stones lingering in my body). At this point, he went back to his computer and started typing like a mad man and rapidly turned to me with a piece of paper, which he signed off on and said to get an Xray done and I'll see you next week. He told me to hold on, then walked out and disappeared without another word. Then I walked out to the front desk and the Administrative Assistants were just as confused as I was, to the point where they sent me to the wrong place with the wrong referral information. In summary, I spent 20 minutes in this doctor's office and another wasted hour running around to misguided laboratory referrals, in pain and got no relief, no peace of mind, no options or even an understanding of what to do. I am giving two stars and those stars are to office decor. It was a nice office. It was clean and organized. I will attribute this to the fact that the doctor is more concerned about his technology and aesthetics than to his patients. read more

I had an Interstim that I didnt know needed a good reprogramming. So far so good! He gave a good explanation of further treatment(better then original doctor.) Greedy Front Staff And Incompetent Physician.  I have had a lingering infection with severe pain for over 5 months.  Amir Saffarian refused to physically evaluate me, offered no medication/treatment, failed to do any form of testing, and ranted about a book for most of the 10 minute consultation.  Physician completed ignored my issues and said it was psychological. I discovered from an ultrasound that I have a serious infection with a blood clot along with a mass that needs further evaluation. I am sick of arrogant physicians that have no care and knowledge of their field.  They take their consultation fees from insurance companies, and deny any form of care.  Where is the accountability and regulation? These types of physicians should have their licenses immediately revoked. read more

Dr. Saffarian has good bedside manner and his office staff is friendly. I was not proscribed any pain medication for the after effects of a vasectomy he performed. Given the amount of discomfort I experienced I certainly think it was warranted. However that is not why I write this review. 10 days after the procedure I began exhibiting symptoms of infection at the surgical wound site. It took 4 calls into his office before I received a response that that was to tell me that seepage was normal. That might be an acceptable response if they had some description of the problem. They had none other than I was reporting "signs of infection". To be summarily dismissed, on top of not being responsive to patient calls is inexcusable. Negligence like that could cause severe harm to a patient. read more

I haven't done a review recently, but I was just going to make another appointment to see Dr. Saffarian and noticed all the negative reviews here. I have been seeing him for several years, and he is always thorough, attentive, and polite. His office staff ultimately has very little to do with his skills as a doctor, so people need to stop posting reviews about them or his office decor, or the fact that they, themselves, are just bitter for one way or another. The best reviews are objective, and stick to the facts at hand, so here it goes... I've been a paraplegic for almost 30 years, and urological issues are the #1 killer of guys in my situation. Not once have I visited Dr. Saffarian and not gone away feeling like I had resolved whatever it was that was concerning me at the time. Anyone that complains about having to wait 20 minutes to see a doctor has clearly not been part of the medical system for very long. That's a 100% typical wait time. I've had to wait more than an hour at other offices -- now THAT is an excessive wait. TLDR; He's a good doctor, fairly accessible for appointments, and you could do FAR worse than to see him versus another urologist. read more

I went to see him because of a problem that was affecting my personal life, and during the whole consultation I felt that he was giving me the best care that I could get anywhere else. He understood that my quality of life was suffering because of my problem and he was determined to come up with a plan that would help to fix the issue. He was able to quickly identify what the cause was and prescribed me the right medication that has since corrected the problem for me completely. For about 2 years I have been a patient with this doctor. I found his services to be very good but his staff as cold and poor. Recently, a conflict arose over a billing the basis of which was not clearly communicated to me by his staff. It demonstrated to me that the office staff lacked professional training. as well the doctor expressed to me that he was concerned about people ripping him off or scamming the health system. Now bear in mind I had never had a prior billing problem; I had previously offered to take the doctor golfing for free to an expensive Carmel course in my Ferrari, and had booked periodic visit to clearly support his local practice as he and I had personally discussed. Therefore as a longtime local resident with a high credit score I found that the combination of his staff's poor attitude and communications skills coupled with the doctor's own monetary concerns, just made me no longer comfortable with using this doctor. I feel that as a patient, I want a health care professional focused on my health not simply on his financial goals; his attitude now would make me question any recommendations he might make as perhaps best for his bottom line than for my actual best health. Although this doctor is local and convenient; I no longer recommend him to my friends. After meeting with him over that billing and expressing my concerns about his staff, I immediately paid him in full and have terminated hat relationship. read more

We had a horrible experience today! First of all, I want to say I missed very important work to go to his office. We made sure that appointment will take about one hour and we had to schedule 3 week earlier. We came to the office at 8:45am. (For 9:00am the actual appointment) Waited 25 minutes and guy why came later than us goes first. We supposed to be fist in the morning, if to believe receptionist and scheduled appointment. I asked how long time we have to wait (I have to go to work and my time is limited), she said about 15 minutes more) OK, We are waiting for another 20 minutes and doctor opens the door and invites another patient, who came AGAIN later than us! WHY those assistants did not tell me about another patient in the front of us???? So, I asked them again: "When doctor is going to see me?" With smile on the face she lied to me: " In About a couple minutes" REALLY??? Couple minutes will take to have an appointment with patient??? I said I cannot wait for another patient, she said: we can reschedule for another time, NO APOLOGIES we did not hear, nothing! Like it is not a big deal, who cares about patients? Right? No we don't want another appointment. They just closed the window right on the front our faces!! SO RUDE!!! So such a waste my time and my husband's time! Doctor, change your stupid and mean assistants or you continue to lose your patients!!
