Taking a trip to Amish country was quite interesting. I lived in Pennsylvania for 3 months a long time ago and never saw any Amish, so this was completely new to me. We stopped at the Welcome Center but they weren't offering any wagon tours on the day we visited. So, we took a look around the shop instead. I bought a spiral wind spinner but nothing else appealed to me, mostly looked like donations. Some things were hand made but overall, it felt like it was more of a Goodwill than anything. It was cluttered and unorganized. My grandma and aunt wanted to use the restrooms on site but said they were extremely dirty and decided to use a local gas station's instead. The Amish are very nice people but there are rules. Don't take photos of them, some believe it takes their souls and others believe it expresses individualism. If you aren't Amish, be prepared to have people staring at you and the kids are not supposed to talk to anyone unless making a sale. Overall, everything was affordable and during our drive around, we purchased some peanut brittle, jams, and jarred veggies. Just bring cash, of course. It would be nice to come back and take a wagon tour but it also feels weird that our modern-day culture sees the Amish as some sort of entertainment. So, I'm very indifferent about this experience. read more

Truly a MUST SEE experience if you have any interest or are intrigued by the Amish people/lifestyle. A horse drawn covered wagon takes you through the Amish settlement in Ethridge, Tennessee. You get to see an actual Amish schoolhouse as well as visit many of the Amish homesteads where many handmade Amish goodies including warm fried pies, jams/jellies, fresh eggs, fresh produce, soaps, candles, furniture, canned goods, baskets and sewn/crocheted items are for sale. You get to interact directly with the Amish people themselves. NO PHOTOGRAPHY allowed of the Amish people themselves - that's simply disrespectful to their culture and religious beliefs! Our wagon tour guide Jimmy Martin was AWESOME to say the least! We were able to ask any/every question we had about the Amish lifestyle - anything from marriage, divorce, sex, clothing, children, education and much much more! He was VERY knowledgeable and informative, not to mention friendly, personable, patient, approachable and professional. Wagon tour duration depends on how long it takes the visitors to shop at each of the homesteads. See Diann and/or Caity Pollock in the reception area, they are wonderful ladies and will get you all set up to go! WE LOVED IT!!! Jimmy was our tour guide and he was absolutely fantastic!!! I would take this tour again in a heartbeat! Jimmy was very knowledgeable and informative and so down to earth and sweet as pie! I wish I could've taken pictures of everything I saw because it was amazing! Seeing the way the amish live was like living in an entirely different world. I was so mesmerized by it all! Beautiful wide open fields and farms and watching the amish outside working and and the babies playing, it was truly an eyeopening and humbling experience. Make sure to ask Jimmy the tour guide lots of questions cause he is very very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions you have about the amish and how they live. If you're new to Nashville Tennessee, this is most definitely 100% a must see! read more

We took a field trip group on this tour, and it was a mixed result. Visiting the Amish was a wonderful experience, and the people that we saw were so friendly and respectful. Their workmanship and skill is unmatched. The real downer of the tour was the tour guide himself that we had. I don't know where they hired him, but considering this was a field trip, it would have been nice if the guide actually knew something about Amish culture instead of making things up. We shouldn't have had to correct half the things he said when the trip was over with our students. For example, he told our group that Amish didn't like having their photos taken because they "were afraid the camera would steal their souls." Are you kidding me? Where did he get this information? The Amish are very conservative and view photography as vanity and graven images. Additionally, we were told that when we arrived at the Amish homes that we weren't to take any photos of them. Completely understandable. But when one of the mothers in our group took a photo of our group on the wagon, long before arriving at the first stop, the guide *screamed* at her. He never said we couldn't take a group photo of US. It would have been nice to have a photo of our group that day. Anyways, if we plan repeat field trips in the future, I don't know that we will use this tour. It was very disappointing. read more

We had a wonderful tour of the Amish community through this business. The tour guide was really respectful to the Amish way of life. It would have been easy to put down or make fun of them, but he spoke neutrally and tried to shine a good light on their unique lifestyle. You also get to stop at some homes and buy homemade Amish items. read more

I and my husband drove to Amish community in TN at the town name Ethridge on Hwy 43 N, TN 38456 we really enjoyed by saw what way of life they preserved and truly respected GOD as the way human should be. They tried very hard to walk opposite way of life like most people do in this world , they didn't use electricity ,tv, computer or vehicles , just ride a horse , that 's so simple .I stoped by the store infront of Hwy 43N name Amish Welcome Center 4001 Hwy 43N Etridge TN 38456 , which sale some Amish handmade like cookies and Amish handmade soap*** which is very nice to buy them because this is the best soap that I ever used in my life *** so help with skin so soft and smell so nice ( I bought gardenia and creamsicle which are really nice and I try to called this store again to buy more soap they sale $1.75 per 1 soap which is not expensive at all .I really hope that they will do ship to me as well ,due I live in GA and can't go that far to TN just to buy soap .I didn't have a chance to buy jelly jam from the Amish house because it is on Sunday and they not sale stuff on that day and they go to church and we saw their church as well but can't enter there because one of the teenager said that they didn't allow visitor to go in there church then we drove off that place to respect their living . And hope that someday we will go visit bigger Amish community in Ohio and Pennsylvania and buy more handmade stuff from them again. p.s. since Amish houses they didn't used credit card then when you go buy stuff from them you need to have CASH on hand only and not buy on Sunday since they didn't sale you on that day either , just reminding you *** read more

Tour is only ten dollars. Take it one time and you will go to some sample Amish farms where you can buy goodies. But my advice is to pick up a map and drive up to the farms themselves. The Amish want your business! Most of them are very friendly and have stands already set up. One farm on Buffalo Road is particularly good; it's the one with all the cars. People come from everywhere: a lot of folks from Alabama and Florida, one person from Alaska even. Buy tomatoes, baked goods, cookies, fried pies, squash, candy, fudge, green beans, pumpkins, cedar chests, chimes, birdhouses, quilts, collapsible baskets, air fresheners, candles, tables, chairs, beds, I can go on and on and on....they can put a roof on for you cheap or make you a gazebo. Ethridge is such a neat place to be! And it is such beautiful country, so peaceful! read more

$10 will get you a ride on a wagon, an informative guide, and about 3 or 4 stops at Amish farms where you can shop and learn. Do it one time but after that, just get in your car and drive on your own. Pick up a free map at the store, buy some stuff there if you like (just assorted thrift shop items and Amish souvenirs), but you really want to go to the farms. Each Amish family posts signs listing what goods they have at the head of their driveways. They want you to drive up and buy from them. Many have nicely organized stands with lots of jars full of jams and jellies and pickled beets and salsa and honey and dozens more varieties. Birdhouses, oven mitts, hats, yo yos, beads, rugs, quilts, cedar chests, rocking chairs, tables, chairs, Got room for a gazebo - you can buy that, too! Hire them to put a roof on your house (got a nice metal roof on ours). We've bought rocking chairs, chimes, pillows, and tons of baked goods. There is one really good farm on Buffalo Rd. You'll know which one it is: the one with all the cars. Go in and buy buckeye candy, lovespell air freshener, candles, leather keyrings, hummingbird cake, chocolate chip cheesecake, white peanut butter cups, pear honey, collapsible baskets, and of course veggies: tomatoes, okra, onions, green beans, on and on and on.
