I tried saying hello when I came in and making eye contact while I was there, but she wasn't having it. Just because I look like (and am) a college student, doesn't mean I don't have money to spend. I witnessed a disconcerting customer service interaction. A woman wanted to return an antique sapphire ring she had bought there a month before because a gemologist had told her it was not a real sapphire when she went to have it sized. The owner said she had been told it was real but rather than focusing on determining the truth of that issue, she was very snippy about the return. She was VERY reluctant to refund the money. When the customer asked quietly for a refund she was angry and sarcastic. I am sure I was not the only one wondering whether the stone was genuine or not. The sad part is that the store has an interesting assortment of antiques and the prices are reasonable. The owner is very knowledgeable about her inventory which makes it fun to shop there. I bought a very large set of sterling silver there and was delighted when the owner offered lay away to make it easier for me to afford. I have made many other smaller purchases there over the years and always found the owner to be polite, knowledgeable and happy to let me just browse or ask questions. Mary Beth operates one of the nicest antique shops in the Sacramento region. Her collection is exquisitely hand picked and rich in texture, history and quality. My personal budget keeps me from buying more from Amorini, but the piece I did purchase I love and covet. And frankly, her prices are very fair. She always has something I would love to take home. Her taste, which mine has evolved to is one to aspire to. I am always greeted in the warmest manner. I rarely write reviews because of time I despise computers. However, when looking for other antique stores in my area I came across negative reviews of Amorini antiques. My husband and I have purchased several items for our home and a number of gifts from Mary Beth. She has been helpful and patient. I have returned several items and she excepted them with good grace. That aside, this is my favorite antique shop in the area. Her things are beautifully cared for and displayed. I always find her to be knowledgeable and helpful. I was honestly surprised by the negative reviews I found for Amorini Antiques. I have had nothing but pleasant shopping experiences there, and the woman who owns the store has always been friendly, helpful, and obliging. It is small and packed to the brim, like most of the antique shops in the 57th Street Mall, and though you may need to do a bit of searching, it has some lovely, fantastic treasures. I've purchased several pieces, mostly smaller trinkets from the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, none of which were outrageously expensive. What I appreciate about Amorini, and why I keep returning, is that the owner is so engaging and knowledgeable--unlike many antique stores I have visited, she is able to provide dates and backgrounds for most of her pieces, rather than the typical, "Um, I don't know. It's...old, I guess." Shopping here, as with any antique store, should be done because you understand and appreciate how priceless and unique these pieces are--not simply that they are pretty (and some of them are positively gorgeous, whether you're in the market for furniture or jewelry or anything in between). Be sure to ask about the hats in the shop--the owner co-authored a book on the history of women's hats of the Twentieth Century. There is, obviously, a constant turn-over, so there is always something new to see--but if it is still there, do check out the absolutely beautiful, nearly-pristine Victorian era black skirt and bodice she has on display. It is nearly all hand-sewn with leg-of-mutton sleeves (like a Gibson Girl of the classic puffed sleeves of Anne of Green Gables) and boning built into the bodice (which the owner measured when I was in the store--for someone with a corseted waist of 18 or 19 inches!). I live in East Sac. Went in to this store today to do some Christmas shopping. Had the absolute misfortune of watching and listen to the owner as she berated a few Chinese gentlemen for their imperfect English telling her employee not to bother speaking with them since they didn't understand the language. Then went further to tell the men who wanted to negotiate a price, "you're not in China". I will never patronize an establishment whose customer service model is so outwardly derogatory and inflammatory. Not in my neighborhood, not in my America. read more

I love this little cove of antique stores on the 57th Street. I have to say that I too purchased something that was not what it was passed off to be. I took it to my jeweler and it was not gold at all like the owner had said. Sorry to hear that other people got the same treatment. I won't be spending any more money there. read more

I live in East Sacramento and love strolling down to Antique Row every now and then for a pleasant way to pass a relaxing, unscheduled (very rare!) afternoon. One of my favorite shops is Amorini Antiques. Mary Beth, the owner, who is most often working during hours, is always helpful, but not pushy. I like that. She doesn't follow me around pestering me with, " can I help you?" or " can I get that out of the case for you?" every five seconds. She gives me space to browse and not crowd in on me. I never feel rushed or pressured into purchasing. Sometimes I pay cash, sometimes I put things on layaway. The shop is always most accomodating. Amorini is always filled with beautiful, good quality items at VERY reasonable prices. I've purchased a number of items from all of the vendors in the collective (Art Nouveau ceiling light fixture, WMF candlabra, 1800's English dovetailed copper pot, English Pewter Pitcher, etc.) and as an avid antiquer many of these treasures are amongst my most favorites. I will most definitely continue going there as long as the doors are open! read more

57th street mall is a fab place, full of good finds and nice people... all that is except for Amorini Antiques! We were looking for a dresser, nothing too big and of course we had a budget of $250 max. everyone along the row and in the mall were VERY helpful... We saw something we liked in this store but it was $400 not in our range. So I said yes it's a lovely piece but not quite in our range, thank you, she then reply with a scoff and a "you should go to Ikea then" to which I replied, wow that was rude. she then started laughing at us... I was fuming and my husband kept saying your being very rude, to which she kept laughing!!! she really put a damper on our shopping trip. We hence will NOT recommend this place STAY away if you want a pleasant experience. I will add that we found a similar piece for $125 later that day. I have always had a great shopping experience in this store and have frequented the owner's various shops over the years. I appreciate that she almost always knows a lot about her pieces, including when they were made, the respective quality and rarity of the pieces, and how negotiable she is on the price. She carries a good variety of things at a diverse price range and you don't have to sift through junk (an increasingly common occurrence with 'antiques and collectibles'). I've never tired of the things I've purchased from her and plan to be a customer for a long time. read more
