I had no idea this park even existed in Lancaster county! So glad to have found it. It is located on a quiet street that is not busy. There is a large parking lot with plenty of space. I loved that there is a separate play area for smaller toddlers, which my daughter loved. I think she will get a lot more enjoyment out of this park when she is a "big kid", though! Amos Herr Park is a 56-acre paradise thanks to a brand new children's play area called the "dream park." I came upon it today while having a meeting in Landisville and was so impressed that I had to bring my boys after school. The itself park was donated to the Township by the late Amos Herr who was a former high school teacher and coach. His ancestors were among the earliest settlers of Landisville. The new "dream park" was almost completely financed and built by the residents of East Hempfield Township. It took them 11-days to construct the playground and it opened last year. This adorable play area includes a zip line! I feel blessed to have such a wonderful park nearby. It's conception was a community effort from the fundraising to the actual construction. It's one of the best parks in Lancaster county for kids. The play area is expansive and has something for all ages. There's even a zip line and swings for handicapped children. With lots of nooks and crannies to explore and things to do and climb on your kids will be entertained for long periods of time. For parents there's plenty of seating to relax and keep a close eye, as well a gazebo and grassy open areas. A port a potty is also on the premises. The police station is located behind the park and it always feels safe. Open dawn to dusk. read more

Stunningly attractive play ground, but only for ages younger than 12. Wahwah...was sad to drive out there and find that out.

This little park is amazing. I'm from Rhode Island and it's honestly probably the best free playground I've ever been to. (the only thing that could make it better would be a water sprayer!) All the individual areas for kids by age is such a great idea, and they loved the sand pit in the middle. Well done to the designers and the park and rec team that helps maintain it! read more

The hours listed on this site are for the municipal building. The park is your usual dawn-dusk kind of thing. From the E. Hempfield Twp site: "The 56-acre Amos Herr Park located off Harrisburg Pike on Nissley Road and also the site of the East Hempfield Township Municipal Building was donated to the Township by the late Mr. Amos Herr. Mr. Herr was a former high school teacher and coach whose ancestors were among the earliest settlers of Landisville. The park features a "dream park" play area, rental pavilion, soccer and baseball fields, tennis court, as well as bocci court, basketball, and volleyball courts." They are in the process of doing a trail around some of the park. The soccer nets are not always "up". They are mostly the younger-kid size and are in the portion of the park near the large "dream park" playground. There is also a smaller playground area near the pavillion/bocce courts. This side of the park also has the baseball and volleyball areas. The tennis courts are smack in the middle of the park, right off Nissley Rd. The dream park was redone and finished last year, from a large wooden structure to a modern plastic/metal structure. The sight-lines aren't the best, and you can't just park it in one place and watch your kid, you WILL need to follow them around if you want to help them and/or see where they are. But, it was overall well thought out and involved ideas from the community.... As well as man-power to build! In the fall, the large trees drop huge "pods" that are a bit annoying but the kids don't care. The 2 sand pits seem like a strange idea, I see that getting gross quickly if not maintained well, and the sand spreads around to other areas because, well, it's sand. Some of the features are already in need of repair so hopefully it will be maintained and checked frequently. I was pleased to see they are modifying that creek-bed water feature, because, let's be honest- that was pretty short sighted to put in a park for kids. Day one I thought, who puts loose rocks in a playground? And not pebbles, all kinds of sizes and some larger than grapefruits. And dozens of them were there, purposely loose. Yep, every time I went I saw kids throwing them. I had to speak to some young kids once because they were throwing them across the fence from the "5-12 yr old" section and into the "2-5 yr old" section. One nearly crossed our paths as my kid was swinging. Last I went, the creek was still dry and it looked like they were being cemented in. Thank you for modifying! Hopefully it wasn't because someone got hit with the rocks. Water fountains at entry point of park. Soft, recycled-style solid ground cover instead of loose mulch. And the "Zipline" is very fun. Bathrooms under the pavillion, as well as near the Dream Park. The women's room at the Dream Park is a bit dark but not as terrible of a bathroom as most public bathrooms. Lots of open grassy spaces. Park is on both sides of Nissley Road. Plenty of parking, 4 different areas to park. One is off Harrisburg Pike near the basketball court, the others are off Nissley Road. read more

We spend time here in the summer season for Soccer Shots and wow--what a park! Playground is pristine, fields are weed-free and expansive, and the open air is just wonderful. Close to I-283 and other major roads, so it's really a great spots. Lots of sports organizations practice here too, so it's a popular place by choice. If I lived in Landisville, I'd spend even more time here (though we're not far as it is). Highly recommended. read more

Absolutely wonderful park with plenty of interesting activities for kids. Everything was designed with an amazing amount of thoughtfulness. The architects of the park outdid themselves. The house where the donors lived has been turned into a museum, of sorts, and it is well maintained and has a really neat garden by its side. Additionally the park is outfitted with a full size soccer field, ready for your team's enjoyment. There is a modern, very clean restroom on the premises. Overall, this is one of the best kids parks I have seen. read more
